  1. I know that I am behind and need to update this. From Friday: Sabine Pass Santa Fe
  2. I am asking this as I know you know several in the education field, but aren't there buyout requirements of a contracted employee if they walk before the term of their contract is up?
  3. Of course, perhaps the most ironic way to handle it is keep her on the team and select her to carry the flag at the opening ceremony.
  4. I think you may be conflating "can they" with "will they." Can they? Of course they can. There is no legal impediment to the USOPC dismissing her from the Olympic team? Will they? Which I think is what you are getting at. Sadly, you are probably right. In an age where corporate virtue signaling is cool, the committee would probably, privately anyway, figure that the hit in PR that it shouldn't, but will, receive and potential loss of funding from the virtue signaling corporations isn't worth it. They will then justify keeping her by some statement that is, in itself, virtue signaling.
  5. The United States Olympic and Paraolympic Committee (formerly the United States Olympic Committee) is an non-government organization that is funded privately. [Hidden Content]
  6. I do know that for game broadcasts, the UIL has prohibited alcohol advertising. As far as I know, though, they are pretty much silent on non-game broadcasts.
  7. Caveat: By asking the following question, I not implying that Randy Birdwell will be the next head coach at H-D. I don't know if he has even applied for the job or is in consideration for it. I only ask this as he has been mentioned a couple of times as someone that some folks would like to see at H-D. But, if Randy Birdwell is the next head coach at H-D, which offense will he run....the Wing T that has been run forever at H-D....or the spread that he is helping to implement in Jasper?
  8. 64 - Got Lumberton and Kennard from their websites
  9. Normally, I would agree with you. However, this might be one case where the family reasons are legit and not a cover for other issues. Recall, that this is the same Stan Hodges that two years ago stepped away from the football program to see his son play his senior year of football being solely athletic director that school year. That move was signed off on by the superintendent. After his son graduated, he came back to coach the team last year. Now, for that to happen: 1) he had to be pretty happy about Hull-Daisetta to return to coach there instead of looking elsewhere and 2) the Hull-Daisetta powers that be had to be pretty happy with him to allow him to be, for one year at least, probably the only non-coaching AD in 2A and then to allow him back on the field after his hiatus. So, I think that Stan Hodges and the Hull-Daisetta ISD had a good enough relationship that he would still be there if not for the family issues.
  10. Ah, they're all used to hearing fans of non-football sports blame a football program for lack of success. And most of the WO-S fans there also know the reason for most of these folks wanting Cornel Thompson to step down has absolutely nothing to do with the state of the other sports in the West Orange-Cove CISD. And that, my friends, is the real elephant in the room.
  11. I just got off of the phone with Coach Hodges and he is indeed stepping down as both head football coach and athletic director. He will be taking a job as a position coach at Odessa Permian High School. Coach told me that that this move has absolutely nothing to do with anything regarding Hull-Daisetta. He has loved his time there and promises that this year's team will be an extremely competitive group. In fact, he promised the superintendent that he would stay to supervise S&C workouts until a new coach comes aboard to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. Coach informed me that family reasons dictated this move. Both his daughter and his son will be attending college in West Texas and he had been searching for opportunities for a while to coach in that area in order to be close to them. Plus, as a having grown up in Boerne and gone to college at Angelo State, he always considered that part of the state home. Another benefit he stated is that as position coach, he will not be behind an administrative desk as much which he admitted had been a bit of a grind. Good luck at a very storied program, Coach!
  12. I don't know which DCTF was sent to you, but it must be different than the one sent to me. My DCTF magazine has LCM 5th out of 6 teams in 10-4A-I. I don't know if that means DCTF thinks they are much improved.
  13. A note for tomorrow. I am undergoing an annual heart catheterization tomorrow morning in Houston and will be out of pocket most of the day. So I will probably post tomorrow's previews (Coldspring-Oakhurst, Rusk) tonight.
  14. They idea is okay, but the enforcement is horrible. Just a year or two after implementing measures to "speed up" the game, you are now gonna to make it drag on with these countless checks of foreign substances. That will greatly irritate those that claim that baseball's major problem with the current game is that it drones on for too long. Use of foreign substances on the baseball is as old as the hill. Heck, it helped Gaylord Perry to a Hall of Fame career. While the current crackdown might improve things, it is not gonna solve things such as lower batting average and increased strike outs. That will only happen when coaches, analytics guys, and, most of all, players, stop worrying about crap like "exit velocity" and "launch angle" and start worrying about putting the bat on the darned ball!
  15. Juniors are eligible for the baseball draft.

  18. I wish I could my young friend. But unfortunately the final cause can be attributed to operator error.
