1.
Ben West = great coach! He is the best coach in the area outside of Sutherland.
Coach West does a great job,I knew he would turn the program around at Anahuac pretty quick. Some of the best coaches in the state set in the second seat at HJ,Silsbee and Kountze. The next time you watch any of these 3 clubs watch these guys. All 3 schools have very good head coaches but the assistants at these schools coach their a$$ off.
2. I'll agree he will be a guard if he plays college ball, but he doesn't handle it well enough now to play guard at that level. He is somewhat out of control when he has to push the ball up by himself. That is not his strength.
3. I'm guessing you lost the dare :)
4.

But Team True Blue is also claiming they are Sour Lake bound.
So let me get this timeline straight. Sophomore year at Evadale, junior year at East Chambers, and now next year, his senior year, at Hardin-Jefferson. Who does he think he is, Troy House? I will be very surprised to see him at HJ.
I don't think you can play JV as a senior :)
5. I was surprised that Devin would handle the ball at all unless it is on the break. His game is finishing on the end of the break.Kountze has an outstanding club but NW didn't come in as the #1 for no reason. The big 2 have to be congratulated for a great year but you can't overlook Whisenant and Johnson they have both been tremendous players for the Lions for several years. When the sting dies down the Lions have to be proud of the season they have had.
6. Tigers get the nod as long as they stay as far away from Lufkin as possible, strange things can happen when you play them at their place .
7. Congrats to the Tigers and the Hawks as well as the Pirates.Let's not forget Coach West and the Anahuac Panthers. They have to be the biggest surprise to make the regional tourney this year.
8.
I'll take the coaches opinions on this subject. ;)
Now that doesn't surprise me considering where the selection is from.I gotta agree with Shack,I think there are a few folks that wouldn't vote for the HJ coach regardless of the record.I didn't get to see the Lady Tigers this year and I've heard nothing but great things about coach Sanders.I saw Washington last year towards the end of the season and she was great. The Tigers were getting better and better evry game toward the end of the season. With the players HJ and O'field lost last year it was a rebuilding year for both those clubs.Silsbee lost 4 district ballgames with a Co Mvp and 2 first teamers while HJ went 10-0 with a young club. We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one.
9. The lack of a true PG has been the Lions weakness all year. Not only creating on the offensive end but also defending.I was surprised about the rebounding though ,that has been a strength for them this year.
10. Congrats Anahuac, not the club I thought would be in the regional tourney out of this district but I knew coach West would have them playing well.
11. You gotta eliminate second chance points. The Lions have some 3 ball shooters but Brey isn't one of them.Sounds like a low scoring ballgame for the Lions and that usually gets them in trouble.Maybe this will be NW year,I think this will be Kountzes best shot for several years.Congrats to the Lions on a good year and a pat on the back to Roman Walker, this kid has been quetly doing a great job for the Lions for years and will be missed on the local hardwood by not only the Lions but the fans of the game as well.
12. Glad to see folks realizing how important coaching is in high school basketball.I've said it for years ,it's no accident that good teams follow good coaches around wherever they go.I said the same thing about the Spurger club all season. The injuries early helped them develope some depth and they are one of the most unselfish clubs you'll see in any classification.I think after tomorrow night we will have Silsbee,HJ,Kountze and Spurger left in the tourney.
13. This gym will hold quite a few. It's a pretty nice facility and is almost dead center so should be a perfect setting. It's a shame all these games are being played on the same night some of us are gonna have to flip a coin.
14. Great job!!! Come on back Dickie V and tells us one more time how it will be impossible to win at LPA.
15. Kountze can make a lot of clubs look average but there were a ton of average clubs in the playoffs this year and even some below average ones.
16. Kounzte has had a controlled running game for years and it is extremely effective. They run a zone press and when you beat it they fall back into a viscous zone trap. They usually have some quick bigs, year in and year out, that run the trap and make it very hard to go over the top.Don't be confused in to thinking that because what they do is controlled it isn't running. This is one of the main reasons Silsbee was able to beat Rudder, there wasn't anything new happening to them. The free throw shooting is just confidence and momentum, once it starts going bad it's like a snowball.
17. I haven't seen Somerville but Spurger is playing well at the right time.As weird as it sounds the many injuries the pirates suffered during the season are helping them now. This is a great reflection of a TEAM effort and the young coach deserves credit for that.Good luck pirates.
18.

So we can all agree that it is ultimately Gabe's fault for posting the Hon. Mention kids.... Shame on you Gabe for causing all this controversy!!!  hahahaha :D ;D
My bad guys, my bad  :D
At least it got a little action going on the ladies board  ;D But if you want controversy you gotta look at the coach of the year.I said earlier if you didn't give it to Janet from HJ you may as well quit giving it.I stand by that post now,for a coach to take over a program returning only 2 starters and go 10-0 and not get COY would be a joke if it wasn't so ridiculous.
19.
Yeah I am still taking Cleveland all the way past Hardin-Jefferson in 2010!!! You HJ folks live in yesteryear it appears!
HJ has won for so long it won't be yester year, it would be yester years ;D ;D
20.

I think Anahuac wins this one by a dozen. Anahuac-72 Woodville-60
Now, I just gotta ask. Is your prediction based on the fact that you've seen both teams play or is this kind of like the Newton prediction last week when you said they were going to outdepth Spurger with their 7 guys even though you hadn't actually seen them  play???? I only ask because you may be right about Anahuac winning by a dozen but I don't want a guy taking credit for a good call unless he's actually seen both teams play.
I quess that pretty well covers it.Congrats to the Panthers on the win and to the Eagles on a good season.
21. Just pick em all and save the districts the trouble of traveling to the meeting. ;D ;D
22.
Count the MVPs as first team, 5 girls plus the 6 on first team that's 11...What team do you know of that only plays with 5 people? None.  I think the amount is good, I just think one team should have done a lot better with the picks they got.   :-X
I can agree with that, if you had 11 all district player because no one plays with just 5.It's when you add the other 17 slots it gets kinda watered down.
23.
I graduated from Lufkin but have spent a lot time in the last several years around Woodville, following their sports as well. this year's team is doing some pretty good things that this basketball program hasn't seen in a while. Yes this year's district weaker than in years past but this group of kids will accomplish a lot in the postseason. I've seen both teams play, and it's a pretty evenly matched game. Both have good point gaurds, Woodville's is better at getting to the rim, and then you have two scorers in Anahuacs #3 and Woodvilles #23. whsalum, how you can you make your predictions on a game because anahuac played well against WOS and woodville got beat bad by silsbee?  ??? i agree with wildcat 29, yea woodville lost one in newton but anahuac lost at home to EC?? let the two teams play and we'll see who's right
Where did I mention Silsbee or WOS ??? I said Woodville played some good clubs and got beat pretty bad and Anahuac played Nederland tough.I was not only looking at each club individually but also how they did against good teams.
24. Evadale had to be my biggest surprise this season.atahe Wilkins kid has that program headed in the right direction. This is a tough loss but a good season overall for the Rebels.
