Jasper vs. Diboll Game Thread/Jasper wins/Comments
j_dog replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Jasper is going to be tied for second no matter whether Center or Hudson wins. It would seem to me that if Hudson wins, Jasper has the clear tie breaker in the better record in the games between the two teams. If Center wins, it would be Hudson and Jasper tied with 3 losses each. Jasper and Hudson split, each winning their home game. So what would be their tie breaker? Or will a playoff game be necessary for seeding? -

Jasper did it the hard way in the second half of district picking up road wins against Pollok Central, Center, and Diboll. This assures Jasper at worst a tie for second place in the district, and an outside chance at a 3 way tie for first. Dogs, they said you could not do it! Congratulations on winning all your second half district games! :) I think this proves that the "scoring table" brouhaha was pure bunkum. Jasper proved they deserved to win by doing it on the road against some of the district's top teams.
asper played good ball the second half. They looked a lot better than the first half...
I think we have just seen typical Terry Young coaching. His teams seem to get stronger as the season goes on. Heck, who knows, they might even win a playoff game or two. For sure, I believe that Jasper will work hard to represent the district well. Now Jasper has to wait to see whether they will get the second or third spot after the tie breakers are sorted out. The possibility for a three way tie for first is gone, but a two way tie for second is assured for Jasper and the Center/Hudson loser if I am seeing things accurately. Jasper has played all its district games and Center and Hudson play their last game against each other. It was a very competitive district. With the right breaks any of the top six teams could have finished in the top three. Incredible. Standings: 18-3A Team W L x-Center 9 2 x-Lufkin Hudson 9 2 x-Jasper 9 3 Diboll 6 5 Huntington 3 8 Pollok Central 3 8 Kirbyville 0 11
No, it was Chris Bailey....best player, team leader. and captain....and holder of a full scholarship to SFA. Happened day before the game and pretty much wiped out the entire team. We just have to remember these are still kids and they will make mistakes. I just hope they learn from their mistakes and also that other kids see what happens when you do bone head, stupid things. Very crushing blow for the team, families, coaches, and fans of Diboll basketball. The timing could not have been worse.
Sorry that this happened. It takes away from the game for everyone. Including Jasper. Thank you Diboll fans for showing up on this site after a tough loss. You and Huntington fans have set a good example for other schools. Good luck in the future. -
Coach Steve Smith is a great coach. Been around baseball for year's, know's the game inside and out. Jasper is lucky to have him. He has a ring on his hand to prove it.
a VERY big ring!!

Lamar, SHS not primary WAC targets
j_dog replied to coachacola's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Moving up might work for Lamar. Lamar has the Golden Triangle to pull fans from. What, some 250,000 potential fans? Sam does not have those kind of numbers. I just do not see the economics being there for Sam. So, I doubt that Sam would be interested, nor that the WAC would be interested in Sam. If it turns out differently, I will be very surprised. -
Diboll and Jasper are tied @ 5-3 18-3A Team W L Center 7 1 Lufkin Hudson 6 2 Diboll 5 3 Jasper 5 3 Huntington 3 4 Pollok Central 2 6 Kirbyville 0 7
. Record through February 8 with two games left for every team except Jasper? Jasper plays Diboll at Diboll Friday night I believe. 18-3A Team W L Center 8 2 Lufkin Hudson 8 2 Jasper 8 3 Diboll 6 4 Huntington 3 7 Pollok Central 2 8 Kirbyville 0 8 Interesting how things are playing out in 18-3a. Especially for lightly regarded underDOG Jasper. At this point, they are the only team without a second half loss. If they lose to Diboll Friday they will be in a tie with Diboll for third place. I presume the tie-breaker would be Diboll's better record head to head and Jasper would be finished. On the other hand, if Jasper again somehow finds a way to win away from home, (as they did last night at Center and last week at Central) then it appears they will end district at least tied with either Center or Hudson for second. Against Center Jasper has two wins, and has a split with Hudson. Hudson has Huntington and Center remaining so either Center or Hudson must pick up another loss. There is a lot riding on the last two district games for all these four teams it appears. How is it going to play out?
Not sure on final score but Jasper over Vidor something like 14-5 or 15-4. Pino hits a 3 run hr over left field wall for a 3-1 lead. Close game while starters are in and I had to leave and come back to see late pitchers with walks and hbp's. Jasper will live by small ball this year with timely hits and walk/steal combo's. Dog's did better than expected but this was definately no Hester/ Sowell matchup type game. Good to see some HS action and see the Dog's new faces get some field time. Go Dog's 2011.
Small ball is OKAY! Jasper won state with small ball. :) -
If they played all their games at home the sky would be the limit. It's hard to overcome all the shenanigans that go on in the Jasper gym.
and what shenanigans did Jasper take to Center? seriously.

They have some pretty vivid and not very pleasant memories of their last trip to Jasper. Something about the clock and official scoring ??? If get out of Houston in time tomorrow may make the drive up to see that one. Should be entertaining.
jasper 51 center 46
and they said it could not be done! ;)

Wonders of wonders! Did someone forget to tell Jasper that they are only playing for third place? Two wins against the district leader! Wow! What is Center going to say now? Jasper must have taken their own "Scoring Table" and Timer with them! -
Does Jasper have anything coming up in the younger age groups? I know they were pretty stout for a couple of years. Are they looking to be average for a while or do they have any good players from JV and any returning starters?
I don't know. Haven't heard.
-
......... but I think if we started district today that Diboll would probably win district. .............
I think I see what you mean. If district started TODAY, Diboll would win the district. But if district started last week, then Center is the best team?? From what I sensed, it seemed the district was very competitive; and pretty even in talent. Then I read about the "scoring table" advantage. Judging from all the talk about the "scoring table" Jasper has no chance at Center against Center. Nor at Diboll against Diboll. And I thought it was actual Jasper players that made more shots than their opponents! Well, it was nice for Jasper while it lasted... :) They need time to get ready for baseball anyway. :)

Maybe they are "better" now than when district started, but the other team must be even better? And Jasper led Hudson most of the game last week and won by 8 or 9 as I remember. But true, Jasper will need to win at Diboll. Jasper does not have the lights out shooters of a couple years ago. May be tough to win in the playoffs if they make it.
Jasper hit a lot of threes the last game......they are a decent team. Also they did a good job at the clock and scores table. Looked like extra effort was made to get everything right.
Thanks for the scoring report. as I have said, there may have been problems at the table in the past, but from what I have seen, it hurt Jasper also.
