If a team is a Wing-T/Run Oriented offense then they aren't going to all of the sudden start passing during the season anyway. And like I said...7 on 7 will not prepare you for when people can actually tackle. Or when you have to make quick decisions on a pass because you're depending on 5 lineman to block. "Practicing" in a situation when you can sit back and quarterback...relaxed...not worried about being blind sided by a blitzing linebacker is a lot different than actually taking a snap and then spending the next 3-4 seconds running for your life just hoping to get rid of the ball before getting a concussion. 7 on 7 is pointless. It's really no different than playing "2 below" in the back yard with 8 neighbor kids.
-
Going to state in 7 on 7 means that...wait...never mind. It doesn't mean anything. Big difference when you add a few people and everybody has pads and helmets on.
-
It's impossible to stop. As long as there are apartment complexes and rent houses, it's impossible to keep a kid from moving from 1 school district into another with their parents. And the only proof you need is bases on a "he said/she said" type reason. Got a new job, found a better place of residence, got evicted, WHATEVER the reason. You can't stop it. The only possibile way to stop it is to make students sit a year no matter what the reason. But that will never happen.
-
Those pads and helmets are the equalizer. Don't put a lot of stock into what happens in 7 on 7...when nobody has to block or tackle. Just saying.

WOS vs Sabine Pass. Let's make it happen.

HF BASEBALL COACH/Jeremy Seymour named Head Coach
oldschool2 replied to Horns89's topic in High School Baseball
That sounds good and all...but none of that matters if he isn't successful. He could be the best baseball coach in all of Texas and teach them how to be fine upstanding citizens, but in the end if they don't put wins on the record then he won't last long either. Just like so many before him. -
You don't like state championships? lol

HF BASEBALL COACH/Jeremy Seymour named Head Coach
oldschool2 replied to Horns89's topic in High School Baseball
That's exactly what it's about. In fact, it's about HF getting a new baseball coach. I just mentioned that this is a cycle that will continue for quite sometime. Because HF (for years to come) will be that one school...that had a police investigation on the AD because of "excessive running". An endevor brought on by parents and board members. And now here we are...needing a new baseball coach after 1 year. It's relevant. -

No matter what you say, if the "excessive" running/punishment would've truly been the cause of any of the athlete's to be in real danger, then the investigation would've resulted in some kind of negative consequence. And it didn't. That's really all that matters. If the coach would've truly been the reason the kids ended up in the hospital this would've been national news. And he likely would never coach again...minimum. Not to mention charges being brought on him. And yes..by the way..I know about compartment syndrome as well. Common after INJURIES. Almost 75% of the time it happens after a fracture or broken bone. Come to think of it...please tell me they weren't under the care of a hospital in Beaumont... If that's the case then ALL credibility is gone. I wouldn't walk into a hospital in Beaumont to ask for directions based on the stories I've heard from first hand experiences. -

Are you talking about rhabdomyolsis? Because...yeah.. Maybe you should look at the symptoms. Based on everything I've ever read or heard about that "disease"... I've had it, several ex teammates have had it, my kids had it, their friends had it, ...yep. Pretty much all the athletes I've ever known have had things like: abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, fever, rapid heart rate, confusion, ... oh, the horror. If you think back far enough..you'll probably find that you also had the symptoms of rhabdomyolsis. Maybe your coach should've been investigated too! But no worries. According to the CDC rhabdomyolsis is completely reversible and you can expect a full recovery with prompt treatment. And by treatment they mean being admitted to the hospital and recieving "Treatment with intravenous (IV) fluids." Now why would that help?...maybe because people that get that horrible disease are dehydrated and/or malnutritioned... hmm..now that's a thinker. Sounds like a pretty good excuse to charge someone a few days stay at the hospital to me. And by the way: " What causes dark urine? Ideally, your urine would be a pale yellow color. ... Dark urine is most commonly due to dehydration. " -

That's the part I wasn't sure about. And yeah I know about it. I also know that no charges were filed and the coach wasn't prevented from coaching after. Which in some ways destroys any credibility YOUR argument had. And that "rare" disease from excessive working out is just a made up thing for doctors and Big Pharma to make more money. Not a single symptom related to that "disease" is any different than any single athlete on the face of the planet (during any era) hasn't experienced when dehydrated, out of shape, malnutritioned, or sleep deprived. So.. Anyway. HF is looking for a new baseball coach. Shocker. The last coach was a good one..but is leaving? Shocker. -

