Man, first time I've ever been called out by a pipe fitter on comprehension skills. We have seen what Riordan looks like with all of the best D-1 players on the field, he hasn't lost the last three years when that's been the case, 34-5 to be exact. Here's what BH will do this offseason, it's a normal athletic improvement course for about an hour a day that most decent teams partake in. Crosby, George Ranch, Westfield, Katy, North Shore, etc. all do programs like this. My point is that you're highlighting something that has become standard operating practices around the state, BH is being brought up to speed instead of being the outlier like Dayton obviously is now. You can look at it as betting, I look at it as a possible improvement to the site based of predicted team performance which is mostly what the site it about. Neither of us gain anything from it but it does show how fervent we are in our beliefs. If it's against your religion then it's a moot point and I'm sorry for even bringing it up, too bad you don't get to play fantasy football or anything else of the sort though.

Big congrats to Clayton Callicutt (DE) from Crosby for being selected in the 8th round by the Chicago Bears. UFA's have a hard time making the squad but maybe he can follow in Chance Casey's footsteps and eventually get some run somewhere. Clayton left Angelo State as the all-time sack leader to go with multiple of other conference and national awards. Proud to see him rewarded for his grind and it just goes to show that if you can play they'll find you no matter where you are. [Hidden Content]

Most of the decent teams in the DFW all go through the clinic you're talking about. We do Edge in the offseason at Crosby which is the same thing, other teams call it different things other places. Obviously y'all don't do anything like that in Dayton or you would know that. I don't know where you got the stud QB thing from, which is exactly why I asked the question in the Spring Game thread? It's not about stepping up to the plate empty-handed, Westeberg got about a $35k raise to come coach at BH and be the AD. No doubt he thinks he can win at BH, but remember Gage also had two 6A titles when he came. He has an opportunity to boost his retirement just like Price and Gage did, so he took it. When he was the OC at Garland and he won a title he had top tier talent, same for being the head coach at Allen. Do you not think Allen won't be just as good without him? See Euless Trinity, Cedar Park and Aledo who didn't lose a beat when their great coaches left. Think about it, before this last year every QB he coached at Allen went to what is currently a Big 12 school or an SEC school. Last year Seth Greene, who was already committed to Oregon when he transferred, was the only kid not to play in one of those conferences. He chose to play for Minnesota instead. Let's see how he looks when he doesn't have the best players on the field, I think Riordan is going to eat his lunch.

Lol, Dayton will be doing well to make the playoffs 2016. Nations isn't walking into a situation like Riordan where you have 5000+ yards of offense in your backfield and an all-state receiver on the outside. Dayton and KP have similar talent levels and Maple went 2-8 his first year at the helm in 21-5A, that's coming from another head coaching job whereas Nations hasn't called a play in a game in 5 years. If you're confident we can always make a friendly wager though? Dayton wins district and I'll donate $250 to the site, if they don't win district you donate $250 to the site. I'll even give you an out, if Dayton doesn't win district but PNG does we still push. Deal?

Kingwood Park is the team that I think would give Crosby trouble next year. BH is switching to a more wide open offense but is running an athletic deficit right now. Crosby has trouble with teams that pound it on us like Ridge Point, Cedar Park, Elgin and King. When Dayton was consistently beating Crosby they used to pound it on us too, even BH had some success in the first half running it on us last year. I think Riordan has shown enough to be able to make the statement, that if you don't have high level talent that you won't beat Crosby. It's very difficult to out-scheme Crosby on either side of the ball which is what BH would have to do to win right now. Other than Elgin which had the Simmons brothers, who were probably the best backfield in Central Texas that year, everybody that has beaten Crosby the last three or four years has at least 3 and 4 star players on the roster. That's what it takes to win at the top of 5A now, Crosby has more of that than any 5A school in the coverage area except for maybe PAM. Unless we lost to Reagan or Manvel which are good possibilities, Crosby probably wins their second consecutive undefeated district championship.
-
Lol, almost as good as the one where you said Dayton would win by 3tds and lost. I still need to collect my dinner on that one too.
-
Mannie Netherly, committed to A&M to play receiver but depending on who you ask he probably could've been the guy last year. With Williams and Grace back there I would think that it should be the fastest backfield in 5A next year.
-
Who's playing quarterback for BH next year? One of the freshman qbs that will be a sophomore next year or the baseball kid that will be a senior but hasn't played since he was a freshman? Someone else? Whoever it is will probably have a rough adjustment period once district starts, BH plays Vidor which doesn't get you ready for anybody else and Santa Fe before lining it up with Crosby to start district for the 5th year in a row.
-
That's good for Dayton. Kids always get motivated when they see those college logos on recruiter's shirts when they walk into the field house. As far as the "what if . . . " question it was more geared towards the reassurance you've given us that Nations is a better coach than Hancock. I think Crosby has a better than good chance of beating Dayton the next 9 years in a row anyway though, we probably only have six more years to play in district before Crosby moves to 6A. I think Crosby having better coaches, better players, better support, better facilities, a bigger enrollment and more resources in general is going to be too much for Dayton to deal with in the coming future. I think these next three years Crosby wins by an average of about 20ppg.

