  1. how much air presser us in a texas hight school football  and  are they ever ck before a game .i qas asked this yesterday

actually it is to be from 12.5 to 13.5 psi..yes we check them before every game (varsity) and then mark them..each crew has it own mark..when they throw in a new ball we check for our mark, if it's not there is goes back out...by the end of the year a ball looks like it has graffitti all over it!

  2. Couple of questions MrUmp1

Couple of things that happened at the West Sabine vs McLeod game.

Pitcher pitched more that 10 innings in one day.  Have found out since then that this is a rules violation, West Sabine's coach knew this because it happened to WS in either 03 or 04.  But umpires at the game said it wasn't a rule.  If it is what is the penalty?  Also one of the umpires told a parent that you could not protest a High School game.  Is this true?  Sad part about this is this was WS's chosen umpires from the Beaumont chapter.

The sad part is that now you know the umps were right but I bet you don't pass that along to all the people that were bad mouthing them last week.

  3. If it is a rule it is not something that is enforced by the Umpires. You would need to contact the UIL regarding that. It is correct that there is no protest of a High School game. This is covered under Federation Baseball rules which the UIL uses. So there is no SAD PART about anything the Umpires did. Contact the UIL with your question.

I have a statement then question. 1st I was at all the WS games against Alto and Mcleod and I thought the 2 Bmt guys (same for each series) did a wonderful job. In the Mcleod series, runner on 1st, in the pitcher's delivery the 3rd base ump called a balk. The pitcher continued w/delivery which runner was going on and batter fouled off. The 3rd base ump walked in to the infield with his hands up and notified the home plate ump he had a balk (pitcher didn't stop) and awarded the runner 2nd base. There was a guy in the stands that was yelling it was a foul ball and the defensive coach should appeal it. He yelled this for about 2 innings. My question is - Mr Ump why is it that the people that know the least, yell the most?

  4. Oilers, you have a good looking squad and congratulations on a successful season.  And fans (or at least one fan) don't get down on your QB.  He's got a good arm and generally makes good decisions with the ball.  On his bad throws he was being harrassed pretty badly and could not get his feet set to deliver a good pass and on a couple of other times the rushers were close enough to hit his arm while he was throwing.  Those protective corrections need to be made elsewhere.  The QB never quit and neither did any of the Oilers.

West Sabine was well into the third quarter before they made anything near a mistake!  They not only played good, they played excellently for the first 30 - 32 game minutes.  Hard to hang with a team that comes out smokin' like that.  On another night - the outcome could be different.  But last night, the Tigers were just too sharp.

Good fortune and no injuries wished to both teams and we enjoyed doing the webcast.  tigersvoice

I  was an official in the game and we enjoyed the game too. Two great coaching staffs and two great groups of kids made it very enjoyable. Thank you W.H. and W.S. We expect great things from you both in the future!

  5. Actually, Cherokee was played over and over again...and, most of the time, the fans were on their feet!  It was no competition...PNG fans clearly outdid the Dayton fans.  Dayton  was the better team and won the game hands down.  I can't believe someone from Dayton would slight the PNG fans like this.  Just goes to show.  However, when my wife and I arrived at the game, we were parked behind the Dayton side. When we went to go in the gates, the Dayton gatekeepers refused to take our tickets...said we weren't allowed to go thru on that side or park our car behind the home stadium. One of the Dayton posters, actually told me to park here by the junior high school, would be easier to exit.  About that time, one of the assistant coaches from Dayton walked up, heard the conversation and told the gate keeper that she was the rudest person he had ever seen and was ashamed she was from Dayton. He then, personally, escorted my wife and I thru the Dayton side, around the track to the visitors side.  A guy with a lot of class.  He was very apologetic the whole way and told us he was embarrassed.  We told him it was ok, just everyone caught up in the moment. He said he had a lot of respect for PNG and their fans....which, he said, just kept coming and coming! LOL ! I've actually made friends with some Dayton posters, and I know they all don't disrespect PNG or PNG fans this way.  Good Luck, Broncos, in the playoffs!!!

To be fair to the ticket taker, she was probably told not to let y'all through. Many schools don't want the fans from each side mingling for their own safety. There should have been signs though, showing where to park. Good luck Indians!

  6. the first time.. they stopped the clock.. moved the ball.. and started the clock.. the new rule is also that you can only do it once.

I was one of the officials in the game. Let me say it was the hardest fought, cleanest played, game I have been in all year. Great job from both teams. Clock operators simply do what the crew on the field signals them to do, so to the guy ealier accusing them of cheating, they weren't, you should apologize. You are right. We stopped it, marked off 5 yds and started it. Second time we stopped it marked off 5 yds and let it start on the snap.

