Steve, you constantly call me a liberal and part of the "tolerant crowd" yet Ive repeatedly stated I'm fiscally conservative and support lower taxes, less regulations and the repeal of obamacare. I've also stated obama has been a disappointment, although I do not give him ALL the blame for the current economic environment.

If you don't like being grouped with the teabaggers, then why do you keep grouping me with liberals?

Hardcore conservatives and liberals have been brainwashed by their parties into thinking that their way is the only way. The staunchest of these groups go to the point of "defending" their side's belief at all costs, no matter how good a point the other side makes. At times, it's easier to resort to insults or changing the subject than it is to actually admit that the other guy made a good point or proved you wrong, and that's a common tactic on this site from people on both sides of the argument. Another mitigating factor is the sheer number of biased opinion pieces that are being passed off as factual in an attempt to create talking points. Again, people on both sides are guilty of posting misleading articles, which usually leads to one side rallying around the talking point, and the other side proving it false rather than discussing the point, which also leads to conflict. I much prefer general topics being introduced with discussion about the issue over fake news articles that are critical of one side or the other being used to misrepresent the truth.

Yep. It is great when a warning thread turns into a shining example. 

Not so much in America, yet, but overseas there seems to always be some foreign country killing its own citizens.

Lower and middle class families spend more on consumption as a percentage of overall income than than a wealthy family.

Example, family X makes $25,000, spends $20,000 on consumer goods (excluding tax) and with an 8% consumption tax would pay $1,600 in taxes. The tax would be 6.4% of their overall income.

Now, family Y makes $1,000,000 a year and spends $200,000 on consumer goods (excluding tax) and with an 8% would pay $16,000 in taxes. The tax would be 1.6% of their overall income.

Family X pays more as a percentage but family y pays more in absolute terms.

Weird how it was never an issue until the topics were coming from the other side.

I don't believe it's in the best interests of citizens if the police have all the latest and greatest toys.

Sure, it's warranted now because of the reason for the riots. But what happens in year 2045 and the citizens want to overthrow a corrupt government?

Do you trust the government to not open fire on citizens when that day comes?

The man that relies solely on rational without considering feelings is irrational. Feelings are real and weigh heavy in reality. The what she tells me anyway. :P
