[b]Jerrel Sykes [/b] from Coldspring is a major player and was All-Region last year. The problem this year, our district is so weak and Coach Northrup's style of basketball (continous press/ guard related half court offense) some very talented players on our team go unnoticed. They will shine once we play some talent and forces the coach to use his 6'3 post ([b]Lamar Denson[/b]) and his 6'4" forward/center ([b]Casey Lilley[/b]). For now they do the non-clamourious jobs, like set picks, rebounds, screens, and shut down people on Defense. Once Play-offs start we will see who's left on top of the list.

There is a reason it was their worst game they played. Either Coldspring was under-estimated, Cleveland over-estimated theirself, or both happened. I seen a good JV team with attitude but they will never make-up for the last four years of dominance. No matter how much the fans or parents want it. I'm sure there will be just as many Coldspring fans (students don't count) in your gym than Cleveland because most of Cleveland knows what is going to happen. Try not to be mad this time.

[/quote] My assessment is watching Coldspring play them and watching from the previous four years these kids from all the district played each other from 7th grade up. I knew unless the sophmores won 4 straight National Little Dribblers or won in AAU like the Graduated Cleveland players did, they would not help Cleveland's problem. Winning at Campbell Park does not count. Huffman and Splendora played a better game against Coldspring and made them work on different parts of their game in practice later. I seen three better teams in district.

We still don't have our legs yet and we missed too many 2 foot shots and free-throws. Kountze stayed focused and looked really good.

And several names were called and those players were standing on the sidelines and never played a snap! we,ve fought officials all season long and it was a shame to see such a determined lack of courtesy or sportsmanship to decide this game! But then again you guys at wimberly were only in this game because in your pursuit of junkyard football drew a team offsides that was getting ready to put you away! way to go JUNKYARD football.Im so frustrated that the true meaning of sportsmanship cant mean a equal game! Coldspring returning all but 6 starters. Two of them started on both sides of the ball.

This may not get penalized, however it is looked down upon much of the time, and it is definitely picked up on by coaches who feel that character is a big part of the game. And of course nobody told you he played dirty, would you approach another kids father to rat on the son for something like that? And one more, lets be real would coaches really be so immature as to conspire or plot against a kid? They have better things to do with their time. [/quote] If you don't think these coaches buy and sell kids, for the other coaches vote your living a dream world. They fight to get the kids they want and will trade their vote to get a vote in the their favor. First and second place teams get the most places and so on, I agree with that, but if the kid is not liked by the coach they will not fight to get the kid anything and will accept what ever excuse they can to justify why they didn't get anything. They have no control of the kids getting in when they dominate the game but if you are a brown-noser he will do everything he can to get that person something. Thats just the way it was and will be for years. It is not a priority of concern for the school. The moral is if you don't get along with the coaches, then know ahead of time you will problaly not get anything in district unless you dominate and take it out of the coaches hand.

Coldspring 28-13. If Coldspring fumbles 3 times or throws 3 ints. then it could go either way. I predicted a 21 point win over WOS and it was 22. It all depends on the turn-overs.

The tougher schedule point, maybe a good point but it didn't work out very well for Gilmer. Thats why you play the game. "The plan for beating our opponents" is to make every prediction board and person think we just had a easy schedule and really not that good. Then bring their world down. Its been working so far. Every team we played had a tougher schedule, so what else do you have, to say Argyle wins this Friday or the next. I believe you have confidence after beating Gilmer but by your same site stats, it may have been a fluke. Thats why tougher schedule stats don't give you a "edge". Our edge is last year we got to practice several more weeks than you.

It looks like you was moved up after your win against Gilmer. So, don't act like the predicitions mean something now. If it does you should of lost to Gilmer. lol. We love when people say we had a easy schedule or easy playoff run. Yes, Wimberly is not easy and our boys are only looking Day by Day but be careful what you ask for. If we both win you will get your shot at this easy scheduled, one dimensional, playoff weak team. I can hear it now when you lose this week or next, like refs suck, ball wet, kids arm hurt, wind blowing or I heard a dog bark and distracted everyone. I hope we play, I don't think our boys are intimidated. Remember everyone on this team scrimaged or was opposite a State Runner-up Player everyday last year at his time, while your boys were shooting free throws. The edge goes to us or Wimberly.