Crosby Recruiting Coordinator/OC
Cougar14.2 replied to dillonpanthers's topic in High School Football
Mann used to do it all, handled the recruiting across all sports and the college/career advising. Rio2 is Riordan's younger brother and the receivers coach. Ro2 is the kicking/special teams coach. Ro2 is handling some of the current football recruiting but he also tweets about our former football players too. Coach Nash actually has what Mann's official title was though. It's hard to replace coach Mann with one person, but with a new defensive coordinator and the hiring of coach Nash as the "offensive coordinator" the staff may be stronger in general. Guess we'll have to wait until August to find out though. -
I remember you sais that last year too. Then those big boys up front could only get Styner 45 rushing yards while Dayton averaged less than 3ypc as a team. I played golf with a Dayton admin the other day and let's just say, you're a lot more optimistic than he was/is. Paraphrasing it was relayed that Dayton "doesn't have anymore Cody Green's or AJ Dugat's walking the halls." It's interesting you think Nations will make that much of a difference, all the kids' parents I've talked to said everything looks the same except for more kids playing. I hope Dayton does improve for next year, no way y'all should've lost to PNG with that squad they put on the field. My question is what do you do if Nations gets there and produces the exact same results as Hancock, or misses the playoffs his first year?

Craig Williams is probably the fastest 100m sprinter in the SETX coverage area. He ran a 10.34 FAT 100m, 4.36 electronic 40yd. If those were hand times he would have probably gone 10-flat in the 100m and about 4.25 in the 40yd. Arnold is a burner for sure, but like you said, it will all be handled at regionals.

Crosby Recruiting Coordinator/OC
Cougar14.2 replied to dillonpanthers's topic in High School Football
Crosby's new "offensive coordinator" is a guy named Marvin Nash who came from Denton Guyer. Coach Mann didn't have to teach class when he held the position but Rio2 is like the advanced Calculus teacher or something. Not sure if he will continue to teach, coach receivers AND be the recruiting coordinator also or move fully into the role coach Mann held. We got a good one with coach Nash though, he's been around high level talent at Guyer and should be able to add value to the offensive coaching staff. He's probably the new Mann as far as being able to connect with players. -
Agreed. Some people were bigger fans than others but I don't think it's an overstatement to say his skill set was elite. Crosby will rebound and has already started the process of filling the recruiting coordinator position, Coach Mann will certainly land on his feet somewhere else.

Coug, that's why none of us other Crosby posters answered. Just let them speculate. There was no way the thread wouldn't go off on some insignificant tangent like the "Holy Mecca" comment. We all know the deal and how this works when Crosby's involved. All we can do is keep busting arse from the state line back to I-45.

Classy move by Southeast Texas HS Coach's Association
Cougar14.2 replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
Glad to see that happen for coach Peveto, probably the most straight-up recruiter I dealt with. Still remember him rolling up on a golf cart at the UH camp and offering me mosquito spay and a scholarship to play corner. Really wished it would've worked out for him as a head coach but he's probably making more as an SEC assistant anyway. -
Interesting to see what the violation(s) were actually for. Not good that he's involved in more controversy but on the bright side the university itself looks like they will file appeal on his behalf. Initially you would think it's the reception of improper benefits but I don't think Tony would be getting that type of "love" after how he's performed on the field to date. My guess would be something to do with PEDs or taking something on the ban list for which appeals are common. I also think it says a lot about Tony's perceived talent level for Saban not to have kicked him off the team for whatever this latest infraction is for. Good luck to him though, I think he has first round ability if he could just put one solid season together.

