I haven't seen Somerville but Spurger is playing well at the right time.As weird as it sounds the many injuries the pirates suffered during the season are helping them now.This is a great reflection of a TEAM effort and the young coach deserves credit for that.Good luck pirates.

I said Woodville played some good clubs and got beat pretty bad and Anahuac played Nederland tough.I was not only looking at each club individually but also how they did against good teams.

Evadale had to be my biggest surprise this season.atahe Wilkins kid has that program headed in the right direction.This is a tough loss but a good season overall for the Rebels.

Bullard looked to me like they could be dangerous earlier in the year.

It's a shame the way the bracket is layed out some of the really good teams will beat each other up.I haven't seen Centerville but they are usually pretty decent.

[/quote]I wasn't downing the team just commenting on the size of club.There are some very good players on this club but if every starter on every team in this district made all district you would have 30 players.You have 28 players on this list.Are there really that many standout players in the district ? I have also seen other teams with more players but not in a 6 team district. I just happen to think that the players that excel should be recognized and it's just a fact of life that not all players excel.I have wished many times I had gone in to coaching but I don't think it would fix this.

Was Newton the second or 3rd seed in this district??

We hear all the time about big school basketball but the loser of these 3 games scored 29,37 and 47 points respectively.With the type of baskeball players that are in Beaumont there is no reason not to be able to score.You won't beat anyone scoring 29 points in the regular season must less the playoffs.There are some small school guys that could elevate these programs but I don't know why they would want to work in BISD.Wait let me think,anyone that can pay their superintendent 300k could probably make you find a reason.

Ya'll need to play doubleheaders you're killing an old guy on these late nights.

I've seen the clubs and looked at the records and the competition both clubs have played.Woodville played some tough clubs but lost handily to them.If I'm not mistaken Anahuac took a very good Nederland club to overtime before losing by a couple.I'll be the first to admit I was shocked by Newton,the last few years when Ross was over there they had a deep bench and a very good ball club.When I saw they beat Woodville late in the year I figured they had to be pretty good.If they are they didn't show it last Saturday.That was the reason for my pick.You can't judge this years eagle team  against last years by their district record because the district isn't anywhere close to where it has been in the past.The final reason for my pick is the Anahuac coach,he does a great job.I'll be the first to congratulate Woodville if they win but my pick is the Panthers.

Yes, the one at the end I would agree with.The others probably should have been shooting fouls but I don't know about the possession.It's no secret that clubs are gonna foul to stop the break but you don't often see 5 possessions awarded after the foul.

I hate to throw a damper on the the thread because I'm all for recognizing the players in a district that excel but come on folks take a closer look at this.This is a 6 team district so you would have 30 players that would be starters in the district.There are 28 players on this list.It looks like awards day at little dribblers.These awards should be for the players that performed the best. One more observation, The Silsbee coach did an outstanding no doubt but if you look at the all district picks he had the district co mvp and 2 first teamers.I believe Silsbee lost 4 district ball games. The HJ coach had a co mvp 1 first teamer and the newcomer of the year on a club that went 10-0.How that can't get the nod as coach of the year is beyond me.

Good job tonight by the hawks.Some questionable flagrant fouls called in this one but also one that was probably justified.

I don't think the first round games will be real entertaing.HJ and Tarkington will play at Kountze which is close but will be a blowout.The games at Winnie have AL T's as a real attractive sidebar.I'm gonna have to think about this one.

High school basketball is all about matchups.Does NW have any bigs that can matchup with Kountze's 1-2 punch ?? Kountze will be hard to beat this year but a good PG can give them trouble attacking the middle,Hill proved that Saturday.I think Kountze wins this one by 10.
