  1. You base this on what??? The way they act after they win. Obviously, you've had plenty of time to observe us from the losing side. That makes you a loser and biased. Nighty night.
  2. How good is Coldspring? Only one team, Nederland, has scored 13 on WO-S. LC-M, Royal, BC and Silsbee each scored 7. We've only given up 41 points in 8 games - an average of 5.1 per game. I'm not doubting Coldspring. But the WO-S D has been stiff.
  3. If you don't want to get blown out, you should play better. That's putting it as politely as I can, because once it was obvious that the game was in hand, this became a tune-up for the playoffs. I'm sorry our friendly neighbors had to be the team we were trying to tune up against, but the chips just fell that way.
  4. Well, they were in the state semifinals in football two seasons ago. They went three rounds deep last year. As far as other sports, I believe we were in the state semis for basketball just two years ago. Right? What the heck are y'all talking about?
  5. Playcalling has been an issue since 1999, the year we changed OCs. It's well known among everyone. I'll leave it at that.
  6. With no intention of offending anyone, let me say this: If you don't want a team to score, stop them. If you don't want the score to get out of hand, get better. We can't water down our offensive/defensive performance for three quarters so we don't hurt anyone's feelings because that will kill us when we meet someone who we'll need four solid quarters to beat. If you feel that strongly about the score, snap the ball and take a knee when you think it's "running up the score." I'm sure we'll take the hint and follow suit.
  7. We'll have to work on pass coverage. That long TD from Nederland has come back up over and over, game after game. Receivers are getting open. I'm hopeful it will stop by playoff time.
  8. Venom33, I do believe that WOS is a little better than Silsbee, but to claim that the Stangs had an off night was the reason the game was so close and not the fact that it was Silsbee that the Stangs were playing against, is really getting old. I guess these last 3 years that these two teams have played each other were close because the Mustangs just so happen to have an off night, wow what a coincidence. : No Silsbee just plays us tough, perieod. Thank you td, for that honest and very accurate statement. I have said all along that WOS is the better team, but please don't discredit Silsbee with these statements of the Stangs just having an "off" night. It has everything to do with what Silsbee did on the field, they were the cause of the Mustangs poor play. Did Silsbee play us tougher than even Nederland or anyone else this year? Absolutely. Did they deserve to win just as much as WO-S? Absolutely. Was most of their success their own doing? Absolutely. Did WO-S have an off night? Absolutely. Look - half of the shotgun snaps in the first half were WAY high (high enough that our QB had to jump), which threw anything but a ton of improvised QB runs out. Hypolite had to run, run, run, run because by the time he got a handle on the ball, Garrett was gone and the pressure was closing in. Yes, Silsbee brought that pressure, but the rhythm was totally thrown off. I think it still would have been really close, but the Stangs were not themselves. I don't think any of the other recent games between the two would be characterized as "off" nights for us, though.
  9. I left w/ minutes left and it was 66-7 WO-S. It was 14-0 before our offense touched the ball. BC fumbled the first snap from scrimmage and the Stangs ran it in, then they punted on the ensuing drive and we returned it for a TD.
  10. I honestly don't see how you come up with 28-0. The long pass play you are talking about was at the end of the game to set up what could have been the game winning field goal. We know what happened there. Silsbee scored on a 15 yard crossing pattern in the 2nd qtr. that the reciever ran in the last 15 yards or so. No long pass play there. Were you even at the game? : WOS had 1 td called back, not 3. To state they WOULD have scored is just not accurate, not the way the Tigers defense was playing. Would've,should've,could've. WOS 14 Silsbee 7 in OT. We were lucky to get a gift from Silsbee. Maybe we should accept it as that and move on to this week. I agree td. WOS, like Coach Hooks said on our preview show last night, was very fortunate to get that win. Sometimes you win when you maybe don't deserve it and sometimes you lose. Time to focus on the next game. I don't know that we didn't "deserve it." I think both teams deserved it pretty equally. WO-S was ahead in stats and hung in there, and they played an all-around better game in the clutch - when the chips were truly down.
  11. He may not call all the plays, but I bet he backs up all of them. The final decision goes through him. Not actually. The OC is in the press box and relays the plays through another coach via a headset, who relays them to the QB. He's not a micromanager.
