Young Mongtomery team played Angleton tough running the ball and controlling the Angleton D-line. Two costly turnovers-one before half on their own 15 yd on a shotgun snap? and one at the end (4th) trying to score from the Angleton 10. What we learned- Montgomery O-line and RB Linton look like they are going to have a good year. Montgomery D is small but tackles good, but got exposed on misdirection plays and quick passes to the wideouts at CB. Proud overall of Montgomery and how they played, I defintely underestimated them. Angleton better cleanup the penaltys and turnovers. The D-line got pushed around by a young and inexperienced O-line. Lots of cramping and injuries. Don't see the typical Angleton speed from years past. They have a good WR#9 and fast RB#23 but I don't see this team going that far without much improvement. But hey its early so lots of games to go. Rosenberg Terry and Pearland Dawson will be licking their chops after watching this game film. Good luck to Angleton this year. Here's the boxscore- [Hidden Content]? site=default&mkt=houston&Season=2012&tpl=Boxscore&Sport=1&ID=145765&TeamID=216&SearchType=Teams
You should probably get a copy of the film and watch the game again because at no point did Mont O Line control the line of scrimmage.  Mont.  got the ball on the 28 after Ang muffed the 2nd half kickoff and had to settle for a FG.  The 30-40 yard TD run by #28 was on a stunt call.  Ang DE #44 created havoc all night.  #65 and #98 plugged all night except when they were double teamed.  The game was never in doubt for Ang.  If Ang played Mont 10 times Ang wins 10 times.
I agree. I didn't see the Montgomery O line "controlling" the line of scrimmage either. The only players that stopped this game from ending with the Cats putting up 40+ points were the Cats themselves. If the wildcats had not given the bears all the "gifts" that they did, the score would have likely been 42 (or more) to 7. I think that if they just concentrate on working on doing a better job of holding onto the ball, and paying more attention so as to eliminate the false start penalties, they will get to where they need to be soon. The D line could use some more experience, and they will get plenty of that in the coming weeks i'm sure. I know that coach Roark has been making notes about the areas where they need the most work, and you can rest assured that he will make corrections as needed asap.

Looked good against Tivy. But idk, too close to call. Gonna come down to ball control and that infamous yellow flag.
I say manvel should take it if they play the way they have been playing all season... BTW dustoff03, did you make it to the Angleton vs Dawson game?
Afraid not. The Calhoun fans here at Formosa were so distraught after losing to Tivy that they decided everyone needed to work Sat and Sun. Only game I saw was Sunday night NFL. Sounded like a nailbiter as predicted. Congrats to yall on a great season. Unfortunately my hopes of someone beating LT are probably gone. I don't think Dawson will do it.
Yeah, we were one catch away from winning that one. Apparently, when thrown into a 30mph headwind the speed at which a pass travels decreases significantly after about 10 yards - (which enables a defender to get between the ball and its intended target much easier) :o Then, with less than a minute left and a four point lead, the opposition can just run the clock down. That's cool tho, 13-1 is still the best record (and team) Angleton has ever had in their history! (Not to mention a better record than Dawson's @ 12-2, and fixin' to be 12-3)!! LOL!! I'm sure the 'Cats will be a force to be reckoned with next season too! I agree with you about Dawson and LT. I will be surprised if LT doesn't pluck all the eagles' feathers and send them home crying...BTW thanks for supporting Angleton! That's really cool of you. You know, not being from the area and all. :) Oh, Yeah... GO MAV'S!!!!

 5.
IMO i think dawson got lucky on the injury Angleton had with cooper in the first half. They don't stand a chance. Lake Travis by 21+
I hope Dawson can beat LT, but considering how close they came to loosing to Angleton yesterday, I don't think they can. Also I don't think that cooper being injured hurt Angleton as much as the mistakes that they made did. (BOTH teams made a LOT of mistakes) The biggest one for our side being the int that was thrown with only seconds left in the game. Angleton's defense had just caused Dawson to turn the ball over on a fumble by sacking their QB, and they were advancing toward dawson's goal line when the Cat's QB threw a pass that was meant for Dillon Shugart who was running right up the middle of the field and into the end zone. One of the dawson defenders got between the ball and the intended target and picked it off, not to mention saved the game for Dawson. After that, Dawson just ran the clock down and there was nothing else that could be done. This game was really close from the beginning, and it really did come down to who had the ball last. Both teams played hard, but Dawson just made one less mistake and got the W by four points.
 6.
The winner gets Lake Travis.  Doesn't that sound like fun?
Might be! Heck, they can't beat everyone forever. At least,...we can hope.
 7. Good thing is that Pearland is just right up the road from Angleton. No sweat here! 8)

 11.
That's pretty top-notch right there.  The coaching profession needs more men like that.
He's a great man, helping to create many more great young men for our community. :). Best Head coach Angleton has had in the 18 years that I've lived there!!

