I think with the (rumored")ATM machine and the new restaurant called Goodies Cafe & Catering in Sour Lake, there might be more participation this year from outsiders.

Be careful going out there, Dove, and remember to make sure that you get stevenash to escort you out of the city limits at sundown! LOL

  2. Arthur Louis would DEFINITELY BE the answer at Ozen. He got a horrible raw deal before, and was a victim our quick success in basketball in 2001.  To be told that he had to make it past the quarterfinal round was very unfair to him. I hope they can talk him out of retirement for the sake of his own redemption....Great coach, and an even better person!

Why would you want a job in BISD for any reason other than your first head job. Pay... SUCKS, facilities (other than the butch)....SUCK (have you seen west brooks gym it's a 6A with a rubber YMCA floor), Athlete are less abundant in Beaumont than ever before (Ozen 4A enrollment Central 5A enrollment West brook small 6A enrollment PA 5A enrollment only 1 school) those two districts alone had multiple 6A schools that pumped out dudes and multiple 4A 5A schools that went to or won state stop kidding yourself  SETX there arent the same athletes out here as the late 80's -90's just STOP IT this isnt the home of the NFL anymore. Administration is a nightmare and used to be down right criminal. I mean for Christ's sake Foreman almost was lured away by 3A Woodville from a 5A job and 2 straight playoff appearances. No offense Woodville Y'all are doing some great things investing in your facilities and were almost as attractive as a 5A that puts out 5-15 scholarship athletes every year. But seriously I ask you, what coach with an established resume would in his right mind land at BISD unless he was recently fired, taking his first head job, or very desperate. Wake up until you stop blaming the current head coach and blame the people at the top who have been entirely inept at their jobs and even stolen from taxpayers then nothing will get fixed. Fix the facilities like 5A and 6A programs should have pay coaches pay that is on par with other big 5A or 6As and maybe you will be able to attract a 5A / 6A established head coach. If you have facilities like the condemned Durley field at a 6A job and pay your head coach 3A money you will continue to hire guys with 3A 4A resumes.

By far the DUMBEST, most un-educated post I have EVER seen about BISD...I GUARANTEE you that EVERY small school coach would take West Brook RIGHT NOW if offered in basketball AND Football! Are you kidding me? And MOST would take Ozen too! The only reason most won't take Central is out of FEAR...(I will leave it at that) You mean to tell me NEDERLAND'S facilities are better than BISD? Vidor? Bridge City? LCM? West Orange? HJ? I'm talking basketball and football....NO WAY.

This is funny stuff.. Boutte is one of the all time greats!  There is no debating that.  Even Boutte will tell you he has been blessed with talent.  Boutte just like plenty of other coaches has had teams that over achieve and a few that under achieved.  Boutte would not win state in Lumberton or Nederland just like no one else has.  However, there is no guarantee that English or any other coaches in this area would win state at Ozen or Lincoln (back in the day).  Is Boutte solely responsible for Perkins development?.  No.. Did he play a role in it?. Absolutely.. If Boutte gets credit for Perkins success then he gets credit for his short comings too right?. Thats why all this is comical.. Coaches play a role in all players both good and bad.. To win a state championship takes as much luck as anything.. The ball will have to bounce your way at some point along the way to winning one.. A coach's greatness cannot be defined by state rings alone especially at the high school level.. Plenty of great coaches who havent won and plenty who have.. It is just as hard to coach a team loaded with talent as it is to coach a team with very little talent.. Each has a different set of battles but both are equally difficult.

I agree with you on that, however, my point is not about the fact that he is a great coach, it's about how some feel it's by pure talent alone that he was able to do what he has done, and that's not accurate.

Wow, does any one have those ozen coaches private numbers?

i would sure like to have my kids and grandkids become 7 foot and learn to be nba ready.

