    PearOrchardPanther74 got a reaction from KF89 in Brazoswood (44) @ Beaumont United (36) - FINAL
Have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw last night. There's much improvement, but still a ways to go. The offsides penalties were RIDICULOUS. Too many drops from the wr's, and a REALLY bad play call to run the same play from the shadow of your own goal line (a jet sweep) after showing your hand right before on a play called dead by penalty. Some tackling issues and penalties too. BUT.....I saw a team that would not quit and did not complain. They fought hard all the way to the end. That's an improvement all in itself. #5 is a true athlete.  The QB is the truth too. The o-line is pretty good. Need more stars on offense. Defense.....TACKLE DRILLS PLEASE!! I'm pulling for these kids and their coaches. I think they will surprise some folks this season!!

West Brook became the Astros in Games 6 and 7 of the World Series! They completely chocked the game! Hinch should have never pulled Grineke out. If he were to do so, Hinch would have replaced him with Cole in Game 7 but he completely chickened out! No excuse when teams like West Brook and the Astros lose when they were capable of winning the game!

I don’t know this poster, but there a lot of truths above. Certainly there are some other factors, but without the points above, a program will not reach its potential. Imo.

Man I love this point of view. I never really thought of it like that but it makes so much sense, to start at the lower level and that’s where you build the foundation. The kids at North Shore just looked bigger, and it was crazy because I know the kids at Brook work out hard everyday. But the nutrition part makes a lot of sense.

    great take

Soooo.......I haven't posted in a while..lol. But this topic sparks my interest TREMENDOUSLY. I work with people from all over east and s.e. tx. Many of which played for some of these powerhouses. I just had this conversation with a guy who played rb for Westfield back in the mid to late 2000's when they were a dominant team in Houston before Dekaney opened. I asked this VERY SAME question. He said it was their ATTITUDE. They vowed to not lose at home and to not lose to any Houston schools. He also said that that attitude starts on the middle school level and that the hs coaches frequently visited and passed down the playbook to them BEFORE they got to hs.
They were also very committed to lifting weights throughout the offseason. I asked about supplements. He said they didn't take any. I do believe most of the powerhouse teams that can afford it have nutritional coaches on staff and a budget for supplies to give their kids an edge physically. Bigger, faster, and stronger still works. Couple that with a coaching staff that knows what it takes and oh boy....
My assessment: Their kids are bigger, tougher, meaner, more experienced, more determined, more committed, and therefore more confident than ours...... hands down. It's one thing to beat up on undermanned, undersized, and outnumbered ozen and central for all of these years and feel good and satisfied about it. It's a whole 'nother thing to take on the state's best and see where you really stand. It humbles you.
I do believe that wb is on the right track though, but are still quite a ways behind as far as everything it takes to be on that level. Hopefully the experience from last year and this year propels them closer. IMHO...😉

Ozen winning 22-5A is not out of the question. Two games in and a lost to arguably the best team in setx says nothing about how the Panthers will do going forward. Idk to what extent Ozen is better, but I'd bet money that they'll beat all the teams they beat last year in district and atleast two others. So Nederland, PNG, and Central should be on notice.

I hear there's a petition being passed around the Pear Orchard to ban JRidge from using the statement "don't believe me, just watch"! Ozen takes it on the chin every tine he types it. Lol... On a serious note, the Panthers will be just fine.

All this talk about the WB d-line...I think people are sleeping on the Ozen o-line. By FAR they were the most impressive/improved group I witnessed last Friday night. Very pleased with the increase in strength and effort by these Panthers! Ozen with the "upset" by one score...

Just like last week I think Ozen will upset WB also. Memorial is not a bad team I just think the strategy they used back fired. They went to the no huddle offense and tired Ozen defense in 1st half ,tried to do the same in second half but the offense never got a rhythm going and gave ball over on downs.Ozen coaching staff in my opinion coached a good game, they used ball control ,Boyd didn't have to throw with Lil C .and himself moving ball like they did ,Which allowed the defense to rest. I say they use same strategy on WB ,hard to stop them 2 Ozen wins 34-28.

You don't think tha Ozen's 'big nastys' are better than advertised and had a lot to do with Tyler getting good running lanes and Central's Whaley getting 45 yards because Central's o-line isn't that good?

    Ok, my analysis:

Both teams overall looked good to say it was week-1. Im very glad I got there for the 2nd half, thats when the fireworks started (as usual when I hit the stadium). I was impressed with both offenses, Kadon is gonna be a baller this yr, period. Angelle is a beast at WR and our O-line gave Kadon alot of time to throw, big shock of the night was Kadon RUNNING THE BALL! About time Kenny Ray. Ozen offense will give teams fits with that misdirection stuff, Boyd, Lil C and number 7 are good players for them. Number 18 has to catch those easy passes. Really impressed with both sides on offense.

But the defenses: first Memorial. Why in the h*ll are we playing basically a prevent type D (I know it was zone but still) on Ozen last drive? Smh. And our DBs have to get better in coverage. Unimpressed with our D tonight. There was a point in the 4th qtr where we had DBs who didn't know what the coverage was. Cmon man, we are better than that.

Ozen D played good for the lack of depth they have. But that secondary has to wrap up, that last Angelle TD shouldn't have happened.

Some little things to clean up on both sides but I like both teams to get better during the year and make the playoffs. Alot of ppl will blame KH for this loss, I dont. We lost to a better team, ozen wanted it more, they took every punch MHS threw at them and didn't punk out, they swung back. Totally different Ozen team, they might give WB a game next week for awhile IMO. MHS offense when in gear will be a problem for Central, my thing is will our D show up to the party.

And finally: Memorial band, PLEASE do not play the Umbrella Song ever again. Thx.

Not exactly sure of the year. I'm thinking around 2004. But png and Ozen squared off in week 10 at Cardinal Stadium to decidethe final playoff spot. If png won, ned would make the playoffs and ozen was out. If Ozen won, they were in and Central was out. Let's just say the last few seconds of that game still leave a BITTER taste in many folks mouth whenever it's brought up...lol
