When Does Saveat Start Getting His Props?
Dick Vitale replied to BLUEDOVE3's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Look here boy, I have FORGOT more basketball than you know...YOU said that Savaet was HORRIBLE before...Now you have completely changed that tune and Soulja called you out on it. You sound dumb to say that Brian English is an average coach. NO ONE AGREES WITH YOU. While that is your opinion, in which you are entitled, we know, (well I know) where its coming from...Its hate....and you should really stop that. Fact is, I know more about why you say what you say, than you think...You have most people fooled on here as to your identity...Not me...I KNOW you...Now, just leave it alone. Let it go. -

Beaumont Westbrook wins UIL Appeal
Dick Vitale replied to Dick Vitale's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Truth is, my daughter, who plays volleyball as a sophomore this year at Wesbrook, was excited that they were not in the same district with The Woodlands, who reached the state championship game this year, on a team that features my (and her) cousin, who is also a 10th grader at TWHS! LOL -

Pack your bags...Silsbee will beat Houston Sterling by 25 plus...Guaranteed.

When Does Saveat Start Getting His Props?

I think he is a product of following a legendary coach at a basketball tradition rich program. People think that its supposed to be easy and wins come by just showing up. Marquis has done an exceptional job over there and deserves this honor! -

Didn't see it, which was why I posted it....My bad....lol -
Navasota takes this one. by 10.

Westbrook has won it's appeal to move from District 12-6A to 22-6A, due to excessive travel requirements. Instead of traveling to play in Conroe, The Woodlands, Lufkin, and Montgomery, they will be in the same district with Deer Park, LaPorte, Pasadena, Dobie, Pasadena Memorial, South Houston, and Sam Rayburn.....Much better situation for the Bruins.

Not true...I made it clear what I was saying. Marquis Savaet has more district titles and a regional championship. Todd Sutherland is in another league altogether. But what English has done at two sub par schools is a heck of an accomplishment. Again, love it or hate it, it's just true. -

Actually it DOES. If you answer it, you will make my point. You know that I know what I'm talking about, I need you to think about the question more carefully. The debate is about YOUR definition of a coach being average versus really good or great. It's a VERY relevant question. -
# 5 OZEN VS #11 FT. BEND MARSHALL
Dick Vitale replied to JustUs's topic in High School Boys Basketball
A different type of game, different challenge. Tempo, tempo, tempo...That will be the key here. Ozen did an OUTSTANDING job against Bush in a grind out game, and will have to do some of the same against a different type of FB Marshall team. They are going to have to FORCE the tempo a bit more here. Run when possible, and slow them down in the process...Get EASY baskets in transition. LOTS of zone...Make them make threes, instead of paint points...just my two cents. -

Why is it that my question goes unanswered, two days later? I guess I DID shut it down! LOL -
Haa! It's all good...that's cold man...bad memories!...I played in a few regional finals though! LOL

Good win for Ozen..statement made...keep it going.

OZF, DO YOU CONSIDER BOB HUGHES (FW DUNBAR) AND BILL KRUEGER (CLEAR LAKE) TO BE AVERAGE COACHES PRIOR TO THEIR STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SEASONS? You have YET to answer this question either. Do you think Coach Lee (Former Central HC) is a better coach than English? he made it to Austin, right? FYI, I could have worked with English long ago, if I chose to, so that's no motivation for speaking honestly about a colleague. For Nederland to win or even be tied for a district title IS AN ACHIEVEMENT based on THEIR history. Its not a big deal for Ozen, because it's been the norm for them. (15 district titles in 18 years, including 12 in a row). You have to be able to see what has ACTUALLY been done here. Hate it or love it, its just the truth. -

Honestly, it may get a bit rougher talent wise after this year. There is a Port Arthur kid (best 8th grader in the area) that was considering Nederland, but if some changes occur in Beaumont, (as I hear it's almost a certainty that it will) I am 100% certain that the kid will end up in BISD...Totally legal. I said before that Saveat has done a FANTASTIC job at Ozen. He held that program to a standard and that's not easy either. Travis Williams did a great job in Silsbee, and in my opinion was not a good fit for the Memorial program, but did a good job there nonetheless. Sigler is one of my favorite people in the area, and has done solid at Silsbee during both stints there. Now let me ask you this....WHAT IF English had ONE of those Silsbee teams? Considering what he did with virtually nothing, do you think he could have done AT LEAST the same at those other places? Its a common sense answer, really. OF perhaps you're not old enough to know the history of both of those schools before he got there, but they were pretty darn bad. Ask the Lincoln old heads about what THEY think about NEDERLAND going to the regional tourney, even once....or making the playoffs, for that matter. Its a big deal, trust me. So, OF, let me ask you this....Was Bob Hughes resume just average prior to him winning his first title in 1993? Was Clear Lake's Bill Krueger's resume just average before he won it in 1989? -
Bush by 12. This is (head coach) Ronnie Courtney's time of year.

Dick Vitale replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
The only thing he hasn't done is win the region and gotten to the State Tournament. That's not easy to do, but his resume is FAR from average considering what he has done at two schools NOT known for anything basketball...Come on, man...I'm all about winning championships, but I DO know how difficult that can be for ANY coach to do. TIMING and LUCK. Both play BIG parts in addition to running a quality program in getting to that next level. I think Coach Lee from Central is a good man, and he made it to State with Central in his last year, but I don't think he is a better coach than English. Bob Hughes from Fort Worth Dunbar...Remember him? It took him 39 YEARS to win a state title, when he won his first one in 1993 at a POWERHOUSE school! THIRTY NINE YEARS! And he is considered one of the greatest that Texas has ever seen.... Bill Krueger from Clear Lake...Texas winningest coach...remember him? It took him 35 YEARS to win ONE state title, in 1989...My point is, there is NO WAY that you can measure this guy's accomplishments by state tourney trips. NO WAY. Again if you know any active coach in SE Texas with a better body of work (not named Sutherland) I want to see it. BODY OF WORK, meaning went to the playoffs at VIDOR, and advancing to the regional tournament at NEDERLAND. Just think about that. -

OK to address this issue...There are certain people on this board that hide behind screen names and critique these coaches and call them over-rated and such, but let me say this, I think that's terrible. Andre Boutte, Todd Sutherland, James Gamble, Fred Williams have ALL experienced first round playoff losses at some point in their career...It happens..NO ONE that knows ANYTHING about basketball can say with a clear conscience that Brian English has not done a terrific job of turning that Nederland program around. They were a JOKE before he arrived, and that team was in the REGIONAL tournament a couple of years ago. I really hate when individuals get on here with agendas...Again guys who hide behind screen names, and TRY to critique in order to elevate themselves is just a pitiful shame. I just give credit where its due. The guy has shown time and time again how good he is as a coach, but certain people cant ever get past themselves in order to recognize others...I wish EVERY poster's real name, resume and credentials could show up on here, so that the cowards would just back away....Just my two cents....
