  1. wow, every post with exception of cougar14 was a bias and homer post smh lol...whelp, i will be a homer, but i will back mine up...PAM duo has been getting alot of press and is proven...the bmt boys are not in the running. niether are the MC boys... i agree with cougar14 selection. when you say COVERAGE AREA, the little teams pretty much get squashed by NS and other houston schools and yes NS is in houston...especially if you let a Brenham fan count lol

229.gif How did I get pulled into this?! Sure, my pick for best back was a homer pick, BUT I will back it up! As far as press coverage, what was it, ummmmm, oh yeah Dave Campbell's magazine had him as the 5A cover boy this year! As far as proven, he ran for 2500yds last season with 27 TDs for the State Finalist Brenham Cubs! While he does go to Brenham, I didn't say one of our RBs that had like 250yds and 0 TDs. He broke the school record for rushing yards last season that had been held since 1972! Finally, there are many on this forum that have seen him in a game (Run Earnest Run and HE GONE) and agree that he is one of the RBs in the SETX coverage area, even though it might be on the outer border of it or on the "Fringe" if you will!!

  2. I know that Brenham is on the fringe of the SETX coverage area, but we are discussed here often enough to throw our name in. Earnest Patterson has to be on any list in this area of best RBs. He is in for another monster year and with the QB back, teams will have to respect the passing game after the way he threw in the playoffs last year. That respect for the passing game should open the lanes for him even more with teams not being able to stack the box. JMO
  3. How them cubs looking?

We will need some players to step up, but like Dayton they always do. Might have some growing pains early while they are learning, but when it starts counting Coach West will have them where they need to be. Lot of speed on offense and defense as usual and having key skill players back (QB and RB) helps leadership. I think the Cubs will still be very good, how far they go depends on growth of the younger players. Playing 16 games last year will help them cause they got the extra practice and the experience of the playoffs.

  4. Yeah, it's been in rough shape for a while funny.gifnow. I grew up right off the course though so it has a certain nostalgia to me. Hey though, those high taxes just got us a big bong passed that will bring one of the nicer high schools in the area and a drastically needed upgrade to our athletic facilities. 80+ million dollars worth. Get ready for Crosby to take the next step in becoming a destination for "some" players.

Ghelyon.gif Now that's what I'm talking about! That's a heck of a recruiting tool! Ha Ha couldn't let that pass!

  5. Hey Brenham fan, did they ever catch those sorry car burglars?

No, they didn't. Aledo did a class act and raised money to help the boys out that their vehicles were broken into. Not sure how much, or how It was distributed, but I know they helped raise funds to help them out.
  6. Just curious...
Do they draw their pairings, or are they seeded due to "strength of schedule".

Students I have in class at GRHS say Hallsville has the best record and that Victoria East is from the weakest region.

I am travelling to the game Thursday.  Hope GRHS can take the openner.  GRHS has two quality pitchers which might come into play if they are fortunate enough to play for all the marbles on Friday.

Region 4 is traditionally a POWERHOUSE when it comes to baseball. CC Moody, CC Calallen come from this region and are always good along with several other teams. VE beat the then #1 CC Moody, Buda Hays, AND Schertz Clemens to get to the tournament. That is a gauntlet of top quality teams to beat. That is why I picked the winner of GR and VE to win it all based on the quality of teams they beat to get there.

  7. no doubt but to have someone say goose creek shoulda won is a little disrespectful. Brenham is always good. I know and yes yall loaded the box on GRs running game(like no one else) and they hand nothing else. the coaching staff at Brenham is phenomenal and yes 35-6 looks like flat out out coached. Not saying the kids aren't better cause its a solid squad. Pure inexperience in the playoffs means everything. most kids at Brenham think its normal. People else where don't experience deep playoff runs. GR had 0 experience in both and meet yall in the 4th round in both. I clearly don't think youre a coach cause most coaches would understand the feat it is to even go this far in the playoffs in any sport. To go undefeated in district in footballand baseball. That doesn't just happen my friend. Although I cant stand the offensive scheme or lack there of at GR I respect them cause of the talent they beat. Having Foster and Angleton in youre district is no slouch either and to just come in and take over. Brenham has experience and experience alone can send you to the 2nd round at least and add talent and youre talking about state. BTW yall have a pretty good QB tossing the rock around. Not too many teams get people just transferring in.

I have nothing but respect for Brenham but GR might surprise you.

