  1. Hurricane Carla was the last time Port Lavaca has had to board up its windows for a Major storm. Well, looks like Lowes (walmarts all out of wood and basketball gear already ) on Hwy 35 better stock up on plenty of lumber cause there's a Red Storm a brewin' in Crosby that's about to hit San Antinio. After several hours of watching tape on my Beta machine, I've come to the conclusion that Port Lavaca will run right into the teeth of our defense and this game gets ugly quick. If I were a betting man I'd have to lay the small mortgage on my time share Condo in Port Neches on the Coogs by double digits!!

I think Crosby wins, but don't think it will be by double digits. PLC is a very good team, don't let the record fool you, they have a very tough district. If y'all overwhelm them with your speed like we did last year, then yall will win. Turning point in our game with them last year was the two TOs rt before half returned for TDs that blew the game open. They are weak against the pass on defense, but that offense is tougher to stop than you think because they run it so well.
  2. Agree you have to fit the talent you have. However, one dimentional teams usually don't fare well because once a good playoff team takes away their strength, they are toast. Lower classifications maybe, but not 5 and 6A. Even then you don't see teams that just do one, they may be heavy one or the other, but have the ability to do both when forced to. Most teams are spread in the formation sense only, but run the ball out of it to create open space for the RBs. Example: Brenham, spread formation, but have a 2000 yd RB s d 2000 yd QB passing. Spread formation, but balanced out of it, just try to create space for athletes.
  3. Don't stop believing is by far one of the worst songs ever recorded but appropriate in Daytons situation cause it's gonna be a long hard JOURNEY for them to even sniff the playoffs. Maybe you and Brenham should get together and have some of that hallucinogenic blue bell he's eating cause both y'all dreaming after beating two of the worst teams in the state of Texas....go KWPARK/Humble/Open!!

What?? Where did that come from?297.gif By the way, Hallucinogenic is a new Blue Bell flavor and it's awesome! The things I see after smoking a scoop.....Ghelyon.gif

    1. "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey is one of the worst songs ever recorded? You are out of your........waitvahidrk.gif...... that doesn't even warrant a response!

    2. Beat 2 of the worst teams in the state? I can't speak about GP as I have not seen them, but Mag West is not even close! They averaged over 550yds and 50 pts a game before last Friday night! Brenham held them to around 350yds and 28pts, till a last minute garbage time TD to make it 35pts when the game was over. Brenham's offense had 550yds(even rushing/passing) and 56pts! If GP is so terrible, which again I really don't know, then Dayton took care of business and did what they were supposed too. I don't care how bad a team is, but if you score 40+ and shut them out, then that's a pretty good game, especially now a days with high scoring offenses!popcorn.gif

    3. :P

  4. It appears that the Dayton Broncos and Brenham Cubs have found there stride again. Brenham has a big game this week against Stratford in what should be an excellent game. This game could decide the district Champion, but Waller has played well and sits at 5-0. Dayton has a big one this week as well with a sneaky tough Kingwood Park team. KP 3 losses were to good teams and played a good Crosby team close. I expect both the Broncos and Cubs to emerge with a W and possibly another matchup in the playoffs with one of us ACTUALLY breaking the curse of the winner losing the State game!

  5. The Cubs will be OK. They are a young team, but Coach West will get them playing at the right time. Liberty Hill executed well against us and the Slot T is hard to stop for anyone, especially a young defense. Still finding the right personnel for the right spots. Found a go-to WR the other night for our QB so that should help open up the running game. Have a lot of good players that are still learning, but they will be there in the end.

  6. Yeah, funny how that happened! Never heard from TC fans again, but if you ever want some entertaining reading check out texas 4a sports forum and read the PLC fans responses! They claim that they beat Cedar Park 1 out of 10 times even though they only beat them by 1pt. However, they claim they would have beaten Brenham 5 out of 10 times because they gave that game to us , even though we whooped their arses! 56-21 and could/should have been worse! They are some of the most delusional fans I have come across. At least the TC fans left and never spoke again!!

Sorry, I know this is a Dayton thread, but wanted to say that to MBG!
  7. the Tx City and Port Lavaca folks never cameback on.

  8. Dayton's local newspaper hit a all time low on its coverage of the Broncos. There was about a 2inch by 2inch article on the football game. There was one little picture and about 50 words. It was a joke. Seems like they have no problem covering other teams and sports. Win or lose dayton football should get a little coverage if not it's not even worth looking at.