The coach has always said "A win is a win, whether it's by one point, or fifty points." That being said, I believe that he is more concerned about letting everyone play if he can, than he is concerned with winning by the most possible points. (More points for the opposition makes the Cats look easier to beat on paper than they really are too. That leads some teams to believe that they have more of a chance to win than they actually do ;)) I do think that for next game we'll have the first string out there the entire game. Unless...for some odd reason... we have a HUGE lead and it's late in the fourth. (Even I don't think that will happen against dawson) THEEEEN they may play 2nd or 3rd string and risk giving up a few points. 8)
I think getting your backups in(especially in the playoffs) is great for continuing your consistency as a winning program. This is valuable experiece that will carry over to next season. Not all teams can do this even for one game. It's starters all the way. As for your defense, I just saw them play. They held us to 17 in the first half and shut us down in the second. I was impressed with how well they adjusted. And yes, I looked at all your games and most of the points given up were with the game in hand and the starters resting. I still think though, that the Dawson game will come down to who has the ball last.JMO.
I agree with everything you said, and I think it will be a nail biter also. I think our guys are fired up and ready though!
I'm in Port Lavaca right now working but I am off Saturday. Don't be surprised if you see some black and gold mixed in with that purple.
I'm sure it will be packed on our (visitor's) side, but we'll definitely make room for any of you who will root for us! Also, I doubt you will attract any negative attention for wearing your black and gold either. Come on down, we love anyone who loves us! The more the merrier as they say!
Need directions. I'll be coming up 59 from Victoria.
Go east from 59 on south Beltway 8 till you reach the exit for hwy. 35 south (Pearland) which is also known as North Main. Go south on 35 for a few miles until you see the stadium on your left at Oiler Drive. Can't miss it. (unless you're blind :))Not sure how far down 35 you will have to go, but I know the stadium is south of town, and the beltway is north of town.
Got it. Thanks. Maybe I'll see you there. We will be the ones dressed in Vidor black and gold. lol
Also, Cats are visitors and the visitor's side FACES hwy 35. Just FYI.
 13.
I think if the game is close or tied at half, I have the confidence that Coach Rourk can make the adjustments to pull it out in the 2nd half. If the kids can execute the adjustments, I see them winning. It will be tough, but Angleton has the ability to do it.
It's RO-ARK. ;) LOL And yes it's pretty well known (at least by angleton fans) that the Wildcats are a big "second half" team this year.
I've seen both teams, and Dawson is bigger than Angleton.
Alief Elsik (5a) has more than a few players on their line that are 6'4 and taller that weigh in @ 310-335 lbs some of which  were playing on both sides of the ball, and they couldn't keep up with, nor effectively stop our guys. Heck, by half time they were huffing and puffing and couldn't hardly catch their breath. They lost to the cats by 30 points, (44-14) and that was only the fourth game of the season back when our guys were more un-familiar with their positions. It will be a good game this week for sure tho! ;D

 17. Great season Pirates! I expect we shall meet again possibly next year as you have an excellent team and coaching staff! I look forward to it! BTW, it's niether here nor there as they say, but the "tunnel" that you guys run out of at the start of each half (don't know the technical name for it) is one of the coolest, & most intimidating I have seen all year! Looks eeeeevil. ;D GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR PIRATES!!!!

He's a sophomore.
No problem brother. I understand that many teams have a lot of great players which may not always start.I was just saying that (in general) the starting players wil make less mistakes, that's all. We have a lot of young ones too. Our starting kicker (the really small one) is a freshman with an extensive soccer background. His older brother who graduated last year- same thing. He was starting kicker then.:)

 21. I pick Manvel as the winner in this contest! I saw them beat Dawson at the Rig last month on Angleton's off week, and they are nothin' nice! They have some BIG BOYS on that team and they just run right over the opposing team like it's nothing.
 22.
Watch out dawson. There defense may not look good on numbers but they have a way to force you to make mistakes and they will capitalize on those mistakes. And don't focus on there jackson too much because they have another one just as good as him IMO running the ball as well in number 15.
What he said...#15 is Richard Cooper. Also don't forget about #20 Jimmy Lewis. He's a slippery one too. A little smaller tho. Kinda like a pinball when he has the ball and he can find and easily get through the small holes quickly when he's makin a carry. ;D BTW vp32, about that Cats defense, I tried to tell you...but you didn't believe me.  LOL! Caused AT LEAST one fumble for yall...Great team tho! Pirates I mean.
 23.
Dawson has beat Angleton also...Very bad last year! [move]Go Cats, Go!!!![/move]
I agree Angleton D WAS terrible before. This year, they are NOT. Like Night and Day. This year everything about the team is COMPLETELY different. New coaching, new offensive style, lots of different plays than before based on the wing t offense, different QB who can run well, and can pass when he needs to with a very good % avg and few int's, and MUCH more depth as far as very fast and talented players go. All I can say is this- We owe them a butt whoopin' after last year, and if the Eagles come into this game basing their opinion of how the cats are going to play next w/e on what they saw last year..., they're going to get a BIIIIIIIIIG surprise, and it won't be one that they will like either!! :o :o :o

 25. Angleton Wildcats should win as long as penalties are kept to a minimum, and everyone on D plays their positions. A few reasons the 'Cats should win are; T.J. Austin, Ryan Jackson Jr., Jimmy Lewis, Richard Cooper, Dillon Shugart, Marquis Elder, Gerard Scott, Webster Jones, John Moore, Josh West, Sammy Rodriguez, Tyler Bludau, etc., etc., etc.... ;D
