Gotta disagree with this one. If a kid is an offensive player he will score regardless of the team he's on, it is often harder for a kid on a less talented team to score because everyone is geared to stop him. There is nothing at all wrong with playing on a good balanced team but an 11 point player on a good team will be an 11 point player on a bad team. The best example of a MVP discussion comes from a couple of years ago in this same district.Tyler Copeland was the MVP but wasn't on the best team by any stretch, if anyone would have picked 5 players to start a team that year he would have been the first player picked.
-
If he put up 363 in district games he definitely should get the nod, thats 30.25 a game which are super stats in anyones books. If he put those numbers up over a season the it's somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 pts a game. The Estes kid has been a solid lil player for the last several years.Sometimes it's tougher on kids on not so good teams to score because the defenses are geared to stop them.
-
There will always be a difference in opinion on the superlatives, that comes from people who follow some teams closer than others. The real issue these days are the number of folks who receive the awards. When you have over 50% of the district making all district it waters down the selection process to the point the kids that deserve it aren't recognized for their hard work.

Warren vs. Hardin Game Thread/Warren wins/Comments
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Good job Warriors.I knew this club was gonna be pretty salty and they are young at alot of positions.I saw the little left hander from Buna pitch a really good game at Warren last week.He wasn't overpowering but had good control of several pitches and really hit his spots. This district may not be overpowering this year but is really even and fun to watch. -
I would want to see each of them play 3-4 times before I could even start to give an opinion and then still it would be tough because some players play very well against average competition but when it goes to the next level they are no where to be found. I like to see a player against the best competition 3-4 times and then I can usually tell if he can play. There have been players I have seen play once against good competition and I knew they had the skills to do that the majority of the time. For example, Kirie Irving from Duke, you can just tell by watching him move and see the floor that he can play. He is very smooth and always thinking and under control. I hope he comes back to Duke next year with the Rivers kid. That would be a tough backcourt.
Excellent post East texas bb.I didn't see the kid from Channelview or Crosby but saw the rest of these kids several times. While Prudhomme isn't on the list he took his game to a different level in the playoffs and would have to be cosidered. There are some kids who just disappear when the competition gets tough. If I were going to have a poll it would include Prudhomme,Sells from Woodville and the kid from Lufkin Hudson.
-
Somebody must be trying to build their Karma with this poll.I saw most of these players several times and the best one on this list was DC Stallworth.Another snap shot in the playoffs and Iwould have said Prudhomme from HJ was the best. The guys on this list are solid players but MVP for SETX ???

Who will be the new head Cardinal?

It would be nice to see a charge back in the Montagne. There would be no shortage of intensity. -
If this is the best they can do expanding the field they need to go back to 64.
-
I predict Silsbee and HJ will fill up the gym again a couple of times and play again at Huntsville for a state berth. The Hawks in another down year will probably win 30 again LOL.
-
I know it's a topic every year on the message boards but the all district selections have gotten completely out of hand. These awards at one time were for kids who excelled at their sport. We have gotten to the point now where over half the district makes all district which kinda dilutes what the kids that deserved the awards have accomplished.I'm all for letting the kids that play enough quarters earn a lettermans jacket but not everyone that laces up the sneakers is an all district player.

Idalou won a football title also I believe so they must of had a pretty solid group.

Amen, He has played well all season and is very deserving.

Schools drop in state funding
whsalum replied to PoppaBearstarr's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This is nothing new in the education arena. The state has mandated what the schools will be required to do for years without having to supply the money. In some cases the wealthy districts could survive while the poorer districts have to make tough cuts. When you set behind that desk and have to make RIF cuts it's an extremely tough decision. One that I hope to never have to make again. It will make some of the districts with sattelite schools be more responsible with their spending. -
No surprise for me to see the Nederland Bulldogs playing so well, when you watch the Coach English clubs they are always as well prepared as anyone. The Hawks of HJ just continue to play fundamental basketball. You look at their lineups before the season and say hey it's a down year coming but you make your reservations to Huntsville because you know they got a shot and then you look up and they have won 30.Coach Williams at Evadale and Coach West at Anahuac both did terrific jobs with their rosters this year. The officials need to settle their differences and put this chapter back together again. They need to have a group of mentors to train the young guys and gals and have them earn their stripes calling sub varsity and jr high games. And last but not least the seasoned officials need to be encouraged to get in shape to stay in position on the floor to make the calls. And one final observation, I hope Travis Williams gets his health lined out and can return to the bench where he adds so much to the rivalry games we've come to enjoy so much.Good luck Coach T.
wheres the nut that said EVADALE was from a week district now you just lost your accountability. ha ha
Not sure what to make of this trophyman ??? Would you say that Evadales playoff sucess was related to them coming out of a tough district ??? Playoff basketball is all about matchups and momentum with some luck thrown in along the way.The Rebels should be congratulated for a super year. Coach Williams had them prepared after playing a good non district schedule. When you look at the playoff brackets alot of the better clubs knocked each other off along the way.I'm not sure what happened to them in the playoffs but Cayuga was the best 1-a club I saw this year. This group will be hard to replace for the Rebels they have been solid in all the sports.

should Evadale get any all state awards

Just saw where Tucker was selected to the All State All Tournament team.Congrats the the young man on a great accomplisment.I saw on a clip last night the kid from Eula was 2 points short of the 1-a record with 76 points in 2 games.Haven't looked up the record yet but the kid was a real solid player. -
I wish I would have known what time they were playing.Lots of sophs on this Warren club that should get better with every game.
-
As we put the wraps on another high school basketball season lets hear some opinions on the season that just concluded. What do ya'll think about the state of the game.Officiating, clubs who were up and coming and some that may have took a step back.Anything that can get us ready for next year in what I consider the greatest sport played-HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL
-
Just one of the challenges high school coaches deal with these days.I can't imagine a kid leaving his team mates high and dry like that.I know we put too much empasis on high school sports sometimes but this is a wound that will take years to heal. Can you imagine how sweet it would have been in Jamaica in June talking about winning the state title.

Just looking at stats because I wasn't able to see anything but film clips Tucker may have gotten some consideration.
