  1. No, but it's okay to be emotional when a part of your life comes to an end. It's not okay to "throw a fit" just because of something trivial - like if someone left your team out of a "congrats on a big upset" thread. That would just be ridiculous. Somehow I doubt the LM players were rolling around, kicking and screaming. Several times I've seen players kneel and shed tears after a playoff run or a hope-filled season. It's not the same if you know your season will be over after a given week.
  2. Yeah, I remember hearing that last time we played LaMarque. We beat them too. Congrats.
  3. I feel great! My Mustangs were on the winning side of one of TWO BIG UPSETS in our area (the other being Dayton)!
  4. A "personal twist on the spelling." I like that. You're a funny guy. Do you own a banjo?
  5. So because I'm defending kids who were upset that the fruits of their hard work had come to an end, you're attacking me personally? That's fine. At least I'm an adult, and it's pretty true to the character you've shown so far. But if you're going to be so aggressive, you might want to check into some grammar lessons. Good luck next week, Raiders. It should be a fairly easy win.
  6. Yes, we WO-S fans are jealous of Lumberton. Why wouldn't we be? : YOU invaded a WO-S/Dayton thread to question why we didn't include you! Look, this stuff is nothing new to us. I realize that you're excited about something new for y'all and I'm glad you're able to enjoy it. But if you think I'd trade places with ya for a second, you've fallen off the "L-Train" and hit your head on something hard. It's great that you and half the people in the state of Texas would HAVE said that the Lumberton game was the biggest upset (despite the fact that LaMarque came in third in district and already had two losses). Unfortunately for you, neither you nor half of the state started this thread. I did, and I didn't consider it an upset. The fact that you got so up in arms screams "jealousy." Enjoy your kudos. Honestly, I could give a crap about kudos. In fact, I can't see the difference between "kudos" and "rankings," in which case, we're getting far more I care more about our kids playing their best and continuing the 30-year legacy of WO-S that is outlined in my sig. Abovetherim, sorry for losing you with my sarcasm. It's my nature. Let's move on.
  7. Some programs and players expect to win, even in a down season. Even though LaMarque isn't what they were last year - and certainly not the powerhouse of the 90s - that standard is still there. Despite the things you might think are wrong with their style, you should respect what they built there. I don't see how calling out players for being emotional is in any way "classy." In fact, it's downright trashy. Do you not expect the Raider players to be down when this ride ends? You should be ashamed of yourself.
  8. Thanks for the congrats, and no hard feelings. From now on, I'll be sure to post according to your habits.
  9. Hmm. I thought I had noticed quite a few "Congrats (fill in the blank)" threads over the last few months. Weird.
  10. We're cool. My inlaws live in Lumberton and called us from the game. I was excited for y'all. Not an upset, but I was excited nonetheless.
  11. Nope. Perfectly stable. I just get annoyed that I can't congratulate my team on a big upset without it turning into a "fishing for compliments" tournament.
  12. I understand. However, you do realize that it wasn't an outright slight. It was a difference in perception. I don't see beating a team that you SHOULD beat as an upset. That's a compliment to you. The problem I have is that this thread turned from a message to our players into a "WHAT ABOUT US?" thread. That's pretty crappy, guys. Tigersvoice, I wasn't talking to you when I said that stuff. Your question was legitimate - I just didn't like that it became the focus of the thread. Bad day? My team just knocked off the NUMBER ONE RANKED TEAM IN THE STATE! I had a great day
  13. Well, thanks for hijacking a thread congratulating Dayton and WO-S on their wins over two top-ranked teams and making it into a Lumberton/LaMarque thread. It's nice to know that while you can have 50 "congrats Ltrain" threads, but God forbid we have a thread congratulating the other teams out there without including Lumberton in the mix. While I do feel genuinely happy that you guys are finally able to enjoy some success, it's pretty annoying that we have to be on our tiptoes to make sure we don't leave out the raiders. Lame. I heard the Lumberton score and was not surprised. I was surprised by the WO-S win (pleasantly) and by the dominating fashion by which Dayton disposed of a Top 10 team. I understand that you don't give any regard to rankings. How about this: WO-S beat an UNDEFEATED #1 team. Dayton beat the team that swept the same district that dealt LaMarque two losses. Yes, Lumberton beat a good team. Dayton beat a better one. I wasn't going to point that out, but, since you brought it up... Not only did you take a congratulatory thread and turn it into a whine-fest, but you tried to get a little "dig" in by using WO-S as an example. Classy! Yes, we're typically ranked at some point every year and don't always blow everyone away. We do, however, win an average of nine or 10 games a year, so it's probably a fairly safe gamble by those divvying out the rankings. Back to the topic at hand :... Congrats to the Stangs and Dayton on two huge upsets! DISCLAIMER: The above statement is merely an attempt to show pride in my two favorite local teams and is not a slight against any not explicitly congratulated in the body of the message, including (but not limited to) Lumberton, PN-G, Newton, Kirbyville, West Brook, The Dallas Cowboys, Texas A&M, the Houston Astros, the New Zealand All Blacks, the National Curling Team of Brazil, Johnny the World's Fastest Thompkins Gazelle and Burt (a very strong beetle).