I know people that live in the community and I know people from that town. I know more about it than you think. And to be honest I have no idea what you're referring to by saying "when I was a kid...". I just HF has had good coaches in the past...and blame them in a bad way when their kids don't succeed. There's one common denominator every single time. And it's HF players and/or parents. Maybe stop looking so hard at the coach. Just a thought. -

HF has had good coaching. And HF has had chances to keep good coaches. So far they've all been ruined. Seems to me that there was a pretty good baseball coach there this last year...yet some seem happy to see him go? Alright. Be careful because most of the time you get what you ask for. -

Well for starters.. there's already been posts on here saying that someone thinking the previous coach was a great coach and even better person was "overrated". So that's just one minute detail. Which.. whatever I guess. But "what drama?"...with HF?... When is there not drama. It seems to me that the parents are continuously looking for a reason in which the coach of...whatever...is a terrible coach. With the exception at looking at the obvious. Maybe the kids are not any good. Relative to their competition I mean...and especially relative to what the fans/parents think. And I'm sorry but having a police investigation on your prior football coach for "excessive running" is without a doubt the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard concerning sports. Ever. I'll never be able to look past that when HF comes to mind. If 30 years from now, lord willing, I'm still here and thinking ok that will still be in my mind. "Let me tell you what happened at that school one time.." I can tell you that in the short time I've been posting and reading on this site I can confidently say: Hamshire Fannette, you DO NOT DESERVE a good coach. -
I'm not making fun of anyone.. When I read the long post there wasn't any implication that the poster was talking about his own kid. Then it seemed to me that BD called him out by in fact bringing to light that it was his own kid. I thought it was hilarious. Hence the picture. I still am not seeing anywhere that is says he was actually talking about his own son...now you all are just assuming it is. Making it even funnier to me. You know...like he's trying to defend his son (or himself) without actually saying that it's actually his son (or himself). That's what's so funny.

Uh oh. Did the other coach make the kids run too many triangles and get arrested? (I just had to) -
I definitely see another really deep run. Another trip to Dallas is probable...as their region is a joke. But another SC? Yet to be determined. Never know how good Reg 2 will be.

Good luck. That overall record is about to take a hit though.

TIM FINN NAMED NEW HEAD COACH AT BAYTOWN LEE
oldschool2 replied to Peppermint Patty's topic in High School Football
Maybe not currently. But I can promise you that BH has that appeal. And if not many current athletes then how many move-ins or work transfer parents chose BH instead of GCM before even enrolling? And how many times will it happen in the future? BH girl's basketball has a player that grew up in Crosby that's now in BH. Only reason I know that is because she is like 6'5 or something crazy and committed to UConn. Why didn't she end up in a Baytown school? I think we both know why. And I think that exact reason is why GCCISD will not get any athletes of that caliber (boys or girls) or could possibly lose any great athletes they currently have. And why they will continue to be the type of school where coaches go to benefit their retirement. You guys desperately need for Sterling and/or GCM to be 5A. -

There it is ^. And to be honest the last time the school had a coach there that was successful the conditions were a lot different. Like I said earlier...what talent there is is spread between 3 pretty big high schools. That isn't good. Plus factor in that at the drop of a hat a parent could take their kid right down 10 to BH where they're relatively competitive, have fantastic facilities, and is top tier academically. Baytown is in a bind when it comes to athletics. Plain and simple. I don't see anything changing anytime soon. -

I would think that it's a double edged sword. Will probably go with the applicant with the best looking resume. Someone with a lot of experience winning or maybe even someone with a reputation of (on paper) turning programs into a positive direction. The flip side to that is you take a chance on someone towards the end of their career. A lot of times it takes time to amass an impressive resume. Especially in the coaching world. Unfortunately, the GCM schools fit the mold of the type of school condusive to build someone's retirement. They have never been successful. Baytown is split into 3 pretty big high schools...none of which have a reputation of being recently successful. And..it's impossible to know if someone is coming there for intentions of riding it out or boosting their salary average. Even if they're in year 10-15 they could still base their salary off of a couple years at GCM. Baytown schools are in a bind. Only thing you have going for you is the fact that it's a competitive/attractive payscale. Otherwise you wouldn't even get a lot of applicants. Just take it for what it is. -

Do you blame him? I don't. That's exactly how this business and every other business works. I would venture to say that in whatever profession you do your priorities will or did also shift towards putting yourself in the best position (monetarily) possible. -
