If Silsbee comes back to Whataburger to defend their title, there's a chance they could meet there.

Here are my thoughts on Silsbee/Bridgeport right now.  Keep in mind that I'm a Bport homer and only saw Silsbee one time.  It looks like Silsbee thrives on pressure defense and a fast pace.  Silsbee is stacked with great athletes with good skill sets.  The problem with relying on super high pressure defense is that it's really successful against less skilled teams, but great teams will cut it up and score easily.  That's what you saw in the state final game.  Once Sterling got behind and had to try and press, it was over.  Bridgeport just went into fun-mode and tore it up.  Silsbee will not beat us based on their defense.  On the other side, Bridgeport plays phenomenal team defense.  Just look at the halftime scores by two high-scoring offenses in the state tournament.  The other difference it seems to me in reading here and seeing them once, is that Bport is a bit more skilled.  They finish at the rim, make free throws, and shoot a high percentage.  We are very efficient.  Also we have honestly had more success against athletic, high pressure teams than we do against slow-it-down, less athletic good teams.

Silsbee is a great team.  Their kids play really hard and all have great motors. They have a huge edge when it comes to depth which is great from a season perspective.  However, if Bridgeport avoids injury like we did this year, that edge isn't huge in the playoffs.  You can only play five at a time and our guys can play a full game without fatigue isues.  Now if injuries pile up, it's a different story.  Silsbees second five vs. Bport's second five would be a 40 point blowout likely.   I'm also not seeing anyone that can match up with the 6'6" Patterson kid, but haven't seen enough Silsbee to know.  I was VERY impressed with Silsbee at Whataburger and went and told Bridgeport people that I'd rather not see them.

Last thing, throw out the first Kennedale loss.  Our two best guards did not play that game.  We started a kid that played JV the rest of the year and my own son who usually plays about 8-12 minutes a game played 32 that game.  Now the playoff game is a fair comparison where we won by 12.  Kennedale was 9 for their first 12 from three, so I'm pretty sure we took their best shot and din't really have a problem.  I think we are an 8-10 point favorite over Silsbee today, but a lot can change.  That's close enough that if we played Silsbee 10 times, we'd probably lose a 2-3 of them.  Much respect to the Silsbee team and I really hope we see each other next year.  I spoke with a few Silsbee fans when I saw them and they were extremely friendly and just seemed like good hoops fans.

Silsbee did beat WO-S in basketball last year and won both baseball games last year, 5-2 and 4-1.

BTW, Silsbee swept WO-S in football, basketball and baseball in 2009-10 season. WO-S has never swept Silsbee in all three sports in one season.

Still trying to figure out how you get an "average" from just one player. Wouldn't you need multiple ages to get an average?

Show me where Vegas puts lines based on ages?

But you were stating that Coach McGallion (Silsbee) did not want to play HJ. That was being dishonest.

My post suggesting the opposite was clearly in rebuttal to your post stating Silsbee did not want to play. Neither was accurate.

I was posing a question, you was making a statement.

Can we just agree that both are very good teams, who have both played tough schedules, both are talented, and it will be a great game? And please quit with the whole, they are a 5A team playing 3A. No, they opened a couple years ago as a 3A and are MOVING up to a 5A(old 4A) because they will have all 4 grades for the first time. They get it handed to them in all other sports, but because they are good in baseball it's a problem? Honestly, IMO, baseball is the one sport that any classification can play with another. Take several of the past 2A State champions and they ALL played preseason 5A tournaments and competed just fine. Pitching is the great equalizer and when you have it, regardless of classification, you can compete. Larger schools may/do have more depth, but best 9 on best 9, no, it doesn't make that big of difference when you have pitching. If Brenham was not playing Thursday, this is the game I would pay money to see because I feel it will be a great one. Two teams, playing great baseball in the playoffs?? Doesn't get any better!!

    Silsbee92,

I know you know this, but for those of your fans that you are trying to rally around your team by making them out to be an underdog, College Station is moving from 3A to 5A in name only. Next year's 5A is just renamed from what today is know as 4A. And they are moving up because there will be four individual classes from Freshmen through Senior next year.

Regarding strength of schedule, College Station played the toughest schedule in 3A baseball this year, and it has prepared them well.

Your kids have had a great year. And College Station will not be looking past them.

I expect the game to be very competitive. Good luck to your kids.

Should be a fun series, as should Huffman/BC.
All four of these teams are very well coached, playing their best ball of the season and finding ways to win.
At this point in the game, you are doing your team a disservice if you think any of the teams left don't deserve to be there or got lucky or whatever other term you want to put on it.
This is the absolute best time of the season and I can promise you that all four teams will leave it all on the field.
Can't wait to see who is left standing after Saturday.

So much for just congratulating Silsbee on a good job. Nelson and Porter have done a good job. This may be one of the most talented groups to come through Silsbee. Good luck to them the rest of the way.

It is very difficult to read this thread without responding when it is quite obvious some are wearing their rose-colored glasses as they evaluate and shred the umpiring. Leave age out of this. Your plate umpire for the HF game last week is 24 but you won so nothing was said of his ability (or lack of). WOS earned a win last night and no other explanation is necessary. WOS was better than BC last night...PERIOD! However, let's see if I understand what I have read (If I am to believe the comments, in combination with the stats from this post)

POST: KOGT states the umpire is a "hitters" ump.
    REALITY: BC-2 hits, WOS 5!
POST: I've seen better umps in LL.
REALITY: Many of us TASO umpires are volunteer LL umpires and perform very well at high levels of both (thank you for noticing)
POST: Coaches can scratch umps followed by this guy will never call for BC and WOS.
REALITY: Umpires can scratch schools as well and many of us have scratched BC for the very reason you can read throughout this post.
REALITY: I called the BC/HF game last week (after having scratched BC) simply because no other umpires were available due to the high number of scratches and I was basically begged to take the game.
REALITY: The only other BC game I called this year was similar to last night: Livingston had more hits, pitcher threw well and BC made 4 or more errors. As a result, Livingston beat BC because they were the better team that day.

Winning is great. Losing is tough. Some times you play well, other times you just don't but to take away a solid performance by your opponent without acknowledging your teams poor performance AND then turn on the umpires is demeaning to your opponent(s) and....Well, you understand why the top umpires in the Chapter will exercise their right to scratch these type schools (irrational fans don't help either).

PS-I have called WOS 3 times this season and they are a solid team. Lack the pitching depth they'd like to have but 1-9 hits well and they play solid defense much like BC.

Best of luck to both teams in the playoffs as you represent SE TX and will do so very well!!
