They’re an interesting matchup with SOC. They seem to have the speed to move the ball on them. -

We gave them that. Trying to make a highlight - Just stick your man. -
They’re not a pushover. Their big weakness on defense is they aren’t super good at tackling, especially in the open field. Listening to them, I think they overrate their secondary. But their offense is statistically about as good as Dayton’s or Nederland’s. So, nothing special but plenty enough to slow us down. We just need to be patient and avoid the temptation to go for big long passing plays. They’re saying they want us to pass because they think they’re tough enough to punch us in the mouth and shut us down, and they’re hoping a new qb gives them turnovers. I say we run it so hard and so much that they’re begging us to pass.

SOC plays dirty in every game. Last night was an embarrassing joke of officiating. Fights from the beginning, just like in the SOC/PNG game last year. SOC is the common denominator. They’re daring the refs to penalize them, knowing the refs won’t have the guts to actually call every flag or eject anyone.

Impressed with Mount Pleasant’s run defense.

I figured this one was coming. That entire staff needs an overhaul. -
Has anything final (from a definitely credible source) been said about Bailey’s injury? I think everyone expects he’s out for the season, but I’m curious about the official diagnosis. I saw somewhere that his mom said there hadn’t been confirmation that there was an ACL injury.

PNG gets the W, but this one has a lot more questions than it would have without the qb injury. We’ll be fine this week, though.

Good point. Another thing is I think it would do us well to simplify our passing game. Short easy passes. His speed adds a new wrinkle, for sure. I think he has a good touch on his passes. I’m excited to see how the coaches prepare him. The biggest wildcard in my view isn’t Ashworth’s skill — It’s his nerves, guts, etc. Bailey has ice in his veins, and he’s seen just about everything a high school qb can see. You can’t replace that kind of experience, and it can’t be taught. With a new starter getting baptized in the second round of the playoffs (you almost can’t count the game tonight because he was already going to play the whole second half with or without Bailey), it’s a giant question mark as to how he steps up mentally and emotionally. Not to mention becoming a good decision maker. That’s football, and we’ll just have to see. He’s already showing a lot of confidence. -

This is stunning. Really didn’t expect this. Sorry, La Porte. Playoffs are brutal. -

I hope they keep ashworth and the first team offense for most of the second half. Ashworth needs as many live reps with the starters as he can possibly get. Time to grow up fast. -

Bailey about to leave on a golf cart. Looks like his knee. Took a long time to get off the field. -

Conner Bailey hurt. Looked pretty bad. I’m sure he’ll be out the rest of the game. -
Yeah I’m not sure any of them comment. There may be some lurking. I wish they would talk. But, it’s been hard to get participation from anyone out of the Montgomery schools. And only a few Huntsville people join in, but they’re active enough they make for a bigger presence. The Montgomery schools, I think, would just as soon not be in our district. I agree it’s an unnatural fit, but we might as well talk while we’re together.

LC doesn’t have much firepower. They have spurts where they can be stingy on defense, but it’s nothing special. Their offense is one decent receiver, a solid qb, and a decent running back who isn’t raising any eyebrows. I might rank six RBs in our district higher than him (he’s a freshman with a good ceiling, so that’s not a knock on him). The result is pretty one dimensional, but they’ve moved the ball ok all season. Qb waits for a perfect pass to let it go, so you can get coverage sacks all night. He’s got a good touch when he does throw it. Numbers seem down over there. They don’t have the depth of a 5ad2 team. Basically, they’re a 4a team at a 5a school. The early game might be close — Despite everything we’re all saying, LC isn’t bad. They can make a game of it. They just don’t have a lot of talent or depth. So, I’m expecting it to be 14-7 to start the 2nd quarter, but it’s 45-7 by the end of the 3rd.

Snapshot day (realignment)/CUT OFF NUMBERS RELEASED

That would have been 5ad1 under current cutoffs, right? -
Biggest weakness for Nac on offense seems to be their o-line. Absolutely no resistance to Texas High’s attack last week.

Montgomery (45) @ Nederland (27) - FINAL

I didn’t say he was a bad coach. For whatever reason, the program wasn’t making any definite forward steps. Sometimes it’s a bad match, or he should have had more variety in his coaching experience (he worked under exactly one head coach). Perhaps he didn’t know or wouldn’t do some of the things that Uncle Larry had done. He only had three total playoff wins in seven years. Zero postseason wins since 2020, despite leading with strong seasons in 2017, 2018, and 2020. He finished with four or less wins three times, and two of those were his last two years. The trend was bad. It’s just hard to make the argument Nederland wasn’t at least as good trying someone else. -

If it’s Barrow, it’s totally wrong. He wasn’t performing and Nederland needed to try something else -
