It is all relative. The premier guys from any high school are normally going to go to major colleges. That doesn't mean that the only high school players worth signing are the ones that go to UT? There is second tier talent at local high schools just like everywhere else. Your post makes no sense. Granted, we probably can't win a national championship with local talent only but we certainly could with a majority local roster. Really, I prefer we recruit locally first but I'm not going to boycott the team or anything if we sign an All American from Michigan or New York or wherever.
If you honesty believe you can win in even D-2 collegiate football without getting out of your backyard to recruit then you can get used to getting beat consistantly.WB and Lumberton had pretty good high school programs that these kids came off of but the difference between a pretty good high school player and a pretty good D-2 recruit isn't even close.I know coach Woodard was successful at Navarro and I don't mean to imply that he should be winning the conference in his second year.He will get Lamar on the right track but he won't do it with a roster full of local players.Sorry if that hurts your feelings but it's a fact.

We have gotten completely out of hand with the playoff numbers and the all district picks.Send 2 teams to the playoffs and pick your 11 best players on the all district club and teach everyone to work harder if they want the prize at the end of the season.

43-0 would have been a close game for some our opponents this year ::) I know that's not alot of fun for the players on the short end but you don't quit once the game starts. If you can't compete , don't start. If you start don't quit. -

Warren vs. Hardin Game Thread/Hardin wins!
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Warren has shown some improvement unfortunately it still hasnt produced a win.I honestly don't know what the answer is other than getting the kids that are in the program into weight room and also getting more numbers in the program. Most of the skill players are juniors who have started for 2 seasons so youth is no longer the problem.Sad thing is they can improve tremendously and still have to line up on fridays against EC/Newton etc.Not sure how many consecutive they have lost but it has to be at least 25. -

It's great to see people contribute to their communities simply because it's the right thing to do.Sounds like a fine man who will be remembered even after he leaves. -
I was watching the game on TV and happened to hear that Sam Houston didn't have any recruits that came from the local clubs while Lamar was continously calling players name from Lumberton,Kelly, WB etc. This is not a knock on local clubs but it is impossible to build a successful college program when you recruit that heavily locally.

Some good arms in Warren for the upcoming season.

Woodville vs. Warren Game Thread/Woodville wins 54-0!!
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I'm not a foobal guru and I know the tradition in Newton/EC and elsewhere can't be questioned but you have to look to start with strength and conditioning to build a football program.Numbers wise Warren isn't the smallest school in the district yet in numbers and size of their players they have been smaller than every opponent they have played this season.I have seen other programs turned around in Warren by the players and community buying in to a new coaches system. While I don't look for the Warriors to challenge for a playoff spot anytime soon I think given time this young coach will have them respectable in football. And in all honesty that will be an accomplishment. -
Hillister, It seems like you have asked this type of question before. You obviously are a person that wants to stir things up for your coach, and I don't understand why. If you don't like the direction the program is going, then get a teaching certificate, pay your dues as a coach, and then try to become the Head Coach at Warren. Give the guy some time. The program is not going to turn around over night. Looking at the score, it wasn't the coaching that was the problem. In my opinion, a coach's job is more than simple wins and losses. The Coach needs to be a person that instills discipline on the students, is a good role model for the students, and teaches the sport of football as a game of life.
I agree wreckem.I believe the coach has a good scheme, he's just going to have to get his kids in the weight room and bulk them up a little on both the o=line and the d-line.I am curious about the young man that has had the ejections.I'm not close to the program but I know he will have to address that if it's gonna get turned around. -

If that's his 2nd ejection 5 games into the season he may need to look for another sport.Regardless of the sport, to turn a program around it ALL starts with discipline. -
Woodville vs. Warren Game Thread/Woodville wins 54-0!!
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
It usually takes 2 to fight. What went on here? I saw a player ejected in Warrens first game and I hope this wasn't the same one. -
Newton had every chance to beat Silsbee is who is solid so they definitely aren't overated, EC is just solid as always. The kids at EC don't get enough credit. They just keep winning year after year.
-
Injuries will tell the tale here but I don't see but a 4 team race.EC/Newton/Anahuac/Buna=the team that stays healthy wins it.

Warren vs Woodville/ Predictions or comments
whsalum replied to eagleswoodville#1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I agree with ya bruno, Coach Barbay is doing a good job.The Warriors just need to get the numbers up and buy in to what it takes in the off season.I think they suited up 26 players in the first game of the season. The guys they have on the field give it all they have which is all you can ask of them. -
Warren vs Woodville/ Predictions or comments
whsalum replied to eagleswoodville#1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Sheer numbers and size put Warren at a disadvantage.I'm not sure what the answer is to get more kids in to the program and in to the weight room in the off season but until that question gets answered the Warriors are gonna struggle. This district has some solid clubs but it has about 3 or 4 different levels of competition.Newton/Anahuac/Buna /EC then Hardin/Woodville followed by Kountze/Warren.There will be 1 pretty solid team on the outside looking at the playoffs.Woodville wins this game by about 3 touchdowns. -

Games at Dewyville and I really wish I could pick this one with my heart instead of my head but D-Ville probably wins at home in a close one.I'll say 20-12 but I 'm still yelling for the Warriors. -
