  1. In the controlled portion, HJ scored twice GCM did not score. In the live portion GCM scored once, HJ did not score. GCM has some work to do but I think they have some pieces in place to make some improvements. Their offense should be more balanced this year. The defense can be solid. Not expecting any miracles but I believe they can be a little more competitive this year. This week's game against PAM will tell us more, it got ugly real quick last year. If we compete better this year, we'll know we've made some strides.

  2. There have been rumors about rezoning the Baytown schools. If they do I'm not sure how it will pan out, but I believe they are aiming to move more kids into Lee's zone. As a GCM parent I would hope any rezoning would move us back down to the 5A level where we wouldn't have to play Northshore and Atascocita.

Maybe not currently.  But I can promise you that BH has that appeal.  And if not many current athletes then how many move-ins or work transfer parents chose BH instead of GCM before even enrolling?  And how many times will it happen in the future?

BH girl's basketball has a player that grew up in Crosby that's now in BH.  Only reason I know that is because she is like 6'5 or something crazy and committed to UConn.  Why didn't she end up in a Baytown school?  I think we both know why.  And I think that exact reason is why GCCISD will not get any athletes of that caliber (boys or girls) or could possibly lose any great athletes they currently have.  And why they will continue to be the type of school where coaches go to benefit their retirement.  You guys desperately need for Sterling and/or GCM to be 5A.

You're right, BH does have a lot of appeal for their athletic programs now. But that hasn't always been the case. What happens if the new football coach isn't  as successful as expected?  Things can change quickly. You also have to consider that Baytown is still growing alot in the Goose Creek Memorial zone, ExxonMobil and Chevron are expanding and hiring, and the cost of housing in Baytown is cheaper than Mont Belvieu. I think the Baytown schools can be competitive again. But until then I think they need to rezone so that GCM drops back to 5A and Lee sees some growth. But only if we can play in a local district and not have to drive to the Golden Triangle every week.

That area, all the way to I-10, is in Baytown City limits. I do not see it happening. I have lived in the area for over 50 years and have never heard a move for this to become BHISD zone.

Actually, I believe all the neighborhoods past the railroad bridge are not in the city limits. Also BHISD begins at Needlepoint Rd.

I've heard two different versions of this. One being it would involve everything located in Chambers County( some of which is within Baytown City limits) The other would just involve the area in Chambers outside of the city limits.

  5. A quick question for the Mont Belvieu folks. About once or twice a year, for the past 4 or 5 years somebody will tell me that they heard that the Baytown neighborhoods on N. hwy 146 in Chambers County will soon be zoned to the Barbers Hill School district or its being discussed. Now, I've never put much stock in that. There's never any concrete information and I just don't see GCCISD willingly giving up any tax base. But I keep hearing it from time to time. Do any of you Barbers Hill folks every hear this?

  6. Losing alot of seniors but only a few of them were contributers. Will still have alot of talent coming back. The JV underperformed like the Varsity but have a few that will slide right in with no drop off. I feel they'll have a better season next year. You have a strong core of juniors and sophomores that played travel ball together on and off over the years. I think they'll mesh better than this year's group did. I heard that there was discord between the seniors and the underclassmen this year.

  7. Got one boy playing JV and one on the soph team so I don't get to see the Varsity games. Not many here following our district either. That being said, maybe we need to recruit more baseball parents to the board. In fact, I'd like to see Baytown represented a little better here in all sports.

My only explanation would be this: Westerberg likes BIG SHINY things!  At Allen, he'd have gladly taken taken a game at AT&T even if it meant playing an Arlington team there. So why would he settle for a puny high school stadium when he can stand on the grand stage of a college stadium (yes, I know it as not that grand of a stage, but indulge me)?  This coupled with the fact that it also well known that the Barbers Hill super also has a case of the silver spoon syndrome may account for this.

Puny? Lamar's stadium seats 16,000. Stallworth seats 16,500. Granted I'm sure Lamar's stadium is much shiner with a ton more amenities,  but being puny is not a problem with Stallworth.

Just my opinion, Baytown Lee isn't making the playoffs this year or next year.  Reserve Stallworth stadium for the next 2 years for the 1st round.  It's the most neutral place, that has turf and both bleachers are the same size. Play one game on Friday.  Play the other 3 on Saturday at 12, 4 and 8.  Put the 21-5A teams and fans on the West side and put the 22-5A teams and fans on the East side and lets settle

School Board issued discipline on Corbett and Modeste.  They are suspended from play till the North Shore Game 9/22.

Looking forward to THE GAME Friday night.

    GO RANGERS !!!!

Are you hearing this from an official source.  I heard (not officially) that GCM's Spencer was out for the season and Corbett and Modest were as well. I asked my son if Spencer was at practice  yesterday and he said no. Just curious if we're getting our player back as well.

  11. I'm hoping for a close exciting game so it will encourage some of the 16000 to attend more football games. I'm sure a majority of them haven't been to one in years. All three Baytown schools deserve more support from their community. I would also like to see GCCISD do more to promote the high school football games and increase attendance. Weekly right ups in the local paper just don't do it anymore as a lot of people stopped reading newspapers a long time ago.