  14. I don't think Lumberton/LaMarque was an upset. You had an unranked 10-1 team tied for first in district beat an unranked 9-2 team that came in third in district.
  15. I think when you have a tradition like LaMarque does, it's hard to pull a sellout when it's obvious you're not on that "state title" trail. LaMarque started off the year with big expectations, but had a rough second half of the year, losing big games to Texas City and Dickinson (the last week of the regular season). While there are a lot of schools who would take an 8-2 record any year, there are those who consider that record a huge disappointment, and fans get apathetic. I'm truly happy for Lumberton to have the support that they do, but remember that for LaMarque, there is no such thing as being satisfied with a season if it does not end in a state title. Clearly that was not going to happen this year. Maybe after coming in third in district, fan support fell off. I don't know, but I can identify. Until it's clear that we're "on a run," fan support at WO-S tends to be less than what it should be - but those of us who are there every week are hard core. Once success is an expectation, it's hard to maintain that city-wide euphoria. Enjoy it, and I sincerely hope that you have to worry about the same problem soon. Although it IS a problem, it's better than the alternative - big crowd and no wins. Why is it that the posters who call a team "classless" always post the most classless comments? ???
  16. Argue whether whichever was an upset if you'd like, but if you go by statewide expectations and rankings, WO-S and Dayton both made headlines this week. Unranked Dayton knocked off 4A's #8-ranked team, and the eighth-ranked Mustangs knocked off NUMBER ONE Giddings! GREAT week by both teams! Go Mustangs and Broncos (and everyone else, of course)!
  17. I'd say first in this area would be (unless I'm missing something) WO-S/Giddings, as it's the AP #1 vs. #7. Next on my list would be Dayton/Texas City, which is the only other local matchup featuring a Top 10 team (Texas City - #8, I think).
  18. I guess the fact that it was his first ever post that made me infer that he was being serious. I'm not saying Lumberton won't beat such-and-such, I'm just suggesting that probably seeing "Everman" or "Highland Park" on your next-round ticket would be a bit more stressful at this point.
  19. Dude. Lame. It's great to have pride and confidence in your team, but this looks like something a 10-year-old would post. It also looks like something posted by someone who knows nothing about any of the other teams across the state. You're begging for someone to say "You don't know any other teams because you've never played anyone outside of the district/area/region." Lumberton is a good team - their best ever. However, if I were a 4A playoff team that was familiar with this year's Lumberton team and saw them as our next opponent, I would probably feel at least a slight bit of relief. They are a playoff-caliber team, but not one of the "high rollers" whose names command respect, like LaMarque, Calallen, etc. LaMarque doesn't appear to be nearly what they have been in the past, but the name is still one that people dread to see. I do think Lumberton can beat them. However, I also think that at least half of the teams still alive in DII could beat Lumberton on any given night. Good luck. Personally, I'd hate to meet Waco LaVega. Fortunately, that won't happen until next week (if we advance).
  20. No, the winning team is indicated by the scoreboard. The better team is a subjective concept that can't be objectified by something like a score. There are too many different concepts of what "better" means. To me, it means the team who would be most likely to win any game on any given night. To others, it means the team with darker colored uniforms. In that case, Giddings would be "better." I think that if last year's teams were to play 10 concurrent games, WO-S would win six. In a game as close as last year's - which was much closer than even an eight-point final would indicate - it's tough to call one or the other "better." I'd say, honestly, that the two were pretty even last year, and that coaching, in the end, was the difference.
  21. That said, I can fix all of those daunting questions: "Why do we have to play Team A?" Because you do. We're the UIL. You don't wanna play Team A? Go home. It's up to you. "If you look at our schedule versus their schedule.............." Uh huh. Noted. Good luck Saturday. "We are getting screwed in all of these Secret Meetings Everyone hates us." You're nuts. Good luck Saturday. "Do we re seed by points or head to head?" How many of these teams have already played? We re-seed by power rankings provided by WOS87. Happy? No? Tough s##t. We're the UIL. Good luck Saturday.
  22. Hence the phrasing: "there's no way to re-configure brackets." I didn't ask why they don't. I'm stating, in more specific language, that it sucks to see two of the best in the state playing an elimination game while some matchups feature two teams that could beat neither of the two at hand. I don't know that they do it in any sports. I'm pretty sure they don't. I said "events," such as debate, etc. At least, they used to. It was a pie-in-the-sky kinda thing.