I just want to say that yes, I fully understand the incredible sports season y'all have had. While Brenham does have more experience and there are expectations, it is never taken for granted when we are able to make a deep playoff run. It is hard to do for any team, new or old! I keep up with all sports and saw the talent GR had in both football and baseball about mid-season because of the teams they were beating. I agree with many of your points except two..... 1. You think that GR doesn't get any respect because they are new, Brenham didn't get any respect in football and we were the first public school in Texas. We were picked to lose every week in the playoffs, INCLUDING against GR!! Some respect you because of what you do and some DON'T respect you because of what you DO, it is what it is, get over it IMO! 2. Brenham will not be surprised by GR at all. Brenham expects to play a VERY good baseball team tomorrow night in the Regional finals. Surprises happen when teams expect less than what they get, we expect to play a good baseball team. It is going to be a great series and I'm excited to watch. BTW thank you for the compliment on our QB, happen to know him really well and he's a great kid(also starts on the baseball team). GO CUBS!! KKD!!
  8. George Ranch is in its 3rd year of varsity baseball(2nd year with a graduating class). I think a little respect should be shown. Brenham straight out coached GR in football and no doubt they have good baseball coaches but this isn't football. GR has some flat out talent and a great baseball coach who has already won state. they've won there way to this point, There are no coincidences in the playoffs. GR just like in football earned there spot to play in this game and to be ranked in the top 50 in the US as a 3rd year varsity squad is something you should re consider. GR all the way cause Brenham seems to have the big head in this game.

Uhhhhh.......who is not respecting GR?? Haven't heard anyone doing that so don't play that card. If I'm not mistaken everyone has WON their way to this point and you are right this isn't football! GR didn't get out coached with a final score of 35-6, it was 21-0 in the first quarter!! They got beat by a better team plain and simple and anyone that watched will say the same. So please stop with the we don't get no respect crap. I think it says a lot about both of these programs that they are meeting at the same point in 2 different sports in the playoffs. Believe me that Brenham doesn't take anyone for granted, especially not someone of GR caliber(doesn't matter how many years they have been a program or not) I think it's going to be a great series and will be fun to watch! GO CUBS!! KKD!!
  9. Dayton will get past Brenham.. Losing by only one point, last season. With the QB,RB Brenham returns. Dayton QB having more skill this season with how many returning receivers for him to throw to? Wait for it! COME ON FOOTBALL SEASON SERIOUSLY!

Brenham and Dayton never rebuild they only reload you know that! Even when several graduate others step up and play! With both teams having key skill players returning they should both be very good.
  10. I would have to say Silsbee has had the tougher strength of schedule, in the playoffs. Having faced a right handed pitcher hitting 102 mph and some wicked off speed junk, that is a potential first pick in the draft, and winning in one game. Facing the #4 ranked team and a left handed pitcher hitting 90 or so on the gun, a potential first round pick,  and winning in two games. Sending the #21 ranked team home in two games, Then winning two of three from the #9 ranked team. Yeah, I would say the Silsbee Tigers have been tried and tested in these playoffs, Now, I know for a fact we have seen better pitchers in the playoffs, and probably just as good a defenses. So, go ahead and throw that #1 ranking at us, and that twelve step baseball program, and that crap about a bigger area to get better players from. This is the Silsbee Tigers, we don't run from numbers, we just play ball. So what does all this get you at the end of the day, not a thing. You still gotta play the game to win, and we show up to play the game. Safe travels to all. Go Tigers!!!

True. For a 3A/5A school planning on being in a 5A district.

What is also true, 3A school (Tigers) stepping up their own
schedule to prepare for a 3A playoff run. Was their schedule not legit for a 3A team?

Still, that being said, can not ignore the fact of strength of schedule. These young men love a challenge. Whats to lose?

Can we just agree that both are very good teams, who have both played tough schedules, both are talented, and it will be a great game? And please quit with the whole, they are a 5A team playing 3A. No, they opened a couple years ago as a 3A and are MOVING up to a 5A(old 4A) because they will have all 4 grades for the first time. They get it handed to them in all other sports, but because they are good in baseball it's a problem? Honestly, IMO, baseball is the one sport that any classification can play with another. Take several of the past 2A State champions and they ALL played preseason 5A tournaments and competed just fine. Pitching is the great equalizer and when you have it, regardless of classification, you can compete. Larger schools may/do have more depth, but best 9 on best 9, no, it doesn't make that big of difference when you have pitching. If Brenham was not playing Thursday, this is the game I would pay money to see because I feel it will be a great one. Two teams, playing great baseball in the playoffs?? Doesn't get any better!!
