Its going to be a long year for PN-G. Both lines are going to need to improve throughout the year. They are going to be the biggest area of concerns. Defensively we are going to be undersized. The running back situation will be just as good as last year, not saying last year was a good situation.. Average at best. Johnson will be a work in progress. Hes young and has great ability. As long as he stays at PN-G I think we have hope. Offensively I would rate us middle of the pack in the district. Defensively we will be around the middle to bottom. What people must remember is that it takes a special kid to be a STUD as a sophomore. There will be a huge learning curve. SO my preseason rankings are simple...
    Offense...             C
    Defense...            C-
    Special Teams...  C
    Coaching...           B-
    Overall....     Solid C
I do think we limp into the playoffs after a beat down from Nederland as the 4 seed....
One must remember in high school football. Most players play by coaching rather than instinct on defense. That being said the hardest thing to contain is a elusive, shifty, QB. I do think that is an advantage if we have any..

ITS NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM....... JUST MOST OF IT............

WB won"t drop down. If you look back at their enrollment history, WB's numbers have been consistent. When Ozen opened Central took an enrollment hit. And, every since Ozen started having issues, Central has gotten a boost in enrollment. If anything WB will continue to be a small 6A with Central and Ozen balancing out as medium sized 5A schools. Plus enforcing a zoning policy is fine, but quality of education will make parents like me take my kid to whichever school is offering the best education.

Cameron Malveaux from HF will start on the d-line for the second straight year at UH. 6'7 and 290 lbs. And runs a 4.8. Coaches there feel like he will have a monster year and get drafted in a good spot

I first reported this on May 21. It was my understanding the suspensions for both Mayfield and Johnson had nothing to do with football and that both had a chance to come back after the summer.
I have not talked to Coach Neumann about this issue since May.

KF89 reacted to JRidge in Ozen H.S. Head Baseball Coach Moving On!
Ozen H.S. will be looking to replace its Head Baseball Coach as he resigns to work closer to home and eliminate the long commute. We appreciate everything Coach Cullivan has done for our kids and the program as he has definitely impacted in in a positive way and has it going in the right direction. Although we hate to see him leave we do understand his decision is what's best for he and his family! We wish him all the best!
Hopefully Ozen can get a quality coach and assistant to help this program become what it can be. Currently they loose 3 Varsity starters but return 6 Varsity pitchers, all but 3rd base left fielder and center fielder. Nine of their players are currently playing in the Nederland Babe Ruth summer league and 3 of them have made the S.E. Texas Banditos Travel Team. Ozen's program in the past had been lacking having kids play baseball after the school season but now have several kids wanting to play year-round. This would be a good fit for an energetic coach with a vision.

Its been a while since I have made a post. But my take is simple. PAM and Nederland fight it out for DC. Central and PN-G fight it out for 3 and 4. The rest fight it out to stay .500. PAM will have the most talent in the district, but Larry has the best staff and the 3rd best talent in the district. Central has the 2nd best talent but will be outcoached a few games.

So the scoop on PN-G is this. After we replace the coaches that leave, we will get back to work under the same offensive plan we use each year. O Line has some good talent coming up and I think we will see a better line than last year. QB situation will be Roschon. As long as he stays healthy he can gain some valuable experience for the next few years. The running back situation will be above average and possibly a upgrade from last year. The defense is making a few changes. LL to linebacker. Pray for good coaching to keep the kids in the right spots, if not it might be ugly. Defensively we are undersized and do not have a ton of speed. Discipline will be the key to the defenses success, which boils down to coaching. I think this group can take the coaching and hopefully it pays off in the end. McZeal will have the opportunity to be a big playmaker. For the football gurus that know the game, you understand that Giblin made the other recievers better last year since almost everyone rolled a safety on him. Hopefully Mczeal can be the same player this year that Giblin was the last few years. I have no idea about the kicking game, but I expect the norm. In the end I think we finish 3rd or 4th respectably. But the positives..... We have the best band, Indianettes, and cheerleaders around!!!!! I would not call it a rebuilding year since we have not been deep in a while, but in the end I think BF makes a quick playoff visit and exit, and keeps his job.  Losses to PAM Nederland... Central is a 50/50 IMO.

