ThirdDay reacted to BMTSoulja1 in Beaumont United 17 Baytown Sterling 7/FINAL
This game was pretty interesting. I don't know if this was a combination of a trap game or the limited practice due to the floods last week, but..
We played about as how I expected. We were rusty on both sides of the ball. Matter of fact, the defense looked lackluster on Sterling's scoring drive. Shortly after that, whatever funk the Defense was in, they came alive and Looked like their regular selves. Offense? Not so much. Penalties galore, penalties, guys taking sacks and not throwing the ball away, ect. No matter what, we got through with No injuries and without showing too much, knowing that West Brook and Channelview Coaching staffs were there to scout us.
This is like the 2nd game in the row we've left points on the field. I preached about this last week. Also, dumb penalties on offense. You seen that here as well. If we don't get this together.... Brook is the best opponent that we will have faced thus far. If our offense don't get their arses in gear, We'll get beat down next week, no exaggerating.
On the Bright side, There was a first at this game. I've been going to HS football games for a long time, and I've never seen the Visitor band play and the home stadium's lights flickered on and off to the beat of the band. Pretty cool, Baytown.
PS. Probably for @Alpha Wolf . I didn't see Eaglin play, but I kept seeing the Comeaux kid running the ball. What's up with Eaglin?

I hate to see any kid get hurt, but we are only giving up 7 points a game so don't expect much more...

ThirdDay reacted to sahen in Realignment Talk
It would be nice if they balanced the 3 schools and played each other. I figure that would help travel cost as well since all of your sports would have 2 of their opponents across town. The way it is right now with all 3 in different districts is not ideal in my mind. Would make some nice, healthy competition along with some natural rivals. All of those are fun things when your in high school.
Maybe that is just a pipe dream though. Lee is smaller in size than Sterling and GCM so maybe the best we can hope for is Sterling and GCM to be the same size and Lee to be the smaller school. We shall see....
It would be interesting to see a district with GCCISD, Barber's Hill, Dayton, and Crosby all playing each other one day, but first things first is GCCISD has to all be in one district.

ThirdDay reacted to Blockdownandkickout! in BH / Baytown Sterling Scrimmage
Sterling was really bad, BH scored 7 times to Sterlings zero. Sterling didn’t even get a first down till the third quarter. The scrimmage ran four 10 min quarters with a five min half. The Rangers are in for a long year. BH looked good but it’s hard to tell considering the opponent.
Sterling needs to do whatever they can to make sure that when realignment happens They get out of 6A.

Maybe they get lucky and get grouped with the Pasadena schools next year.

ThirdDay reacted to RidinTheRange in 2018 North Shore
5 reasons why North Shore is the best team (maybe ever)...
1. They have the best football player in the country, Zach Evans, and they only use him about 1/3 of the game. I can't imagine if he got all the touches.
2. #5 for Lake Travis is suppose to be one of the top receivers in the nation, they manned him up with their own #5, and didn't think twice. Kid shut him down.
3. Offensive/Defensive Lines... they're bigger, quicker, and meaner on both sides of the ball in the trenches
4. The QB... He's almost as big a threat as the RB, the extra player you can't account for (and he can pass!!!).
5. #2... This Middle linebacker is special. I have seen some in his league, but it's a very short list, and it's taken over 20 years to compile.

WB just looked like a team playing a team that they knew they had beat before they got off the bus. That said they will probably play a little better next week.
As far as sterling man there is no excuse for some of the cheap shots they took. Both players should have been tossed or benched in my opinion.

Nah, he didn’t throw his shirt to the ground. Just took it off on the field when he was still representing the team and school. He had a plain shirt underneath but it’s just a bad look, especially after a loss.

Yep. I was watching with my binoculars. Never once got on to a kid never showed they were upset with kid and didn’t ever pull the kid off the field. Classless. There’s a reason they have a big goose egg in the win column

Sterling had ton of unsportsmanlike penalty’s. But never did i see a coach chew any ass for committing them.

Oh there’s plenty of just football talent to win in Baytown if all three schools combined. If you took the 6-7 best Oline from all 3 schools. Best 6-7 d-line best 7-8 lbs best 6-8 Db’s best 3 Qbs best 4 Backs and best 8 WRs from all 3 schools we have RIGHT NOW compete out the gate with coaching. Then you have a few for depth as well.
Problem is those that may be 5-8th on the depth chart don’t care enough about winning to want to have to compete.

Our Baytown athletes tend to "specialize" in one sport. We have had some kids that would have really helped our football programs play only baseball or basketball. Same at all three schools. Maybe combining the schools would allow more kids to do that. Right now, it hurts us.
Somehow, we need to start winning games. Everyone wants to be part of a winning program. Even kids that specialize in one sport. Having to compete in practice every day makes everyone better. With what we have now, most kids know their position is not in jeopardy. Combining the schools would help in that aspect.
I refuse to place the blame on only coaching. I have always believed it's not x's and o's, it's Larrys and Joes. Coaches at all levels make mistakes. However, I have never met a coach that did not want to win.

Can anyone name the last good coach sterling had? I can't remember it has been so many years. The sad part is the cycle keeps repeating. Lets get some quality and integrity with our next hire. The culture has got to change for success to follow and that is the adults role in this process. Lets get a coach that demands athletes and coaches go to off-season/work weekends/build relationships with the athletes etc... There are plenty of successful programs in the area, go visit and see how its done the right way.