Silsbee hires Cypress Ranch OC Randy Smith
Cougar14.2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
Their go to receiver was a beast last year and holds multiple SEC offers, he only had 34 catches and they played 12 or 13 games. Look at a kid named Collin Rock's hudl film and you'll kind of see how they've operated the last couple of years. -
DC Hire at BH - Danny Cowgill from AL
Cougar14.2 replied to bleedblue's topic in High School Football
I probably stated it the wrong way calling it property tax trying to post before a meeting. My co-worker just bought a house in BH for $260k a couple of years ago, he had the same price house in Baytown but pays about $600 per month in BH. My buddy has a son the same age as mine and express how BH is becoming more diverse all the time. I could care less how diverse BH is or gets, in relation to Moss' comment I just said don't necessarily expect the percentages in athletic diversity to change just because growth and gave DP as a example. You're talking like I'm hating on BH or have a problem with it, BH has had a hard time on the field with the better teams athletically and people were discussing it from two different view points. Crosby is far from an inner city school although you probably couldn't tell at rush hour, we have regular suburban demographics for Texas. As far as BH competing, we get y'all right out of the box to start district play for the 5th straight year so we'll find out early. Appreciate that about the stadium, we finally have an administration that supports Crosby winning. -
Silsbee hires Cypress Ranch OC Randy Smith
Cougar14.2 replied to AggiesAreWe's topic in High School Football
If I were to say I thought this was the best hire of the offseason BH fans would say I was hating, but oh well. First and foremost I like this hire because he comes from a program where they run the ball and play stiff defense. Matter of fact they're pretty run heavy, I think the year Cy Ranch went to the finals their qb had the same number of passing and rushing attempts if I remember right. They averaged something like 55 or 60 rushing attempts per game that year. The second reason I like the hire is because even though he drops down from what's probably the second highest enrollment district in Texas, his talent was about middle of the road comparable to the rest of 9 teams. Yet, he was still able to manufacture points against what I think is the best collection of district coaches in the Houston area. Cy Ranch is a new school but I've always said that if you can win the Cypress district you have to be considered a title contender and he's coming off a team that's done it twice in a row. I think he's going to grind most teams into the ground with Silsbee's talent. My only concern is that he had this success with one of the saltiest defenses in the state the last couple of years backing him up and I know Silsbee's has struggled recently in that area. -

False things like what? Your district is 2.6% black, Crosby ISD is closer to 20%. The "inclusive" thing comes from a BH transfer that would have been a stud but is now at Crosby. I don't think you necessarily need diversity to win, my comment was about why BH won't get more diverse. My comment on Moss' "flavor" remark which highlighted Deer Park was about how BH currently mirrors them on a much smaller scale. I can also tell you what a BH transfer from Crosby relayed but it's unnecessary. If we buy the same house and yours cost 100K more at comparable tax rates, which Crosby and BH are, who pays the higher mortgage if financed at the same rate? As far as the homegrown thing, there are also more move ins than homegrown people in Houston proper 4 million population too. That's normal in a growing area. I'm just explaining why 90% look like you. You just said yourself "Academics is what gets most kids moving here no matter their color." That's also the case in Deer Park so thank you for making my point for me. We're on a football website talking about programs winning and losing football games, unfortunately Crosby, North Shore and Atascosita don't get academic transfers unless they're moving from the inner city usually. They do win football games though. -
Foster played a state champ and beat them by 28. Then they played King and won by only 14 with a hurt Trey Williams after we beat them by almost 40. Fact of the matter is that nobody outside of SETX thinks that's a game even worth playing. In non-district Crosby played Ned who made it to the second round and Angleton who made it to the regional final, they won those games a combined 69-18. Do you think we would get more out of playing WOS than Manvel who signed 12 D1 kids last year? Do you think WOS can put anything on the field to compare to Derrick Tucker, Alfred Bryant or Jalen Preston who we might have to see again in the second round if Crosby goes D1? I'm not even including the D1 running back and other receiver they have. You're not going to beat Crosby with coaching, heart or by playing "good team ball". You better have Terry Petry locking people down, Mustafa Muhummad running drags and Travis Bruffy paving the way or you'll be searching for moral victories by "playing close". You don't think the 6A size and speed Reagan will put on the field will do more for us than playing a 4A-D2 squad who said his team looked like the circus dropped the off? We can no longer play games in non-district where the response to the outcome it "well, you should've won". As far as playing a state champ, there's a very good chance Manvel will win a 5A title the two years they're in the class. They'll probably be preseason #2 in the state behind Cedar Park.

DC Hire at BH - Danny Cowgill from AL
Cougar14.2 replied to bleedblue's topic in High School Football
I think the south side of I-10 is where the majority of BH's athletes will come from. We can talk about the area growing but all you have to do is take a look down the road at 4000+ enrollment Deer Park to tell you can still run a deficit even with more kids to choose from. Unless you're from BH or the surrounding area they'll still have a hard time attracting people like me with three young sons who are all good athletes because the same house that's $250k+ is about $160K in North Shore, Baytown, Liberty Lakes, Crosby, Atascosita, etc. Not to mention the high property tax they pay out there. Those places are also a lot more "inclusive/receptive" to different people moving in. At the end of the day I don't you'll ever get the diversity in BH because there are too many factors that work against it, I do agree that they'll improve because of the coaching and simply having more kids to choose from as the area grows though. -

George Ranch ran the ball 53 time in the state title game and threw it 6 times. When we lost to Cedar Park a couple of years ago in the semis, they ran it 48 times and threw it 4. When we los to #6 Elgin the year before that they ran it 73 times and threw it 8. It can be done if you have the players to do it. It's not 1987 but the same principles still apply, you're probably going to be the most successful if you run the ball and play defense like Cedar Park, George Ranch, Katy, etc.