What justifies doing nothing? As a former consultant, I know a lot about doing nothing and getting a paycheck.
If the kids showed up, that's working. Available to perform an action = also working.
There are a lot of grey clouds hovering over this discipline. I call BS.
The rule itself is erroneous regardless and needs revision.

Callumlikeiseeum is exactly right, Its about time somebody told the truth even though you will feel the repercussions from the select coaches. Remember they don't have real jobs and you are threatening their livelihood. These kids are being used by the select coaches as nothing more than a money making scheme. Parents wake up, they don't care about your son or you. All they care about is putting money in their pocket. When and If a young man does actually make it to D1 or better then he claims it was all because of him and his great coaching. He will not tell you about the other 99 out of 100 who did not make it.

How did we go from fifty to fifty thousand?
Here is one man's opinion on how and why the problem might have developed.  In 1990, only the elite player from this area played true select baseball.  The John Pattersons and the Brian Sanchezes of the area.  The rest of the kids played HS ball, a few summer ball games with their HS teammates, and those not in football played a few fall ball games with their HS teammates.
At this time in history it cost the local kid $50 bucks a year to play the game we love.
Then some folks saw people in Houston and Dallas making big money from showcase teams.  It spread to this area and several who were self proclaimed baseball instructors in our area began to do the same here in the summers.  All you had to be was a successful former player or someone who coached (or raised) a successful former player, and you could line em up and churn out the lessons.  Some would do it on the side, some decided to make a run at doing it for a living.  Those in the second group had to expand so they could better capitalize financially on the popularity of our sport.  To do this they had to have their guys paying them in the fall as well.  So they went that route.  Some even encouraged many kids not to play other sports so they could keep the flow of that kids parents money into their pockets and they not only coached the kid's teams couple days a week, but for an extra fee, would even coach them more if they would show up a couple more days a week for supplemental lessons on specific parts of the game.  As we currently stand some of these people have figured out how to make quite a living off this great sport.  All they have to do is control the environment. You might could use some of these tactics to sustain profitability 1)  say whatever you have to say to recruit the best kids so you can win ex. tell them its all about the kids 2) it might help to bad mouth anybody else and any other sport that is a threat to taking any kid away from you for any amount of time which would result in a decrease your annual income. 3)  when you finally have the hook set on the kid and their parents go to work on them that you are the only person they need to succeed.  Tell them their high school coach wont help them play at the next level. Tell them that in all actuality they need not even play high school baseball because you are their ticket. The day enough moms and dads believe that, is the day that baseball in our area has been ruined by greed.
Remember that $50 it used to cost to play? Over the course of 10 or 12 years, many families are spending 30? 40? 50,000? dollars doing all of this (more if have injuries from overuse).  FYI guys.  You could pay your own way to college for that.
Ask any college or pro player (that is not in this business, and those that have not drank the koolaid provided by the aforementioned), what were his greatest days in this sport? and the vast majority will tell you, it was putting on their high school uniform and representing their community with the classmates they went to school with since kindergarten.  It was the fight for bragging rights between towns and the right to talk trash with our co-workers the next day at work.  Some in this business must not have played in that environment and loathe their HS experience but they are short changing any kid or kids that they convince those months out of the year should be four more spent in their gym so that the funds keep flowing.
With that said, there are some great people in the area that profit from the great game of baseball, that don't bad mouth others, and participate in America's past time for the right reasons which are the kids and the world's greatest game.  Thank you to those guys.  If this is you, you will not be offended by what I have written here today.