That's sad because that was Brenham's toughest game in the playoffs leading up to the state game. Found their fans to be supportive of their team, but gracious in defeat. Seems to be a friendly rivalry between us. Got a chance to talk to McBride and some other Broncos at a photo shoot for the Vype Magazine in which my son and other Cubs were invited to. While there was some good ribbing about losing by 1pt, I was impressed at how they gave our boys credit for winning and going to state(not that way with a lot of teams or fans on here, anybody ever here from TCStings2 after we beat TC? ) Sorry, back on topic, whether they win or get blown out, the local paper deserves to give them coverage because they represent the whole community. That's always impressed me about Brenham's paper and radio station. Win or Lose, they cover the Cubs and make the boys feel appreciated by the community! I'll say this, I hope my son and the Cubs can make another run, but if they don't and Dayton goes farther than the Cubs, I'll be cheering them on after meeting some of their fans and kids! Go Cubs!!
  9. i know this is an old topic, but i get tired of people saying there is no winner in a scrimmage. BULLCRAP!!! anytime some type score is kept, there is a winner and a loser. if a full game scrimmage is played, team A scored 5 times and made extra points, that's 35 and team B scored twice and made xp, that's 14. winner and loser. now, it doesn't mean anything. doesn't mean you are going to win state and it doesn't mean you will suck. it shows where you need to polish and see who's better at what position. depending on the scrimmage, if it's a full game, i look at it like a NFL preseason game. you have full contact, with refs, game clock. doesn't count, but it's a WINNER and a LOSER. try telling some of those kids that they didn't "win" a scrimmage when they cleary scored more and dominated. if anything, it might build confidence in a young qb or a skill position player on varsity for the first time. these scrimmages count!! just not in the books.

finding it funny as we get closer to game time, people are using scrimmages as measuring sticks smh lol

Smdh... that you started this thread about "scrimmages", c'mon man, "scrimmages"! Winners/losers, who cares!! Want to talk about how players look, strong areas of teams, weak areas of team, OK, but winners/losers, it's a scrimmage!! Smdh twice!!
  10. dayton doesn't scrimmage with coaches on the field. They have game like scrimmages with kickoffs punts penalties and yes a scoreboard game clock and 4 full quarters. The only difference I see between our scrimmages and a real game is the punts and kickoffs are not returned. Having said all that nobody wins a scrimmage even though it is odd to keep a scoreboard.

This is definitely an exception then, not the rule. Either way scrimmages are controlled in some way to maximize practice and minimize injuries.
  11. Everybody leave mightymouse alone! His team is obviously 1-0! Of course there are winners and losers at scrimmage, c'mon man! I mean it's just like a real game you know, with the coaches and other players standing right BEHIND the offense, and the whistle being blown BEFORE your QB gets blown up by a missed blocking assignment, OR the offense running 20-25 plays in a row regardless of a first down or not, OR the penalties get called but the not marked off you just move on to the next play, I mean that's just like the real thing!! Even the 'LIVE" periods are controlled to allow maximum practice to take place. Brenham scrimmaged Manvel yesterday and there were some good things and some bad things. Manvel "outscored" us 4-1 if you are keeping score at home (and obviously mightymouse is). We have kids playing new positions, some young kids getting first exposure, trying new plays, etc..... I don't know any coaches that are worth anything that look at scrimmages as a win/lose, but rather as an intense practice. That way you can see EXACTLY where your trouble spots are and correct them. Same thing happened last year with Brenham when we scrimmaged Manvel and if I'm not mistaken Coach West got his team ready for the season, but what do I know, Brenham 0-1 I guess!
  12. Dayton 2014 WR'S will give any secondary/defensive special teams(kick/punt ret) trouble=K.McBride,J.Keener,L.Rhone + I.Chambers(foot injury 2013,in 2012(fresh yr)had 20 catches=456 yds=23 per catch=7 tds.Added plus S.Long (former fresh qb,varsity defensive back(3 ints) switched to rb/wr**Broncos are stacked deep w/speed/depth.There will be some season offensive records made in 2014 ;)

    Agree with this completely!!

  13. Some people have a hard time differentiating "best" from "mediocre". Same way some can't be objective when looking at the home team. IMO running backs along with corners are the easiest position to grade/project, the good ones separate themselves early.

*I didn't throw Patterson in because of how the topic was worded. His size will probably keep him from being an FBS back but he's definitely worth discussion. I don't think he even started at the beginning of the season and still put those numbers up. If I had to guess though I would expect that he has more carries and yards than any of the above mentioned, probably 300 carries for around 2500 again depending on how many games the Cubs play.

Agree that unfortunately his size will hurt him with colleges, but he would be a steal for whoever looks at what he has done against some of the best teams in the state!
