Lightning/Eagle reacted to PirateBasketballCoach in Friday night party
    Message from the dville superintendent

Free Tailgate Party and Friday Night Football:
Dear Bridge City, Orangefield, West Orange, Vidor, Mauriceville and everyone else. We hear some of you may not have a football game to watch tomorrow. This makes us sad and we want to share ours with you. Many of us are without homes, but no Texan should be without Friday Night Football.  Deweyville wants to share ours with you.
We will have a tailgate party starting about 3:30, then Volleyball if we can find an opponent, then Friday Night Football.
We have about 1,600 pounds of bbq, a volunteer to smoke it all, a DJ for the tailgate party and SPORTS. We are just north of Orange on the corner of HWY12 and HWY 87. Everything is free. No one will be charged for food or tickets.Come to the party and watch some ball.  For a few hours we can try not to think about Harvey. Be our guests and let us feed/serve/entertain you.

That's strange.  I don't recall any outcry over Memorial having a significant enrollment advantage over the rest of 22-5A when the alignment was announced.
But of course, it is doubtful that any of the area teams, aside from West Brook, would be able to survive the rigors of 6A (which, by the way, the Bruins, without significant complaints, have been able to do so).  Most of the schools in the area don't even boast a 1,000 student enrollment, much less the 2,400 that West Brook has or 2,100 that Memorial has.  West Orange-Stark, who for some reason seems to be a favorite target of a certain PAM supporter, would be 5 to 7 times smaller than the schools in that district. While I acknowledge that some of my fellow Mustangs fans are a little overzealous and believe that they could make up that difference, I think you'll find most of us who support the silver and blue are a little too grounded to believe that.
Is the current alignment fair?  I am sure that Memorial believes it is and after facing teams which were at times (but not always) 1000 to 2000 students larger, I certainly can't blame them.  But I wouldn't blame the other schools in 22-5A if they had their doubts about the current alignment's fairness, especially schools like Lumberton, Ozen and Livingston, who can see the 4A ranks clearly from where they currently stand.
So for a Memorial supporter to dismiss the playoff success of another school as being solely due to a drop to a smaller classification when few schools in Southeast Texas have had the reversal of fortune that Memorial had when they dropped classes (3-7 in 2014 AND 2015 before to 10-2 in 2016 after) is downright hypocritical.  And when the school's success that is dismissed is my alma mater, you can guarantee that I will point that hypocrisy out with perfect clarity.
That is dismissal is almost as hypocritical as denouncing a super talented young man as being sought after simply because he is a black kid at a majority white school and that said school would be in last place without him.  I can't recall a time in the 40 years that I have been following high school football that this school, Port Neches-Groves, has not been in, at the very least, in the playoff race, much less as the top of its district (most of the time with a lineup made entirely of caucasians). Not only is it factually incorrect, it attempts to forward one half of one of the more fallacious generalizations that exist on this board, that is that a white kid can't be "athletic" and a black kid can't be "disciplined."
Given the number of examples over the years that run so counter to this generalization that prove this false, you certainly think it would have stopped by now.  But in this case, pops up in a way that takes away from a very talented duo in Hines and Jones.

Lightning/Eagle reacted to Cougar14.2 in 2017 DAYTON BRONCOS
I didn't say Dayton wasn't growing, I said it's not growing as fast as the surrounding areas they have to compete with which is moving them down the ladder in district talent rankings. We're at the point now where Porter and New Caney are producing 4-star dbs. The game has changed.
Building a bunch of houses is fine but you better have a bunch of millennials with young children moving in to fill them instead of older people moving out there that just want more property. It's a hard sell for a set of 30-40 year old parents with young kids to pass Crosby, Barbers Hill, Baytown, Atascocita, the newer Sheldon area and even Huffman to come to Dayton which has less to offer and is most likely a tougher commute to work.
Compare that with the rapidly growing tax bases of the schools I just named and you can see why what used to be little 'ole New Caney probably has the nicest stadium in Houston for the moment, it's why BH can overpay to pull away a state championship coach from a cushy job and the reason Crosby's stadium has all the bells and whistles to go with the nicest baseball/softball complex in the state. None of that stuff meant squat 10-15 years ago, but now if you don't have it it matters a lot.

I was wondering what you were going to say when I first saw you had posted to this topic. It really did make me LOL when I read it. However, being the first game of the year and you're at home, I believe you will keep it close. I still think Manvel has too much and will ultimately prevail, but I think you guys will hang with them for the first half to three quarters.

Agreed, Just being athletic will win you some games, but being sloppy with penalties, losing tempers etc. will lose some games for teams with better athletes.

Thanks, I didn't feel like looking it up. One of my daughters was a slapper and I knew that was how she was instructed. Of course she was called out a couple times. Man I miss those days! But I do have a granddaughter just now starting ( 6U allstar) so she will keep me busy from the stands now .

I predict New Caney to be 8-2. NC will be on the road at The Hill and Crosby this year which will be tough places to win. The other contenders come to Texan Drive where I believe NC will have the advantage.

Lightning/Eagle reacted to WOSgrad in A public plea to the SETX board
Ok, ok.  I have been talked off of the ledge.  Against my better judgment, I will keep the game threads open.
I will ask a favor.  I have a lot on my plate here (keeping up with the games, posting the 2017 schedules, preparing 2017 football team previews, getting the volleyball forum ready, approving (or not) new members to make sure that we don't get spammers, reviewing reported posts and communicating with coaches to get 2017 info) so I will need a couple of favors as I usually can't get to all posts.
At the top of every post right beside the time stamp is a very light font "report post."  Please use this for offensive posts.  That way I can see the offensive posts and act on it.  Second, those that like to "rabblerouse" need to stop it.  As the masses have now spoken, leniency will be in short supply on these posts.

Have to say I agree with Kicker on this. A lot of good info is posted after game has ended on the threads. Do they sometimes get out of line, yes they do, but I for one would hate to see this happen.

Crosby and BH will probably be the favorites to finish 1 and 2. They both return a ton of starters with excellent coaching. NC will be tough again with high enrollment and solid coaching. Humble returns a beast at QB and at least athletically will be at the top of the food chain. Question is will they live up to their potential or will they underachieve once again. Dayton will have to replace 9 of 11 starters on the offensive side and around 7 starters on defense. Im very confident about teams 1 and 2 and even NC. As for the rest I think it's a toss up. Would like to see a team from our district get past the 2nd round.