  7. this crew sounds like they are on thier toes but this a 5a game and they get first choice of officals by the time 1a and 2a games are assignned officals it is often the bottom of the barrel and this season has been no different lots of old overwieght out of position officals

Actually this is exactly the routine for my crew. Also I have worked the ned/png game 1 week and then cathedral christian's the next so as you see you're opinion on big game crews not working smaller games is incorrect. We need new officials though, you are invited to join.

  8. i have saw more old and fat officals who cant move around wouldnt help if there were 8 of them

You have saw? Not an english major, I take. Our new mechanics is to have 1 in the offensive backfield (ref) and 1 on each sideline. That is a lot of running for us old and fat officials. All we can do is our best. Hopefully you're good on a shovel, sounds like you'll need to be.

  9. That assumes you have competent officials. Which is unlikely and then they would have to actually be on the field to prevent it.

Why don't you join our chapter? We could use a man with great competence such as you. Actually we stand at mid field before the game and second half to prevent such things. My crew does anyway and I presumed all do.

  10. if you get ejected its just for the game, but also i believe if you get 2 Personal fouls during a game that you are ejected for the remainder of the game and then also the next game..

actually if you get 2 USC's (unsportsman like conduct) you get tossed. Also we have to file an incident report. Every school district has there own policy toward ejections.

  11. There are three calls from last week that stick out in my mind.

    1. The delay of game penalty on Schexnaider of PN-G. That was plain stupid.

    2. I understand the personal foul on Broussard after laying a big hit and walking backwards probably jawing a little bit to the Ned WR, but the next play the Ned WR makes a catch and runs up to Broussard and gets in his face with no call???? In front of the same ref????

    3. PN-G kicked it out of bounds and it seems like Ned started on the 30 yard line. Ned kicked it out and PN-G started on the 35. Did Ned have a penalty I missed? It is supposed to start on the 35 right?

here's the options on a kick OB.1) back up 5 yds and rekick, 2) take it where it went out ( if ahead of the 30) or 3) take it 30 yds from the kicking spot (normally the 40 which gives then the ball @ the 30) If PNG got it at the 35, that must be where it went out..had it gone out on the 25 they would get it at the 30 or back up and rekick  and yes I am an official

  12. What rule is that?

I am not saying that it is not correct but if fumbling is all that it takes to advance a ball, then a person that signals for a fair catch but sees that he now has a lot of room to run, can simply "drop" the ball to the ground making it a fumble, then pick it back up and run with it. That would supposedly nullify the fair catch signal.

a muff is not a fumble

  13. You're all clueless. We (board memebers of the chapter) meet with every area caoch early in August and the COACHES pick us. They start with the last week of the season and work their way to week 0. The 2 schools playing that week sit together and decide which crew they want. We send each head coach a photo album before the end of school with each crew's pictures, names, home address, years of experience and any conflicts. Get some facts before you form an opinion.

  14. We (officials) talked about this type play before. If they verbalize before or during the play (yell wrong ball) it's 15 yards for unsportsman like conduct. They are purposely trying to deceive the opponents. Personally I think it shoud be allowed. Isn't a reverse "purposely trying to deceive the opponent"? But I don't get to make the rules so -DON'T DO IT!

  15. The purpose for the rule is primarily safety.  If you all recall, an official ran into a coach on a long run two years ago and the coach suffered severe head injuries.  He will never be able to coach again.  His family is sueing the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) for damages.  That said, TASO will be extremely sensitive to this issue.

Well it's about time somebody gets it right. I am an official and this is the EXACT reason for the rule being a point of emphasis (again). It is a safety issue. You will also see spearing or leading with the crown of the helmet called more this year. Why? To keep kids out of wheelchairs! Not the ball carriers but the tacklers.

  16. You are right on about the fumble rule. If you ever notice, on 4th down or PAT's we (ref's) signal each other by rolling our fist over each other. That's a reminder to all that the fumble rule is in effect. What do the clockgate and brotherinlawpickedthecrewgate have in common? Both crews were from Houston Chapter not Bmt.

  17. As A HS official let me say a few things. 1) you will never see a 1st year guy working a varsity game 2) as an umpire my job is to wacth the play in FRONT of the direction of the ball so how could I call holding on the weak side when I'm not looking that way 3) Texas is one of 2 states to go by NCAA rules and the NCAA tie breaker is the best available, if the NFL wasn't so hard headed they would adopt it but they will never admit that college has a better way and last but most important, the rule I would change is I would eliminate ALL blocking below the waist.

  18. Why don't you join us and maybe you could help us improve. I go to several clinics a year (football official state meeting in college station in 2 weeks) for football and baseball. The majority of us work very hard to stay up on the rules and mechanics. Do you? The Beaumont Football Chapter begins holding meetings in 2 weeks at the Jefferson county courthouse. We welcome your expertise.
