  1. Definitely a different era but I'll put it this way. In 8 games WOS has already scored more points than the 86 and 87 teams in 16 and 15 games respectively and the defense is better.
  2. I agree that the stakes involved definitely matter. The first four games WOS and Jasper played BOTH were ranked in the top 10. 1986 #4 Jasper 21, #3 WOS 8 1986 #7 WOS 21, #6 Jasper 15 1987 #1 WOS 3, #3 Jasper 0 1988 #4 WOS 38, #9 Jasper 15 then when WOS dropped to 3A first game right off the bat was 2004 #2 Jasper 25, #1 WOS 23 2005 #3 WOS 28, #8 Jasper 22 Can't really get any better than that even if the rivalry has cooled off the last couple years. We still had that epic 3rd Round playoff matchup with WOS winning 18-16 as recently as 2013.
  3. When Jasper beat WOS in district their first season in 4A in 1986 21-8 then WOS beat Jasper 21-15 in the Quarterfinals that same year and went on to win their first State Championship. That became a rivalry in two games.
  4. I'm just waiting for the Liberty talk which will last for a FULL two weeks since WOS has a bye week. I may take a vacation.
  5. Feel free to use the team history section which includes Jefferson, Lincoln and SFA (originally known as Port Acres) in the Closed/merged programs thread. Not to fuel the fire more but the first meeting between TJ varsity and Port Neches was in 1944 I believe with Port Arthur winning 89-0 and going on to win the state championship that year. They met SFA in 1938 for the first time (as Port Acres.)
  6. Well if that is in fact the case chill out big time and let the mods and admins sort this out. Don't make things worse.
  7. Ummm.... me thinks someone is logged in to Pakronos account or this is a joke I am not getting.
  8. This is in fact the worst loss ever for West Brook surpassing Central's 53-0 drubbing of them in 1999.
  9. Evadale played Bremond in bidistrict 2012. It may be sooner than you think playing them again.
  10. Yep. I believe they have the states longest active winning streak by a lot.
  11. Lol. WOS ranked #17 in the State out of all classifications. No way we could hang with a school 10 times our size. Maybe for a quarter. [Hidden Content]
  12. Cuero has been a thorn in Navarro's side several years in a row. Navarro is very one-dimensional (run, run, run, etc) albeit they're very good at that dimension. As soon as they come up against a team that can stop the run and convert a few passes they lose. 2A Refugio held them to 14 points and they had a scare this past week to a private school. Wharton is also in that district with Sinton and Cuero and have a ton of returning starters so they have the potential of throwing a wrench in there if they pull it together.
  13. They said on the air Friday night that it would depend on the results of the games that night. Guess they were waiting to see which game would draw the most listeners.
  14. I think playing a Region 2 North Texas team was a perfect idea. Kennedale has always had a reputation of almost getting there but not ever having quite enough, yet is considered a powerhouse in their region just as WOS can lament from 2006-2013 in Region 3. There's a definite difference in mindsets between the regions I've found. DFW, East Texas, SE Texas, West Texas, Central Texas and South Texas are all very different despite essentially being of the exact same makeup.
  15. It's entirely plausible for Ned to win out and end up 6-2. The Central game is a toss-up in my eyes and MCM is always unpredictable so a win over PNG isn't out of the question either. I wouldn't count them out by any means and I don't have ties to any of the schools. Just an outsider looking in that know the histories.
  16. I completely expect a mild rise in smack talk when a possible 9-0 Liberty faces us in Week 10. Other than that, 3rd or 4th round of the playoffs.
  17. Results for the teams ranked in The Associated Press Texas high school football poll. Class 6A 1. Allen (5-0) beat Plano West 61-19. 2. DeSoto (5-0) beat Irving MacArthur 48-7. 3. Henderson (6-0) beat Carthage 36-28. 8. Gilmer (4-1) idle. 9. Geronimo Navarro (5-0) beat SA Central Catholic 56-34. 10. Abilene Wylie (3-1) idle. Class 3A 1. Brock (5-0) idle. 2. Newton (5-0) idle. 3. Franklin (5-1) lost to Cameron Yoe 42-38. 4. Malakoff (5-0) beat Groesbeck 62-28. 5. Sunnyvale (5-0) idle. 6. White Oak (5-0) idle. 7. Cameron Yoe (5-1) beat Franklin 42-38. 8. 18. A win's a win men. That's #17 in a row. Our all-time record is 24 from 1986-1988. I don't see us being pushed for the next five for sure (although i'm sure Liberty will quote me on this when that smack talk begins... ) and very likely six or seven or eight so new record to aim for.
  19. At this point the Rattlers will be hard-pressed to make the playoffs and if they do they'll face Carthage or Henderson in the first round unless something majorly improves there.
  20. Just saw this. Liberty and WOS are the only two remaining unbeatens in Region III 4A D2 [Hidden Content]
  21. WOS fared pretty well against TJ and Lincoln. Who's to say they couldn't now? In all seriousness I don't see other WOS people posting those threads but rather others in the area. It kinda goes with the territory when you're #1 in the state. I'm actually pretty proud they HAVEN'T let it go to their heads. We were 0-4 in games ranked #1 dating back to 1988 until this season (Jasper, Central, CE King and West Brook knocked us off I believe) which is where the true Mustang fans rabid fear of the infamous target comes from, but maybe that's just me. I've seen them lose too many times when they weren't supposed to to have any confidence past the next week/game.
  22. Cuero is quietly sitting there having only given up 14 points in five games.
  23. WOS, Gilmer, Cuero and Navarro seem to be consensus. Some have Sweetwater and Sinton up there too. Even though they have 2 losses I'd still put Celina up there.
