Kountze will probably be fighting for the 4th spot. They are young and small. The nights the long ball is falling they’ll be competitive when it’s not they’ll struggle to compete. Their biggest shortcoming is lack of depth. They are thin in that department. I don’t know what’s happened to Warren, It doesn’t look like they play much in the off season. OF/EC are the class of the district this year followed closely by Buna/Anahuac/Kountze 

what do u mean something deeper?? Lumberton didn’t have a a div 1 player the other two times Lumberton made the playoffs..the kid worked hard and then became one..and let’s be honest He s at Lamar.  Bottom of d1 as of now.  If Lumberton didn’t make the playoffs with such kid then I can understand the hate, but they did make the playoffs as well won a DC.
Lumberton had made playoffs 4 times in 60 years, their head coach been a part of all 4, 3 as head coach and 1 as a player

San Augustine won state in football a few years ago and almost immediately got rid of the coach. I don’t think it’s lack of athletes 🤷‍♂️

If I am a high school basketball coach in this area, I would not waste my time scheduling any Houston ISD school. They are as unprofessional as they come. Two games were canceled this week, one without any notice. Houston Yates was scheduled to play  at Little Cypress-Mauriceville today but called and canceled the game on Monday. Then, without notice, Houston Furr no showed for their game last night at West Orange-Stark. This is not the first time (nor will it be the last) that a Houston ISD school pulled this unprofessional move.
In regards to the Yates/LC-M game, LC-M had already played at Yates the last two seasons. All Coach Jeffcoat was wanting was a return game. When I saw the game on the schedule and the date that it was to be played (last day to play before Christmas break) first thing I thought was Yates backing out of the game. When I got the phone call from Coach Jeffcoat Monday, I was not surprised. There was some excuse given but IMO, the reason for Yates canceling was more about not being able to afford losing to a team like LC-M, which they would have.
Furr not even showing and not calling WO-S to cancel the game is as unprofessional as it gets. Decisions like this is why HISD is looked down upon by others in the state. This all comes from the top (HISD admins). Schools like LC-M and WO-S simply don't matter to them and could careless about any ramifications.
As far as I am concerned, I hope no area school ever schedules a Houston ISD school. Simply not worth the potential aggravation of losing a scheduled game.

There will be a special tribute for Silsbee's Jayce Jones before the game. Both teams will be wearing special warm up tops honoring Jayce.
I have seen the tops and they are very cool.

I agree. He is a solid player for Warren. Only thing I noticed tonight is he doesn't drop step to his left side enough. Always goes to the right. He could have had 30 tonight had he took advantage of his left side.

Kountze will be fine. Outside of Sells, 1 kid logged Varsity minutes last year. And those were very limited. They have played 3 games. The player that is no longer with the team is an athlete, and they miss his length, but the ones that are there are some hard working kids. I expect them to be pretty competitive in district this year. The following few seasons should be a fun watch as well. Couple really talented players coming up the line.

Probably not any more common than anywhere else, Joub holds em accountable . Good for him, if stuff isn’t addressed it always comes back to haunt you. 

I don’t think they have a lot of length on that pressure defense this year. They’ll have some games where they blow people out when the 3 ball is falling and some where teams will beat them that shouldn’t.

Kountze is small not only in height and length but in numbers. Only suiting out 8 and only 7 play. Hard to press full time with that roster. Joubert had to kick off a couple of kids, one who would have started for sure and been their second best player behind the soph. Sells. He would have been that dawg player for them. Rebounding and defense.
Kountze will live and die by the three (finished 8/33 in LC-M game). Sells can only do so much for them. He will need others to contribute.
Future is certainly brights for the Lions with playing so many soph. but I believe this year, no better than 3rd in district is about what I expect them to finish.

This season, more so than any other that I can remember in my 15 or so years on SETXsports, we're having a major problem with multiple posters from multiple teams continually bashing, criticizing, and insulting various area coaches.  Moderators have had to post the no coach-bashing rule in multiple threads that have gone off the rails due to complaints about coaching.  There are ways to express yourself without violating this rule.  If you can't find a way to do so, I'd suggest avoiding the topic completely.   I don't care if WOS goes 2-8, if Vidor runs the ball up the middle 200 times in a row, or if Hull-Daisetta doesn't listen to the experts and mismanages the clock while calling the wrong plays.  Anyone who violates this rule during the remainder of the season is receiving an immediate one-week ban.  Violations are decided by moderator discretion.  If you continue to violate the rule once you return you will be banned permanently.  If you're about to make a post about coaching, but you're not sure if it's okay, don't make it.  Save your opinion for facebook, or better yet, go to the game and scream it in the stands with the other coaching experts.  It's important to remember that while our site encourages healthy discussion, we demand an atmosphere of respect towards our local players, coaches, and communities, no matter your opinion of their performance..  Please remember that this post is your free warning.  Any questions about this rule, or about a post you'd like to make, may be sent to myself or other moderators in private message for clarification without repercussions.  Below, for the fiftieth time, is the rule that so many of you continue to violate.  Thank you, and happy posting.

Kevin Foster consistently makes deep playoff runs with kids that buy into a system. He had the Angele kid a few years ago who was as good a pure shooter as I’ve ever seen. Other than that not many Stud players in Dallardsville. Kevin is the most underrated coach in our area. 

They also have another little shooter that’s going to be a Sophomore that can fill it up from deep. If the Lions grow a little to make that press a little harder to go over the top of they are gonna start turning some heads. 

Saw that game as well.  He couldn’t miss! 

I watched Angel in a game over at the HJ Marathon his senior year where he put on one best 3 point shooting performances I’ve ever seen. I think they were playing Nederland but I can’t remember for sure. He was just unconscious from deep. It was a lot of fun to watch 

Mckinney was his name, special player as well. Most think they would've beat Thorndale that year if he was at 100%, hurt his knee earlier in the playoffs and wasn't close to the same. 

I think it was like a 3 way tie wasn’t it? I think I remember a multiple play in type scenario. Kountze was really YOUNG and is on the verge of having something special, EC graduated 1 player. For this hire to make Buna the favorite it would have to be a tremendous upgrade which I don’t know much about coach Wilson . Whitmire was good one but the guys in EC and Kountze are special. 

I don't think he's underrated.  I believe that anyone that knows anything about basketball places him very high on their list of best coaches around here for sure.  Arguably any area.
