2. 13 hours ago, BS Wildcats said:

If it happens in front of fielders, I believe the ball is dead.  Batter gets awarded first and runners move up if forced.  If it happens behind fielders, the ball is live and in play.  Mr. Ump may be able to help if this is not correct.

You are correct

3. Yes.

There is also a catcher's box. That one is enforced about 0% of the time.

A lot of people don't know the rule about being in the catchers box. The catcher has to be in the box "at the time of the pitch". When is the time of the pitch? Most people think it's when it leaves his hand. Most people are wrong. Time of the pitch is when a pitcher makes a move that commits him to deliver the pitch. So from the wind up, that first lttle rocking he does before he steps with his non pivot foot is "time of the pitch". It comes in to play when we award bases too. A runner may be standing on the next base when a pitcher lets go but if he wasnt there before "time of the pitch" his reward comes from the previous base.   BAM..that's the sound of ol teeboan dropping some knowledge on ya...lol

4. 3rd to 1st is legal.   Must gain ground towards 3rd before the turn/throw back to 1st.  It would be a balk if he didn't gain ground.  But it is a judgment call on whether he gains ground.

If coach pulls out a rule book on the field he better be ready to take a seat.

He better be ready to go count lug nuts on the bus, then plan a trip to Austin.

5. The Kountze coach was not right on the rule book call and if he does not get that rule figured out it is going to effect them in other one run games down the road. The 3rd to 1st pick off move is illegal in the pros.  Not in high school. Not only should they know it can be run on them, they better be prepared to catch some runners throughout the season by running it themselves.

Umpires please chime in and let these folks know this pick off move is still legal in high school so they can be aware it may be coming and hopefully use it to their advantage down the road.  Our coaches have coached 800 high school games. Surely they know the rules.

You are correct , the 3rd to 1st move it STILL legal in High School rules.

6.

Really?  116 views and not one taker?  C'mon and join the "dark side".  LOL

The simple truth is, if we do not get more umpires, we will not be able to cover all our schools this year. This is not just a SE TX problem. It is state wide. So if you're wondering why peolpe don't want to umpire or when you go to your son's game and wonder why there is no umpire or only one - ask the man in the mirror..if it is the expense of getting equipment to get started that's holding you back our chapter can help with that. New guy training is at 6 tonight at 700 Orleans in Bmt. Mention my name for a good seat!!
7. Thank God I'm not from Southeast Texas. It's like going back in time when you come down here.

Wow, you really seem full of spite, that's a shame, East Texas is a GREAT place to be. Sounds like you could use a few quite evenings up there looking at the stars. It tends to make a man realize how small he is... and going back to living like "old times" doesn't sound half bad to me! Do I hear Mayberry's theme song? You are all whistling now aren't you?

8. #3 now pitching for Barbers Hill with 2 outs and runner on 2nd...now pitching for BH is #15 with 2 runners on 2 outs...3 run homer by Nederland 'a Bret Smith!!!
Nederland 6
This ump is a SAD excuse for an umpire!!! Call it both ways or don't umpire!!!
Barbers Hill 2
After 5

What was SAD was the Nederland fan yelling HIT HIM IN THE THROAT AGAIN after the plate ump had been hurt by a foul ball to the throat.

9. When a catcher lines up over the plate, catches a pitch in between his shin guards and below his mask it doesn't take the guys in the "3rd row" to figure out if it was a strike or not. Both catchers last night are about as good as you can find around here and routinely they both showed frustration with the guy. Email that to your committee Callaway 7.

Rake1

It's not where they catch it. It's where it crosses the plate. I have seen lots of curve balls caught where you state that cross the plate too high. Yet the 3rd row ump always calls them strikes.

10. High Island and Hardin played there earlier. It's a pretty cool deal how it works. Each school is on the hook for 500 tickets at 20 each ($10,000). they turn around and sell the tickets for 27 each ($13,500). They give 10k to the Astros and get to keep 3500 for their program plus play at MM. The tickets are actually vouchers and good for any game except the opening series against the Yankees.

just a quick scan i noticed not one kid from pn-g, ned or bc on the teams. i wonder why that is.

Either they weren't nominated by their coaches or if they were, they weren't available to play
12. I was talking to the umpire that made this call at our meeting last night. He said the throw from home was wide right and brought the SS to the 1st base side of 2nd. The contact happened 8 to 10 feet before 2nd base. You can't expect a kid to slide that far away because of a bad throw. Like we say D, "somtimes train wrecks happen". It was no different than a throw from SS pulling 1b off the bag towards home and him having a collision with the batter/runner coming up the line.

When the ref right on top of the play signals INT, and the ref 50 yards away runs across the field  and signals incomplete pass, even the fans that the call favors have to wonder......then they say they will take it.
Well first off your judgement is horrible if you think I was 50 yards away. I was in the middle of the field and the pass was near the LOS near the numbers. Hardly 50 yards. Second the LJ covering the call (an excellent official) was screened out because the DB had his back to him.He couldn't possibly tell if he ball hit the ground. I saw the ball bounce when the player went down so I helped him. They call plays like that catches in every NFL game played. They have a camera to help we don't. We got that call right so what's your beef?

Once again, looking at the video, the coach steps towards the runner with his left leg on the field. It's a far cry from not knowing, mistake, etc.  I will admit that video stops and I don't know if he offered to help him up after it stopped. Still doesn't make what first did right.
You are exactly right. The coach steps into the runner. As an official I have been invovled in contact many times and NEVER stepped into it with my elbows out. It is instinct to step AWAY from the contact with your palms out, not your elbows.
