1. It upsets me that this whole thing happened but I do feel for the young man (James), not sure that this is how he wanted to be in the spotlight. Hopefully the kids are learning from the mistakes the adults made, exactly why  I don't leave it completely up to the coaches to teach my son the ins and outs of life.
 2. Bluedove this is for you "Y'all people are hilarious". ;D
 3. For some this "tournament" may be good but I guess I never really understood the point. My son has played varsity for 2 years so far and has not participated in this tournament in neither year. I'm not knocking Coach English or any of the kids that do participate but to put any merit on the outcome of this tournament is insane and anybody who gets offended by comments on this topic and any other needs to _________. I heard that Central nor WB participated so does that mean that they are not going to have a basketball program this year lol? With so many of Ozen's (and several other schools I'm sure) players doing multi-sports, I wondered who would even play. I'm curious to know who played for Ozen, Dove????????
 4.
thats not correct nederland boys are in 1st. you might have forgot to add in the 2 mile where nederland got 20 points placing 1, 3, 4.
My words were: There's really not much coverage - If I'm not mistaken Ozen's girls are leading, Nederland's boys are in 2nd and Ozen's boys are in 3rd...this is after field events yesterday. Running finals are tomorrow at 5. Please forgive me for not giving Nederland the correct props  ::)
 5.
Ok I'll ask... Maybe I missed it somewhere.. What about LaMarque?
If I'm not mistaken, all sports at LaMarque have been put on probation. LaMarque's coach claimed players involved were punished for the game played after Ozen. UIL wasn't satisfied with the punishment given to Ozen's players by Coach Nelson therefore leading to this additional punishment. Again if I'm not mistaken.

 8.
I guess this tourney will give a preview for what the area teams will have next season, or will most of the players still be in Spring football practice?
And in track.....
 9. Not sure if this is the forum or not but need to know if anybody has any knowledge or insight on highlight reels? How long should they be and what exactly are coaches/recruiters looking for? Any positive insight or suggestions is appreciated.....
 10. Don't count my Panthers out just yet although we are used to being the underdog. We have more than just Jakobi coming back plus you never know who just may make a special appearance. Yes, losing Trey will have its effects but we shall return lol.....
 11.
And Ozen will have 2 senior guards to lead the younger players which is definitely an added asset. ;)
Maybe, maybe not...don't know which side of the court that ball is on just yet lol
 12. Throughout the course of this season, you've had your ups and your downs some hiighs and some lows but through it all you've maintained and for this I say "Thank you". You've lost some that people feel you clearly should have won. You've won some when everything was stacked against you. Your coaching staff has faced scrutiny from every angle. I said all of that to say this "Hold your heads up high. Thanks Ozen Panthers for a great season!"....
 13. This Ozen parent says "Thanks for clearing that up!"
 14. I'm a little jealous so I started my own lol....... Who's joining me with the Panthers tonight??????????
 15.
Where is the hype for the Ozen game against Houston Jones? What does Jones have? Who wins?? It's kinda sad that nobody is discussing this game!! These kids have worked hard and survived all odds... Where are the Ozen fans??
That's what I've been saying ALLLLLLL along, there are no Ozen fans on this site especially on the basketball forum. (Sadly this holds true of Ozen's fan base at games as well) In district play, a thread is usually started by the opposing team. As soon as something unfortunate happens, a thread is started and harped on for years to come. Now back to the question, I have no clue what Jones has with the exception of what I was told from the scouting report from one of the assistants- good caliber team that runs and has some decent shooters and some mention of the PG. We can win this is the kids come out and play. Where are the Ozen's fans? Not calling anybody out but BD, ozensfinest and I - we are here, hope I didn't leave anybody out lol.....
 16. Not sure but hopefully Ozen has spent some time at the line...they wouldn't have had to fight so hard against Humble, had they made their free throws and the lead would have been bigger against Nederland as well.