And like you said, dont bring up Jackson. We all now he left Lincoln to become nba ready

That does not guarantee state championships...Remember RASHARD LEWIS (Alief Elsik)? He has ZERO state tournament appearances, and neither does ALTON FORD (Houston Milby) and HE was the NUMBER ONE RATED PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY....Some of you will NEVER understand....or never be willing to give anyone not named Sutherland, or Robinson, or Breitupt, any credit for being great in SE Texas....SMH

That's because you are thinking about it logically.   You would think if a kid's parent took a job coaching at a school, he would be allowed to play there.  After all, schools allow an exception to the residency requirement in such instances for a teacher's children to attend.  But we are talking about the UIL here.  Logic is not always present in these rules.

I was a coach's son that attended a school out of zone for all four of my high school years, and my dad and I had to go before the district committee EVERY year, because the same two coaches (one was from my zoned school) complained EVERY year. It became a running joke after my sophomore year, because it became the shortest DEC committee meeting in the history of DEC meetings those last two years! Waste of time. But its perfectly legal for a kid to play where his father (or mother) is employed no matter where that may be in relation to the residence.

So who is currently working on the West Brook varsity schedule?

Are you new at this? lol The current staff of coaches are still there everyday, hoping they are retained. OF COURSE they are going to work until the announcement is made! I wouldn't be surprised if Coach Simon is actually still doing it! That's just the type of guy that he is. Great gentleman!

You sure about that?  I don't see why the person who told me this who is part of the committee that will be doing the hiring would lie to me about who applied.

I know Boutte applied and will accept the job.  Maybe I should have worded my question better. Why would father and son apply for the same job?  Could it be HC and Assistant?  Daddy stays a __years then hands it over to son?

I will say this again...I was at a FAMILY GATHERING with all parties involved on yesterday. NO, Boutte's son did NOT apply for the West Brook job, and IF anyone else interviews, it will only be a formality. The job has been offered and will be accepted next month. Your contact got his info wrong or just flat out lied. FYI...No "committee" has even been formed yet. SMH

Why would Boute apply for the same job his son has applied for?

His son didn't apply for West Brook.....What are you talking about? Got confirmation yesterday that he will accept the job that has been offered, next month. The end.

Immanuel McElroy and Keith Harris PA Lincoln. Though one of those two would make it to pro level. Harris expecially.

McElroy has been playing overseas for the last 14 years, after his years at Cincinnati playing for Bob Huggins.  I thought if he were a better shooter he would have been an NBA player for sure, but he was a GREAT scorer, that was held back by Huggins system and became a defensive stopper. Keith Harris played 4 years at Tulane. Not sure if he spent any time overseas after that.

So he wasn't a walk on...but that wasn't what I...the origanator of this post stated...well I'm glad everybody did all their research and now KNOW he isn't a walk on...smh

But Gee, I don't think you understand that being a "preferred" walk on is not a bad deal at all...Sometimes, like I said, coaches HAVE to do this because in certain situations the scholarships are just not there...Its all good, though. Glad Jaylon is getting HIS paid for! Good deal!

  12. Confirmation of what it is...Congratulations to him and his family...GREAT STORY! :

Former Nederland HS star Jaylan Ballou (who played with Basketball University 16u last summer) moved to California for his senior season, and really opened a few eyeballs (17ppg 9apg) at Sante Fe HS.  Among the college coaches who expressed initial interested was Marvin Menzies (who was HC at New Mexico State).  Well, fast forward to April 2016 - Menzies accepted the HC gig at UNLV.  That doesn't change his vision nor did that have any effect on the players whom he liked.  So, once a Memphis based pg decided he would reverse his decison to attend UNLV, it became a blessing in disguise for Ballou.  That scholarship spot was offered to Ballou and without hesitating, he accepted it.  That is such an awesome story and it once again proves that rankings don't mean diddly squat.  If you produce and win on a consistent level, in today's society, somebody will take notice.

Maybe more players from Greater Houston should move the heck away and take a leap of faith akin to Ballou.  Meanwhile, I am a firm believer that some players actually improve from one point to another.  In this case, everyone should yeild benefit of doubt and at least settle on the thought that Ballou is obvoiusly much improved from 10 months ago.  It happens and when it does - it's a great thing!
