Warren vs. West Hardin Game Thread/West Hardin wins!
whsalum replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Got my first glimpse of the Warriors tonight and it wasn't pretty.Gonna have to find a way to give the QB some protection or it's gonna be a long season. The Oilers looked pretty good. Both clubs came out of this one injury free so that was a positive. -

I just wish the basketball program hadn't been completely abandonded.
Warren is a young team but has a lot of varsity experience in Perfect, Gray, Murray, and Lambright.... Coach Kevin Barbay has done well by all the athletic programs in Warren, baseball made the playoffs, tennis did really well and BASKETBALL won more district games last year than they had in a long time. Coach Barbay is a football guy by all means but he HAS NOT abandoned ANY program at Warren, he is a big help at turning the Warriors around.
I know the kids well that you mentioned and they did get some valuable experience last year and will be much improved this year. They are some pretty talented guys in the junior class.I think the baseball club will be in the hunt for a district title this coming season. The tennis team at Warren has been pretty good at Warren for several years with teams in the state tournament as recently as 2 years ago.I think Coach Barbay will do a great job as AD but you may want to do a little research on the basketball program.I believe they were 1-11 in district last year. They are coached by the defensive secondary coach and I didn't see them playing anywhere this summer.Maybe abandoned the program is the wrong wording but I haven't seen any emphasis on the basketball program. -

The key is to be ACTIVE in the zone.A ton of the most successful high school programs play a lot of zone with traps at the 3/4 and 1/2 court intervals. If it's played corrrectly you aren't hiding in a zone, just the opposite.

Ceveland lost a ton of talent last year.I don't see how they could even be close to what they were.

New Big Sandy Assistant Coach
whsalum replied to bigbasketballfan's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
CATMAN, That wasn't a slap at Coach Issacs at all.I think he is fine young coach and I know a ton of the parents at Spurger thought the world of him as did the players.I don't claim to know any of these youngs guys personal decisions but I like to see them move up the head coaching ranks once they get that first shot.He did a good job at Spurger and hope he does well at Big Sandy in the future. -
New Big Sandy Assistant Coach

I hate to see that, this is a good young coach. He has a lot to learn but was really good with the kids and is on his way to making a top notch coach. -
Lots of GOOD jobs coming open !!!!

Who will be the next Silsbee Tiger basketball coach?
Joubert to Silsbee? More money and more talent!
I don't think the wage scale difference would be huge in 2 districts 10 miles apart and the cupboards haven't been exactly bare in Kountze.I hope Duane gets whichever job he wants BUT the Kountze basketball job is about as good as it gets in small school hoops. ;) -
I've been doing a little research on the Frontier and have a friend that has a new 22 footer. It is built by Mr. Kenner and has a great ride and is built to fish.Biggest trouble I have had is finding folks that have them.
-
Gotta be a school district boundary line somewhere south of Beaumont regardless of what their mailing address is. ::) ::)
translation- Joubert
Duane would do good job. I don't claim to know anything about the salary but the job would be almost a lateral move. Both are well established programs with perennial deep playoff runs. -
Coach Bartlett always does a good job and Huntington looks to be on the upswing from what I've seen the last year or so .Hard to get a program on a top notch level when the head coaches seat opens up every few years.
-
Then they should play in Beaumont ;D
A local prominent coach is having a meeting tomorrow (Monday) with Silsbee admins. ;)
There are a lot of local prominent coaches in this area ;D -
Surely you can't just choose where you want to play these day, can you ??? ??? ::) ;D
-
Been some awful good basketball coaches come thru Huntington over the past several seasons. They need to work as hard on keeping them as they do on getting them, JMO.
-
I stil like WOS for the third spot, they have a good young coach and a wealth of athletes but by even having this topic you can tell HF is turning their program in the right direction.

Coach Brooks did a good job last year when Travis had the health issues and is a natural fit.No disrespect to either of the coaches from Leggett or Spurger but Silsbee would be a huge step.
Well Whsalum what about Lester King would it be a huge step for him.-----------NO NO
Don'tget me wrong CATMAN I didn't say the Leggett or Spurger coach wouldn't be successful,I said it would be a huge step and it would.Coack King's record speaks for itself but the surroundings would be entirely different at the Tiger Den than they are at Goodrich. If I were going to look strictly at small school guys (which I wouldn't just look at small school guys)I wouldn't overlook the man at Evadale,he did a pretty good job last year. All that being said I think the guy that deserves the Silsbee job is already there. -
We had the same situation in NW last year with our basketball coach. Another great guy and was very successful like yours. The community stood behind him as Kountze should stand behind Coach Joubert. Football it seems overrides loyalty, respect, success, dedication, and just plain doing the right thing. These adminstrators and school boards have ther own agenda and don't care who they hurt in the process. The kids are the farthest thing from the equation, it's what they want. I can't understand how you can lose one of the most successful coaches in the state for the sake of giving a mediocre football coach some extra money. athletic Director is an administrative position anyone should be eligible for it, to me that is discrimination saying it has to be the football coach. They come in stay a couple years and try to get the bigger job, they always do.
Can I get an AMEN !!!!!

Duane knows how to get the kids attention and gets them to buy in to his style.I think he would be a great fit at the AD.He probably knows more fooyball than any of the recent hires they have made.
Lamar PA had its best season when he was an assistant for one year, The recruits that he attracted have put a great stamp on an up and coming program. The Head coach left and Lamar PA did notwant to guarentee him a contract so he did not get fired. He was laid off with pay at the last private school position, which is not fired. Wilmer Hutchingson was a strange issue at most. They were winning at a new school before he walked his team off the court. He has an opinion of what happenned and so does the school board. He left Prarie Veiw to pursue head coaching on a high school level. The Wnnie job was releavd of duties issue. So I count relieved twice! ;D
Come on ABSENT his one year as an assistant at Lamar Pt Arthur they were 2-17 I believe in conference and were 9-19 on the year. They brouhgt in the young guy that is there now and one 20 games the next season.