Plus isn't he at a JC
I was only clarifying that Ozen had a recent true D-1 a several years ago. Nothing to do with winning State ;)
Fact: Ozen has had 1 pro, and 4 Division I players in 15 years of existence.....That is NOT earth shattering by any means...and the Division I players and schools? Keena Young (BYU), Jason Dabney (TSU), Brandon Chapell (Lamar), and Kris Richards (Tulane)(Jason Breckenridge would have been the fifth, but an ACL injury kept him out of his senior season, he went on to play at Prarie View A&M)....We are not talking Duke, UNC, Kansas type schools here...I think winning a state title is not as easy as people may think it is, and it was DEFINITELY NOT guranteed by having Kendrick Perkins, either... Won it all in 2001 going 36-0, but in 2002, we faced another pro in Chris Bosh, along with 3 other D-1's ON THAT Dallas Lincoln TEAM, then in 2003, The team had Perkins, Young, and 9 sophmores that got most of the minutes and they still finished 34-1 losing in the state title game to FW Dunbar that featured 3 D-1's on that team...It was not a gimme, just because Perk was on the roster...Savaet is not doing a bad job, but the program is not what it once was...NO fault of his, but it was very difficult to follow Boutte in the first place...Kids had to be won over, the community had to be won over, and in the process, Ozen lost some kids that they would have normally gotten...Part of the process...They had to depend on more football kids this year too, than in year's past...It took them a while to get going, but now they are peaking at the right time....Most people just don't understand these facts.
I agree. You are darn right kids had to be won over - my son went to open gym at Ozen for too many years growing up...working and communicating with Boutte during the summer was a great experience for my son and this bond led him to want to go to Ozen to play for Boutte. It was earth shattering to an 8th grader when he learned Boutte would not be at Ozen when he was a freshman, this almost led to him going to Central because he couldn't fathom Ozen basketball without Boutte. Again I haven't always agreed with Saveat but we are a work in progress.  :)
 18. I must say that I don't agree with alot of the posts on this site but again WHO AM I? I am Ozen supporter but I must admit that Coach English has done an amazing job with the program and we lost to Nederland on several occasions over the years...in saying that I know that some avid Ozen supporters "discredit" Nederland's accomplishments and blame it on coaching at Ozen and Central but hey it's over with and we can't change the outcome. I will also admit that I haven't been a big fan of Ozen basketball since Boutte left and gave Saveat a hard time but I had to suck it up for my child. In saying that I really wish that PEOPLE would suck it up and stop trying to downsize Coach English and Nederland's accomplishments and accept Ozen basketball for what it is right now. You may not feel that Saveat is the right person for the job but he has the job at this point. I agree whole-heartedly with an earlier post by JRIDGE. I have also read posts with people saying that Ozen is only still in it because of being the 3rd seed - HOGWASH! The same thing with football, the kids worked hard to get this far regardless of what seed they were. Stop being so bitter about yesterday or 5 years ago. Support the kids or don't support the kids - the choice is yours. With that being said, LET'S GO PANTHERS! Ride or Die (at least til my son graduates)! :D

 20. The Ozen that played last night and the 1st 3 quarters of the game against Humble was not the same team that played Nederland during the 1st district meeting or that showed up in Livingston. I'm curious to know others thoughts on this. Has anybody else noticed a change in coaching as well as playing as a team?
 21. Fellas, please get back in your respective corners lol. I'd like to go to a Nederland/Ozen thread just one time and actually read about Nederland and Ozen. There's so much to say to "DV", about "DV" and from "DV", start a thread about "DV" PLEASE (heck that thread would probably cause a malfunction to this site). Congratulations to Nederland for all of their accomplishments and good luck to Ozen in the next round (we're going to need it). And again this is only IMO!!!!!!!  Ok I'm off my soapbox now, my apologies  :)
 22.

Dick Vitale How can you say the OZEN staff almost blew something you aways talking down on someone!!!!!!! Are u not the same guy that has had a number of Head coaching job and gotten fired!!!! You are the last one that should be takling about some one who almost blew something!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they don't want your talent no where at OZEN ok let's get that straight so stay your A** where you at and keep hating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can say it because its the truth! I said "staff" because thats the word that was used by the other poster...Ozen went up 20-6, in the 2nd quarter, and the first 4 minutes of the 2nd, they went into a "stall" handoff game, which IN MY OPINION, took the edge away, got them out of attack mode, and kept them from putting the game away early...Apparently, someone pulled his coattail to it, but IT TOOK AWAY from what they were doing early..If you disagree, you disagree, but THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED in the 2nd quarter..Not saying that the adjustment wasn't made, because obviously it worked out for Ozen in the end...Those kids were about to blow that game wide open...As far as being "fired" goes, it happens...its the business...Bobby Knight was fired...He is in the Hall of Fame, and like me it wasn't about wins and losses...things happen...doesn't mean I don't still know the game!....You just GET a head coaching job, then we will talk...Until then, you may never understand.
Please don't shoot me but I agree with DV on the bolded part above. Ozen came out with great intensity during the 1st qtr and that crazy stall ball killed that. As i sat there and watched I asked people sitting around me why would they do that and the repsonse was "coaching". It worked I guess but IMO the score would have been a tad bit different had Ozen continued playing. At the same time I can also see taking time off the clock but Ozen has been known to turn the ball over when they play keep away. Hey maybe Coach English would have made the adjustment, heck I don't know but had they continued playing with the same intensity it wouldn't have been such a low scoring game again this IMO. Wrong thread I know......
 23. The way my nerves are you'd swear I have to suit up tonight for this game lol....Will be so glad when it's over, wait no I won't because the outcome will be talked about for days no matter what it is. Let's go Panthers! Guess I better leave my helmet in the car.  ;D SORRY!!!!