The only thing he hasn't done is win the region and gotten to the State Tournament. That's not easy to do, but his resume is FAR from average considering what he has done at two schools NOT known for anything basketball...Come on, man...I'm all about winning championships, but I DO know how difficult that can be for ANY coach to do. TIMING and LUCK. Both play BIG parts in addition to running a quality program in getting to that next level.  I think Coach Lee from Central is a good man, and he made it to State with Central in his last year, but I don't think he is a better coach than English. Bob Hughes from Fort Worth Dunbar...Remember him? It took him 39 YEARS to win a state title, when he won his first one in 1993 at a POWERHOUSE school! THIRTY NINE YEARS!  And he is considered one of the greatest that Texas has ever seen.... Bill Krueger from Clear Lake...Texas winningest coach...remember him? It took him 35 YEARS to win ONE state title, in 1989...My point is, there is NO WAY that you can measure this guy's accomplishments by state tourney trips. NO WAY. Again if you know any active coach in SE Texas with a better body of work (not named Sutherland) I want to see it.  BODY OF WORK, meaning went to the playoffs at VIDOR, and advancing to the regional tournament at NEDERLAND. Just think about that.

I take it WOS has theirs returning as well.  If so they probably ha the edge right now in being the most productive, because they have their qb returning.  They are good no doubt.  One thing I like though about the Tiger relievers we have returning is that you have a big sure handed go to receiver returning in Mackey. Then you have two that are a threat to take it to the house from anywhere on the field as well.  One of which has very good size and strength as well.  The difference between these two groups next year may very well come from the qb position and how well they get the ball to these recovers.  The Tigers will start from behind in that respect.  Not only will our receivers have to get accustomed to a new qb but they will be depending on a new offensive one to give that qb time to throw the ball.  Add to that the fact that we don't know what our offense will be next year due to getting a new coach, and numbers wise right now would seem to end up in WOS favor.

Injuries happen in football games and they are unfortunate.  We lost Justin Brown on Celina's first offensive series in the second half.  He took a clean shot on a crack back block and sustained a bruised sternum and was out the rest of the game.  He is the strong side linebacker and makes all the defensive calls (the QB of the defense).  Nobody noticed because the next man up came in and did his job.  This is the mantra of Mustang football especially under Cornell Thompson and staff.
    Congratulations Mustangs!!!!

False. People who continue to perpetuate that myth are part of the problem. Those kids can get out with hard work in the classroom, despite what happens on the field or court. I know plenty of kids from impoverished backgrounds, and terrible neighborhoods who sat next to me in classes at a Baptist university in East Texas and never paid a dime. They took advantage of the government programs that were available to them, and only available to them because they focused their time and effort in the classroom.
Also, athletics have not changed a lot of kids lives. The correct statement is "athletics have changed a few kids lives". Look at the statistics on how many kids parlay their HS athletic success into a 4 year college scholarship, then look at the numbers of how many have gone pro. We have to quit telling these kids that they can get out of the hood with athletics and start reminding them that their chances are better to get out of the hood with academics.

Lee wanted it more and we couldn't stop Hockless. Pretty much wraps up the game. These boys need to ask themselves how much winning means to them. Some kids have that 'not gonna lose' mentality. I believe that is called the 'it factor' that so many people refer to. Some kids have it, some don't. I can recall a few games (earlier in the season) where we had that mentality. Lately, we don't seem to have 'it'. We need to somehow find that desire to win again.

All about staff. Soccer has had little to no coverage. Tonight bigger matchups were in soccer. I shot both games. Dave would normally grab a game if I was tied up, but he had to attend Taste of the Triangle (we do have to do more than the usual work stuff for our job). If it's not football season the only sports shooters tend to be the anchors. Trust me I'd love to have help.

Did hear there was a freshman pitcher that was doing pretty good at BH, may see some innings through the tournaments, if he can hold his own he will say on varsity,  When  it comes to freshman on varsity and I'm a pitcher, I would rather be on JV and get innings in,and not just sit.  If I'm a fr position player, it is a double edge, if you stay on varsity you may not play a whole lot, but practice with the varsity, and if you have ever seen the way Denny runs a practice, that freshman will get a lot of coaching and improvement, or be on JV and play every game but not get the reps in practice like the varsity gets or the coaching.  You are right, I have not  seen too many freshmen come in and be a impact player on a  bigger program when 5A or above, there has been 2 at BH I know of the last 6 years, one in 2011 and another in 2014.
