Well, on a plus note, I didn't see any BC or CS kids throwing punches or fighting among themselves as was previously reported.

BC kids were out of line, no doubt.  No excuse for that at all.  Very disappointing.  I don't have a problem with discipline being handed down from the UIL.  I'll be very disappointed if Landry/Dubois don't make a very strong statement by punishing the kids who touched or aggressively approached the umpire.  That's not who we are.

Back to my original thought that was misunderstood by a lot of the faithful.  You have to wonder if this whole situation was worsened by the behavior of some BC fans.  I'm not justifying the calls.... I wasn't there and the video of the at bat in question looks bad, but who knows? I DO know that multiple fans from BC were ejected from the game prior to this altercation.  Did their behavior improve the umpire's performance?  Apparently not.

How are players supposed to react when they've got an hour's worth of "Hey, Blue.... you're blind..... You're horrible..... Got to hell," etc, etc.? How can you expect kids to respond appropriately when their fans (and possibly family) have been disrespecting the officials for an hour or better?

Nothing good comes from bashing the officials.

CardinalBacker... very seldom have I agreed with you on your posts, but you have been spot on regarding this thread!!!  Glad to see everyone is not blindly drinking the Kool-aid!!!

Ok... I'll jump in here. If you go back and read the initial Silsbee vs. BC thread, I said that I picked BC to win in three because our bats had recently gotten hot. Period.

That was closely followed by a proud Silsbee fan/dad popping back that we haven't faced pitching yet... it escalated into board managers trying to bet me $500 on the series, etc...

i was the ONLY person picking BC to win the series, and I was right. I'm a big guy.... I can take it, and I can dish it out.  In fact, I enjoy it. If you don't like trash talk, don't start it. It's that easy.

But you can't say "you haven't seen pitching (because you haven't faced MY boy) yet" and then gripe about "class" when it doesn't work out like you'd hoped.

You can't challenge people to bets and then be mad because you lose and the other guy is taking a victory lap.

But I agree. That did kinda get outta hand.  Sorry for some of that.

CardinalBacker....  Can not let you pretend you are the innocent victim here when you ARE the problem!!  I don't post a lot, but I do read a lot.  You troll almost every thread that has to do with Silsbee in every sport.  Even when games or the subject has nothing to do with Bridge City, you chime in with your negative Silsbee comments and of course you have to throw in your classic "Smoketown" even though no one on the thread has referred to Silsbee as such.  You obviously have a thing against Silsbee,  Do not think for one second that this thread is not about you, because IT IS!!!  So, just like Rake asked AAW to try to be more positive.  I am personally going to ask you to do the same, and if you can not, then stay off Silsbee threads that have nothing to do with Bridge City.  If non of that works, WOSgrad you should do the right thing and BLOCK HIM FROM THE SITE!!!

Everybody on this board that DOESN'T live in Smoketown knows that Silsbee doesn't take 4 of 4 from the Cards this year.  3 out of five, maybe.... And that leaves the Tigres out.

We're a young team and peaking at the right time.

Not sure who that french team is...  but the Tigers will advance!!!

  4. What a great game to watch.  Great pitching, with one exception for both sides, great defense, in game adjustments...etc.  By far the best game I have seen JD throw,  had great command of all his pitches.  Trevis battled all night and made huge pitches when he needed them, just as he has time and time again for those of us who have had the privilege of watching him for the last three years.  Hats off to both teams!!!  Silsbee will be just fine... lost 4 games all year by a total of 4 runs.  Said it all along... Games 1 & 2 are not near as important as the coin toss and games 3,4 & 5!!  Hoping for an all SETX regional final!!!  Good luck to all D22 teams!  Let's go represent!!!!

  5. I hear ya!!!  But in what you expect to be a close game...  how willing are you to give them a couple of baserunners to get your message across.  The kid that got HBP....  that was a strike,  and when our catcher stopped the game and got Nelson to talk to umpire.  The kid's rear foot was completely behind the plate.  I just don't like doing away with the inside line of the batter's box, never have... think it takes away from the game.  To me it makes it a call very few umpires will make.  There are three lines that are important....  front, back and inside.  Want to do away with a line to save chalk....  do away with the outside line.  If a batter wants to stand 3 1/2 feet away from the plate, let him...  does not effect pitch calling one bit!!  Unless he is Happy Gilmore, it only hurts him not the other team.  JMHO
