BEAUMONT — This season-opening thriller – Nederland 21, West Orange-Stark 20 – was decided on a roll, and not the roll of the dice. It appeared, you see, to many press box observes that Hopkins’ rear touched the artificial turf inside the 1-yard line before he rolled backwards into the north end zone. [/b] Nonetheless, regardless of the somewhat controversial ruling, it certainly doesn’t diminish the effort the Bulldogs put into their near miraculous comeback from an early fourth-quarter deficit of 20-7. West-Orange-Stark’s Cornel Thompson, who made his debut as legendary coach Dan Hooks’ successor before the crowd of about 8,500, certainly won’t dispute that. “We weren’t able to put it away,” said Thompson. “We played hard, and we played well for the most part, but there were some plays on which we had poor execution. “We gave up a couple of big plays coming down the stretch, and you can’t do that and survive against a good team. We had them (the Bulldogs) on the ropes, then we let them up.

When you've got someone wearing an 80 jersey in at QB... and then a 20 the next play... and then a whole different "QB" on the next play... I don't think we threw it downfield more than once all night. I don't think we threw a pass after the first quarter. Did we? Why are we arguing with her anyway?

[/quote] ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) not at all! it's just the proven facts... since my freshman year in HS for sure that i have looked that these boards and year after year yall say "this is the year, this is the year" only but a few years have yall had the competition in district to compete with yall (usually when yall have an "off" year). there is NO DOUBT that WOS is a great football team! WOS' history on the field has proven how great of a team they are year after year. and i would LOVE for ANY SETX football team to bring home a state Title! that would bring great pride to our area after ALL of the tragedies that go on down here. For any team down in this area to be able to go through any devastation such as a Hurricane like Rita or Ike to the loss of an amazing athlete, or the loss of an amazing student shows the dedication and hard work to just make it through the first couple rounds of the playoffs... i look forward to supporting ALL SETX teams in the playoffs... just as soon as BC is out of it!  :D [/quote] Crawfishin'... Had we been running on the cylinders that we are now, I think the earlier game would have ended with a WO-S victory. WO-S won't be intimidated, because they've owned Kville until this season. We had a SERIOUS setback and played them first with a first-time sophomore starter at QB. This ain't the same party that it was in September. Let's play, baby.

OF is a run, run, run team. Our experience vs. BC showed a serious hole in the run D. I could be totally wrong, but, then again, I'll always root for OF vs. BC.

The potential (talent) is certainly there. I'd LOVE a Kirbyville rematch at this point - now that we've re-solidified our passing game and confidence.

Only a few coaches meet your standard, then. Neumann has struggled with losing talent. Only Barbay and Hooks (28 years without a losing season) fit your mold.

Having four playoff teams is a joke.

I'm a WO-S fan. I have no dog in this fight. No doubt it's LC-M in this one. Nederland is pretty awful this year, and LC-M is having one of their once-per-decade seasons.

The best way to stop someone from running up the score is to stop them. I can't remember, as a Mustang fan, ever griping that another team was "running it up." Of course, most of that is a credit to the Chain Gang, but there have been a few who managed to beat us like we stole something. That's our fault. It's football. There's no crying in football.