  12. I think, and I can't speak for everyone, that most WO-S fans are not frustrated with playcalling when we're winning because it's working. The problem comes when there is a serious lack of adjustment when the playcalling is NOT working. I'm glad LuvYaBlue said that, because we're constantly saying, "First down, time to run," or, "Silsbee threw on first down! Is that LEGAL? Where's the FLAG?" (sarcasm, obviously). I'll give the OC credit: he throws more frequently on second down than in the past, and I've said that several times. In my opinion, it's not as bad as it WAS. My main problem has been the lack of utilizing an effective short-to-mid range passing game - especially slant plays (and similar routes) when the middle IS open consistently. Having said that, we actually threw quite a few mid-range passes against Silsbee. They just didn't execute. I don't know what was wrong with Hypolite for a short period there in the game. He seemed way off target, which is not normal. There in the fourth, it looked like he pulled it back together. But for at least one quarter, passes were way off - one short pass even hit the dirt (a first). But by all means, Silsbee was our equal on Friday night. I'd heard horrible things about the Tigers' defense, but I told those around me that they don't miss many tackles (or didn't on Friday night). We, on the other hand, missed a ton, which is not typical of the Chain Gang. I attribute a little of that to being out of sync and a lot of it to Silsbee just wanting it more for three quarters. Good job pulling out the win, Stangs. That is a huge show of character. But it's time to wake up and get angry. You're going to have to FIGHT to keep the streak alive - not go through the motions. It was good to see you there in the fourth.
  13. The previous reply is right - two wins deep in a six-game playoff is not DEEEEP, though great for a program that is trying to turn around. Back in the late 90s and early 00s, 20-4A was probably the strongest or second strongest 4A district in the state, but now it's just above average. Let's face it - since we (WO-S) dropped out, we've beaten the eventual 20-4A champs EVERY YEAR, and we haven't won it all in the 3A level. There is no way that one of the top 4A districts in Texas has its BEST team lose to a 3A team every year for five years (possibly six, if Nederland wins it this year).
  14. Also, I'm curious how many of those QB runs in the first half were really busted plays rather than designed runs due to the problem we were having with really high snaps. Hypolite had to jump for a few of them, and either Quinny was gone by the time he came down with it or the pocket was collapsing.
  15. This year's LCM team is one of the worst local teams in recent memory. Changes are needed desperately. A running clock is not uncommon. We've had one for a full quarter (or half) in at least one game each year for the last three years. Basically, the coaches agree that the clock will run regardless just so they get the thing over with with minimal morale damage.
  16. He knelt, then stood up and panicked and spiked it BACKWARDS, which WO-S grabbed. It would have been live and recovered by WO-S had he not taken a knee. Just a very costly brain fart. I will give Silsbee props. They were the better team in the first half and equal to WO-S in the third quarter. In the fourth, WO-S seemed to dominate until the muffed punt gave the Tigers new life. Once it went into OT, the Stangs finally shook off whatever had been mudding them up all night. Silsbee's tackling was fantastic. I wish we'd had as solid a grip on defense tonight. I don't know if the Mustangs came in expecting to walk over Silsbee or what, but, regardless, both teams played hard and will wake up in the morning knowing that they played somebody. Fortunately, WO-S again found a way to win. Great game, Silsbee.
  17. LC-M had good years between 94-99 or so, but no playoff appearances in their history otherwise. Still, it is looking more and more like they have a leader who just doesn't care anymore. Our game against them was a shame, as was the PN-G game, and now Central.
  18. Actually, he patted the ref on the back and told him what a great job he was doing - and the doggone jerk tossed him from the game.
  19. Sorry, I don't buy it for even a split second.
  20. Royal has a strong D. They really do. They're aggressive and can fly to the ball, much like the Chain Gang. But there was a LOT of extracurricular stuff. When you're down 33-7 and you hit the QB AFTER the RB has been tackled, don't nod and prance toward the opponents' coaches. It's impossible to escape the chants of "score-board..." I would have sworn #77 was ejected in the second quarter, but he returned in the third and played out the game. He was a big dude - too big. He was winded after every play.
  21. Depth makes it impossible for a team of 25 like WO-S to beat WB. But if you presented some fantasy situation in which the teams were equalized - like starters only - WO-S handily. WB has been reasonably good in recent years, but has had horrifically awful years. WO-S always finds a way to field a winning team - usually dominant.
  22. According to my dad, the Oak Creek VIllage/International area looks great considering - no major damage, water or even limbs down. He also said his house, which is in Waterwood, is ok, but that the streets are impassable and that the water in the inlets is up to the very top step in many yards. Most BC areas apparently are impassable/flooded.
  23. In regards to the SS# story, I heard it on FOX News Radio in DFW.
