Slight work. Lets run through these boys real quick and move on. Jones has been gaining confidence lately and has come through with some nice throws. Im excited about the playoffs this year. If Jones can keep it up, along with what he and Hines contribute in the run game, we may make a nice run. Time for those recievers to start playing big boy football now. We will need that balance against good teams.
Big boy time fellas. And please no crying about referees in the playoffs. Im still seeing people a month later whining. As a former two sport ball player its all part of the game. The good teams don't make those mistakes and even if they do, they are able to overcome them. Lets get it.

I've never really understood why the UIL uses a snapshot of enrollment on a particular day to determine school enrollment. It seems to me that more accurate enrollment figures, thus avoiding a situation such as occurred with Livingston last time, by using the TEA enrollment numbers. Schools don't understate their enrollment numbers when state funding is on the line....LOL. It seems like the enrollment numbers for state funding would be public information and relatively easy to access. Of course you would still have those high growth districts that would, because of that growth, have enrollments potentially larger than the cut-off number for their classification. Not sure there is any way to resolve that issue, but using the numbers for state funding might address the issue of under reporting enrollment numbers.

Coach Witherspoon in Jasper once won several state titles in track. They worked out on a dirt trail he mark off -- set several national and state records during the day - Jasper built a new all weather track and hasn't won a state title since-- takes more than a pretty kitchen to make a good meal

Doesn't really say how it happened. Had it been so long since PNG lifted a trophy that they forgot how to do it?

My two cents (yes they are wooden cents so worth less than a wooden nickle)...LOL
PNG/PAM is not a rivalry as there is no history between the two schools. The students at neither school have experienced the "thrill of victory or the agony of defeat" at the hands of the other.
PAM as a relatively young school is still building it's traditions and probably still looking for that true, you are the spawn of the devil and we can't stand you at least for the week of the game, rival. PNG on the other hand has been playing football a long time, has well established traditions, and a natural rival in Nederland given the proximity of the communities and the fact that they were playing each other long before they played any of the old Port Arthur schools (if my memory is correct).
There is; however, (I can never remember if the semi-colon or comma comes first LOL) a history of rivalry between the Port Arthur and Portneches/Groves communities and the parents and grandparents that attended PNG, TJ, Lincoln, or SFA can remember quite well the rivalries that did exist in the past. Maybe it is nostalgia, but many remember, perhaps longingly, when tickets were hard to come by, the stadium in Port Neches or Port Arthur would be packed to overflowing, excitement was in the air, and everyone would be pumped up for the game.
I think PAM/PNG has the potential to become that kind of rivalry in the future. PAM/Nederland has a lot of potential as well. A three way battle royal for bragging rights in Mid/South Jefferson County...good stuff if you ask me.
Yes, for the "older" folks it may be a kind of "back to the future" thing...but what is wrong with that? Good football and heated rivalries (old or new) are a big part of the allure of high school football.

I was on a decent roll first two weeks (20/25 and 21/25, 41/50 and tied for 2nd). I'm still on a roll after week 3 but its rolling down hill now. Oh well, easier to stay on a downhill roll than an uphill roll....LOL

The trip up against Tarkington concerns me but I'm going to give EC the nod in this one. HF looks like they have struggled mightily thus far, even considering that their opponents in weeks 1 and 2 are probably better than EC's first two opponents.
On a related but irrelevant note: I am somewhat of a contrarian and value originality. Mid County Madness has a nice ring to it, but it seems most other rivalries in southeast Texas are referred to as the "____ Bowl". So I am going to propose that we change the name of the game from the "Rice Bowl" to "The Rumble in the Rice Field"....
OK, maybe I have to much time on my hands, my imagination is over active concerning trivial things, and I need to get a life....LOL

Evadale plays Deweyville Friday and I found out a couple of days ago they're  calling it the River Bowl (Neches & Sabine).   I like Rumble in the Rice Field - +1.  Maybe our game could be, "Muddy Water Mayhem".  Hey, at least we're thinking outside the box lol.
    i think EC wins this.
