Congrats! That's a very nice honor. Those are great tournaments, good competition, and a lot of fun. We did the exact same thing a few years ago in Arizona, really enjoyed the experience. Those fields are gorgeous!

The 2016 WOS Mustangs get my vote for most dominant start to finish. May have been others with more high profile players, but not sure anyone dominated week in and week out like this group for sixteen games.

Well that escalated quickly ... I'm a firm believer in travel baseball. I've seen what it's done for my son and plenty of others ..don't get me wrong I love high school baseball nothing better than rivalry games and playoffs. Lucky for us we have great high school coaches but there are some schools who's coaches do not care like others. Travel ball gives them that exposure

I don't know very much about the perfect game stuff, but I do know recruiting.  I know that if you have a kid in order to get him into college you need to look really hard as to the level he will be able to play at.  With that, I mean, not actual talent, but the whole scheme that colleges look for. Size, strength, ability, work habits, upside in future, are they fully mature and done growing in high school where they stood out, but might get caught by others still growing and getting better in the future. I have been helping players get in front of college coaches for years because that's what I love to do.  I do know 100% that college coaches do go to high school games to recruit, but usually because some coach, someone with credibility has informed them of this player to watch who isn't under the radar. The biggest thing I've noticed in my 25 years of helping kids is that if you want to play, you need to get in front of the college coaches individually, you need to forget the name of the school you prefer, and go play at the level you can.   I've had many kids go to big expensive events as under classman and get all the hype of "We are interested in you" but then they don't grow anymore but still progress on the field and then they don't have that same opportunity as a senior now, so have the kids expose themselves like homework to as many colleges as possible at every level.. I tell my kids to email or call 10 college coaches (Head Coach or ASST only) every week and continue this, if you get any response it could start something positive.  Every JUCO, D2, NAIA coach I know will let a kid come to their facility in the summer, fall, or spring and practice with them if that kid has a credible coach to represent him,  also, D1 during open time. Also have your  kid, get his class rank high, his SAT or ACT scores done early and retake if necessary, check the schools academic freshman scholarship grids,  these are way more money than baseball.  In the last 5 years, more colleges have baseball programs than ever and that has opened lots of doors for more players, but with that the scholarships for baseball have decreased, meaning that academic money is #1, then baseball money and FASFA.  in the last year every college coach I sent kids to told them to get all this info turned into them asap and then they would figure baseball money, in many instances, academic was way more than baseball, and many schools only take 1 not both.

Wow! All the haters on "select /travel ball"...say what you want about it , but college after college will tell you they don't come and scout high school games because there season is going at that time! Unless your a freak throwing a 100 plus ! Being on travel team with coaches with great connections to colleges and playing in the right tournament's such as Perfect Game in Georgia or Jupiter Florida is crawling with scouts, saw it with my own eyes .  My son has already been scouted by Arkansas and has several other D1 school interested as a freshman last year due to playing in those key tournaments. I don't care what anyone says you dont get that opportunity in high school baseball ! But if your satisfied with high school ball and know your kid is not going anywhere to play after high school .  Then yes save your money and time and play locally! Good times!!!!

That dry spell wasn't just Thompson's departure.  Those were also the last years WOS was in then 4A and battling the numbers game.

I completely agree with this. Hooks was the mouth and conductor of the train but Thompson has always been the heart and soul of WOS.

WOS had a very dry spell by their standards when Thompson left the first time, this was under the Hooks reign.  Make no mistake, Thompson has been the reason for their dominance the past 30 plus years.

I kept saying that THIS team..not last year, not next year...but THIS team, THIS year, can play with ANYONE in the state. People blow off calprep predictions but YES...it has us losing to Desoto...it has us losing to Lake Travis. However, it does not have them being blown out either. We can laugh at these websites, but there are a lot more metrics in that than a few of us online giving one opinion or another. It has them beating Highland park, Temple and Steele. Some people take it as a personal attack on their intellect on the game...but we're just having the conversation and the ONLY reason I hear is WOS doesn't have the depth. At no point in history has WOS EVER had exceptional depth...NEVER. You just can't get enough kids to go through that program and stick it out.
When I got to college to play football I thought practice was a joke compared to what I had already been through. But other kids from those SAME schools mentioned above were huffin' and puffin'...and these were supposed to be studs..ON SCHOLARSHIP D1 FOOTBALL!! Those who haven't been through the WOS program don't understand one bit what it's like! if you have...then you understand just HOW special this team is because you know what those before them went through and still didn't get it done...and it's been since the 80's since they done it 3 straight years. This is a 5A team parading around like they are 4A. You don't hang 70 on an undefeated team in the semi's (21 called back) and then play the worst game you've played in 3 years and beat a 1-loss team 24-6 and the other team doesn't score an offensive TD...That game was never in doubt no matter what that score says. And from people are saying, "Sweetwater played the game of their lives!!" and still only had 148 total yards!! LOL

The only legitimate competition WO-S faced was in the state championship game. If WO-S had played in the local 5A district, I believe they would have won every game. They would not have pulled starters in some of them, but same results nonetheless. We saw glimpses of what would have been based on the game against Nederland and the scrimmages against Vidor and PNG. Concerning the loss to Richmond Foster...that wasn't just any 5A team. Foster lost to last year's state champion by only 7 points and they made it to the 5th round in this year's playoffs. They were one of the best in all of 5A for the last two seasons and would have whipped everyone in 22-5A. I'm not one to say WO-S could win 5A (or 6A, which is silly), but I do think they would at least make a strong run in the 5A playoffs and probably lose in the late rounds. The point being made about WO-S' depth would not be the reason - not THIS year. WO-S had 39 kids on the roster. Only one of them saw significant playing time on offense and defense. There were 3-4 others who played on one side and saw occasional spot duty on the other side of the ball. Depth on THIS year's team was a strength.
After watching the state championship games over the weekend, I can conclude with confidence there is no way WO-S could beat DeSoto and would get blown out by Lake Travis. They would make a competitive opponent for Highland Park and Temple. Probably lose to The Woodlands and Cibolo Steele. But, in the end, who cares. We are assigned to 4AD2 for good reason and all of this 5A conjecture is just fantasy football. A cool compliment was made by Rick Renner saying WO-S was "the best pound-for-pound high school football team in Texas." It's an honor to be thought of in that way.

He also has a Kick Return for a touchdown too. and We have another punt returner who don't see much returns anymore due to him having to block for the spread punt but Jarron Morris also has 5-6 of them as well. He's not as shift as KJ but if the first man don't bring him down it's lights out. His speed will leave you saying wow
