2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS SANTA FE INDIANS 2018 Record: 5-6 Overall, 4-3 District 4th Place in District 12-5A-II Whether they knew it or not, the 2018 Santa Fe Indians were on a mission to let the rest of the nation know that the community were well on their way to recovering from the school shooting the previous spring. They did so, qualifying for the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Under new head coach Matthew Bentley, the 2019 Indians will look to be evidence of further recovery. However, Bentley won't be the only new face as only four starters return on offense and two on defense in an effort to give Santa Fe consecutive playoff appearances for the first time in school history. Head Coach: Matthew Bentley Assistant Coaches: Mike Norman (Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks), C.S.Cavness (Defensive Coordinators/Safeties), Greg Watson (Cornerbacks), Jason Harris (Linebackers), Taylor Wolf (Defensive Line), Aaron Hughes (Offensive Line), Joey Cheatham (Running back), Eric Thompson (Wide Receivers), Jared Faust (Freshmen), Andrew Whittington (Freshmen), Ronnie Wolf (Freshmen) Offense: Four starters return to the Santa Fe offense in 2019. Junior Tyler Trexler will step into the quarterback role of the Indian spread offense. Senior wide receiver Nate Hays will be Trexler's primary target along with junior wide out Marcus Villareal. Senior defensive end Reece Dobson return to lead a defensive line which will also include senior defensive end Ryan Irons and senior defensive tackle Christian McArthur. Junior linebackers Tristan Cundiff and Brenton Boehm will be counted on to step up and lead the Indian linebacker corp. Junior safety Bruce Erekson and Trexler will anchor a secondary which will also include sophomore cornerback Noe Rico. Oh, I remember Soulja's texts during Central games. I recall them being grammatically correct. But, I also recall that content would prevent me from re-posting them here. -

Surprised that Soulja did not do that first. I have never seen anyone who hates run-on sentences like he does. -
2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS EAST CHAMBERS BUCCANEERS 2018 Record: 12-2 Overall, 6-1 District Class 3A, Division II, Region III Finalist The East Chambers Buccaneers enjoyed a historic season as Russ Sutherland's charges advanced to the State Quarterfinals which is uncharted territory in Winnie. The 2019 Buccaneers look to repeat, if not exceed, that result. But to do so, Head Coach Russ Sutherland will be relying on a relatively young squad (6 starters return on offense, 2 on defense). Head Coach: Russ Sutherland Assistant Coaches: Christ Fontenot (Defensive Coordinator), Kirk Palmer (Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line), Todd East (Linebackers), Matt De Young (Defensive Backs), Chris Burdette (Running Backs), Jackie Brown (Wide Receivers), Toby Thrasher (Defensive Line), Jason Broomas (Wide Receivers), Scott Penny (Offensive Line), Tyler Chambless (Linebackers), Bryant Collier (Running Backs), Ben West (Defensive Backs) Offense: Six starters return on offense for East Chambers in 2019. Senior quarterback Kam Smith (1st team all-district) will return to lead the Buccaneer offense. Plenty of quality of experience will join him in the backfield as junior running back Ernest Ceasar and senior running back Nolton Shelvin (both 1st team all-district picks) will shoulder the East Chambers rushing load. Senior Isaiah Hart will also see time in the backfield at fullback. Also looking to contribute to the rushing attack will be junior backs Ja'Sean Franklin, Brayden Guillory and Mason Schepf, as well as senior Easton Revia. Senior wide out Alejandro Lopez (2nd team all-district) will lead a Buccaneer receiver corp which will also feature Hart at tight end and newcomers, senior receivers Trent Guidry, Jacory Perrault, and Christian Simien as well as junior wide out Trey Anderson. The Buccaneers will be young on the offensive line as returning junior offensive guard Payton Martin (2nd team all-district, 3 year starter) and junior offensive tackle Colin Broussard will be joined on the line by junior center Tristan Stewart and sophomore guard Slade Parnell. Defense: Two starters return to the East Chambers defense in 2019. The young defensive line will include Stewart, Martin and Franklin at defensive tackle and Parnell at defensive end. The linebacker corp should be the strength of this defense as it features the only 2 starters returning, inside linebacker Hart (Leading tackler in 2018, 1st team all-district) and outside linebacker Simien (2nd team all-district, 2nd leading tackler). They will be joined by Revia, Schepf (at outside linebacker), senior Zack Busby and sophomore Cooper McKay. Free safety Ceasar, freshman safety Jacoby Perrault and cornerbacks Guillory and Anderson will patrol the Buccaneer secondary. Special Teams: Senior kicker Jose Chavez (2nd team all-state and 4 year starter) returns in 2019 to handle the place kicking for East Chambers while senior Jesus Lopez will be counted on to do the punting. The Buccaneers should be explosive in the return game as Ceasar and Shelvin will be returning kicks, if opponents kick to them....something teams avoided last year. Schedule: Aug. 30 - Kountze, 7:30 pm Sept. 6 - at Hardin-Jefferson, 7:30 pm Sept. 13 - at Hamshire-Fannett, 7:30 pm Sept. 20 - OPEN Sept. 27 - Woodville, 7:30 pm* Oct. 4 - at Hardin, 7:30 pm* Oct. 11 - at Orangefield, 7:30 pm* Oct. 18 - Kirbyville, 7:30 pm* Oct. 25 - at Buna, 7:30 pm* Nov. 1 - Anahuac, 7:30 pm* Nov. 8 - at Warren, 7:30 pm*

Okay, guys. I think we are getting a bit far afield in discussing what is, as of now, a hypothetical post WO-C ISD Greater Orange area. An appropriate topic, just not for this forum.

It is certainly an intangible that cannot be discounted. However, I don't know that it can be counted on as heavily it was last year when, especially in the last part of the season, players were playing what might be their last game with WT. I would think that emotion would be stronger then than now.

Dude, CHILL! Regardless of the school, if you expect everyone to speak of your school in glowing reverence every time they mention it, then you will spend a lot of time in a sour mood. West Orange-Stark is not exempt from that. If you are under the mistaken impression that they are, then this may not be the place for you. -
A lot of folks think there will be a big drop off at Newton. I'm not sure that will be the case. While the Eagles lose a big running hoss like Darwin Barlow, they have a number of backs like Kevin Foster who can take up that slack. The big question will be the Newton passing attack. Do the Eagles feel the loss of Greg Neece and Josh Foster in that regard. I just don't know the answer to that question. The Newton defense should be just as stout as last year up front but lose some in the secondary. Based what I know now, it will be Silsbee that is the streak ender.
