UIL has Ozen going 7 times
Since 2002: 2002 - won region 3, 2003 - won region 3, 2004 - lost to Houston Jones in regional semi, 2005 - lost to Houston Wheatley in regional semi, 2007 - won region 3, 2008 - lost to Houston Yates in regional semi, 2012 - lost to Houston Jones in regional semi......Thats 7. I see the oversight....I counted 2006 as a regional year, when they lost to Brenham in the Quarterfinals that season....7 is the accurate count since 2002... 7 of 10 regional tourney appearances is not to shabby for both programs.
Thanks Dickie, didn't realize Ozen had it going on like that. I just remember Ozen in the playoffs during Perkins' years and one year they met Wheatley.
Yeah we beat Wheatley to go to Austin in 2001, then they lost to them in the 2005 Regional...missed 22 free throws that game and lost by 2...missed 17 in the second half, including 5 in a row down the stretch that cost them the game...Wheatley wore them down with the pace, and hard fouls, and they could never get the tempo controlled..They were 34-1 that year...8 out of the last 10 regional tourneys, Ozen has been there...HJ who? ;)...(thought I would give you a little ammo, BD!!) ;D
Hmmm? I may be way off my years now. So what year was Chappell's last year? I think they lost in Final two his last year. So, what did Ozen do during DeCarlos' regime?
Brandon Chappell finished in 2002 when we lost to Dallas Lincoln in the State Championship game.  DeCarlos Frank's freshman year (2007) they also made it to the State Title game before losing to Dallas South Oak Cliff...His sophmore (2008) year they lost to Yates in the regional....His junior year they lost in the 2nd round to Huntsville, and I am not sure which round they lost in his senior year, but they didn't make the regional tourney.

 7.
Ok guys I am relatively new to this site.  I continue to read the comments referring to HJ's schedule.  Did they really play that weak of a schedule this past basketball season?  Did they play in the YMBL tournament?
Nah it wasn't that bad...You just have to understand the relationship between Bluedove3 and ANYONE from HJ, basically!!  ;D...He will give them a hard time no matter WHO they played!! 8)
 8.
Nah my math is good! The extra years were added based on a weak schedule  ;D
Oh OK...I understand...So them playing the likes of Sabine Pass, Evadale, and Big Sandy can not compare to Yates playing Oak Hill, Findlay Prep, and St. Anthony's of New Jersey.....I Gotcha!!! ;)..Bluedove, the HJ contingent is going to FIND YOU YET!!! You are going to need protection!  ;D ;D ;D

no- really?
Yep...and from what I here they have a pretty decent basketball program over there too... ;)
Are they really going to do away with the 3-a tourney and award the title by default to Yates in perpetuity?
nOPE!  We want you play and experience *real basketball*  ;D
We'll continue to play non-"real basketball" & advance further in the playoffs than anyone else in the area - Silsbee excluded.
Just when was the last time HJ did that????
My memory is a little fuzzy but I would think 2007 has a very good chance of qualifying.
Its 2012 So its been 5 yr that HJ has advanced further than any other team in the area. I would not say that as CONTINUING ADVANCING FURTHER.  HJ has a good program but so do other area teams ;D ;D  Dont try and make your team look good by putting others down.
I believe that HJ has been to as many or more regional tourneys than any other team in the area in recent years.
I can dispute that contention...what are you calling "recent years"? 5 or 10? The last 10 its Ozen...Last 5, you have a point with it being HJ...
They have ALWAYS been clean...stop wishing and hoping they lose players, cause they won't...just get ready for your one or two playoff rounds next season, and hope HJ is not on the same bracket as Yates!!!  ;D
Dickie, by no less authorities than you and Dove, our area now knows that no "Real" basketball in Texas high school is played below the 5A and 4A levels.  That being true (because you two said it), then might some of those Yates boys decide not to follow Yates into 3A because they still want to play "Real" basketball?  And then you would have an ordinary 3A Yates team playing ordinary 3A Hardin-Jefferson or ordinary 3A Silsbee.  Is it your position that an ordinary 3A Yates team is that superior over H-J or Silsbee or other Region III teams?
Here is the difference. Yates will continue to play a national schedule. Ya know, like national powerhouse teams across the nation. And you already know HJ's schedule
Honestly, this is a TWO YEAR experiment for HISD...I assure you the kids will not be leaving Yates just because they have dropped to 3A...in 2014, they will return to 4A with the rest of the Houston ISD schools that have not consolidated by then...You heard it here first... ;) Write it down.... 8)

 17. Did you know that Coach K REFUSED to recruit Lebron James out of high school for that reason....Said it would be a "waste of resources and time"...I think that the NBA should adopt the same policy as the NFL...at LEAST TWO years of college...It would greatly benefit college hoops as well.

(even though you have already seen the future)
Nash, you know by now HJ could win State and I will still find a reason how lucky yall were to win it  ;D
They had better polish those trophies that they have now, because they are gonna have to last for a while.... ;) ;D....Did you guys know that Houston Yates was in 3A now? ::) ::) ;D ;D
 20. Give it to my guy TATER (Taylor) !!!  ;D....Coach Tater was not the OC or DC, but he wasn't necessarily just the "get back" coach either!  8)
 21. Good fit. He should do very well there....Congrats to him.
 22. J'Covan has a very high skill level, and is deceptively quick, but not very athletic...One more year could show that he can 1) guard an athletic NBA PG, 2) effectively play PG in the NBA, and 3) be a consistent outside threat.....He can score with the best of them, but these are the things that I think may be in question with NBA clubs right now...I really wish him well, because he has come a long, long way...
 23. Will they have a CO-Championship in this tournament? ;D ;D
But so can the others who are anticipated to be taken before him
Excellent observation
Thank you.  I put in a lot of study and analysis before arriving at my enlightened conclusion.  Are there going to be any Yates players in the draft?
How many former Yates players are in the NBA?  I know there was a thread before that listed Golden Triangle players that have made it to the league, just curious!
Good question...currently there are none...there are only two NBA players currently from Houston ISD...Daniel Gibson (Jones) and Emeka Okafor (Bellaire).