Its not only there,its everywhere. It should be awarded by stats. Thats the only fair way, the system is flawed. My daughter in Coldspring Softball several years ago had a better batting avg., most doubles, most triples, least amount of strike-outs, least amount of errors, and most stolen bases out of the whole district at short-stop and was passed over becasue we was 4th place in district. The two girls that was awarded was on the 1st place team and 2nd place team, and their Coaches demanded the spots because of their team placement. Coaches buy and sell spots to get the picks they want to the kids they want. If your lucky you have a "just" Coach on this issue. I agree its is a lesson, no matter how hard you work, politics rule (same as life). U.I.L. is the only ones that can change the system.

I believe you. We have kids and coaches that look at track as staying in shape for football or the kids play other sports. I only see 3-4 kids make it to Region. Nothing against the kids, they work hard but thats the way it is for us. Cleveland, Huffman, and even Liberty challenge us in track each year with our Juniors.

I don't have dog in the hunt but I see good points on both sides. I agree with WOS, about kids attitude starts at a young age. Coldspring kids are encouraged by all of the community to play Football, Basketball, and Baseball at 4-5 years old. 90% of the kids on the Football team played together when they were 4-5 yrs. old. The parents don't always agree but the Youth Coaches all got along and the same coaches coached every sport and actively seeked kids in the schools to play at a early age. They also made it fun and we always had good teams because the kids believed in the coaches, they did not Daddy Ball it.   The next level is Junior High, without this transition all is lost. The Junior High Coaches is the key for any High Scool Coach that wants a winning program. At this point discipline, fairness from the coach, parent committment and team committment are required. Example: Splendora has good athletes and challenged us in Junior High but the Splendora Coaches cussed and belittled their kids until 50% quite before High School. I could not believe how they trated them. The new AD has now replaced most of them.   Finally you have to have a AD that is committed to the school and community. Barbay or any of the coaches are not scared to talk football with the parents or kids and even explain their actions or moves on the field. But don't ask if you don't want the answer, because if a kid is lacking in ability they will tell you. He will defend his coaches but he holds them accountable. If they don't produce he will find another.   If HJ is going to have a good program the Community needs to come together and brain storm, with the Coaches and School to see how the parents/community can help and look at a program like the WOS tradition to see what works. It may not be in place right away but in 5-6 years will have that tradition. If parents of the High School kids now are trying to get a quick fix, it is not going to happen by replacing the AD. I talked smack when we play but I really do believe WOS has a strong program and could give you a template to work from. No need to reply to my post if don't like it, just food for thought. 

Coaches must of been quick on the stop watch. You can see speed and the only speed I seen this year was by the kid from Crockett. He was a true 4.3 TO 4.4 KID. I was at the NUC, NIKE, and UnderArmour Combines and you can tell right away 4.3, 4.4, or 4.5 speed. WOS has two that are 4.5 (One was not playing) but we have a TE that ran as fast as 5 of their WR or DB's, they are 4.7-4.98 at the NUC. Look it up. I guess they thought they are the only ones at the combines or able to use a computer. I accept that there are good and bad days at these combines but don't show me a apple and say it is a peach, One4All. lol

[/quote] I think he either played corner or saftey.  He would have late hits, helmet to helmet hits and just played dirty. He was out to "put someone out"  I was happy when he was ejected. Most teams titled with bad sportsmanship is actually one or two players.

WE beat WOS Basketball in Bi-District really bad last year. Coldspring only lost two seniors in basketball and I'm sure they will be glad to play you again, [b]if you make it to the play-offs.[/b] Heck, we will even play you in Baseball. I guess our District is not as weak as everyone thought, Liberty scored 13 points on us and even lonely Tarkington scored 8 points. I hate to kick a mule when it is down but Bellville, Lorena, and even BC would beat WOS if they met in the playoffs this year. Don't talk smack to us until you win something. I'm sure you would treat us pour Trojans the same if you won.
