walldrill reacted to SD_2 in Area Baseball Coaches on the Move
I'm close friends with Westbrook and he told me Coach Thompson DID contact him about going back, and appreciated the offer, but he was going to stay at Jasper.

Pickering would be a good choice.

Don't get me wrong. IF Coach Thompson could lure either Coach Westbrook or Coach Bennett to WO-S, I'd be good with that.
However based upon information I have gotten from Jasper and Kirbyville, both coaches are currently happy enough with their situations, as well as both schools being happy enough with their coaches. So it appears that they will be staying put (no guarantee, of course) for the near future.
Of course, I'd not have a problem if Ryan Pickering would be promoted to the top spot, either.

2-3 more inches on his height and he'd have way more FBS schools looking at him. But SMU is getting a stud

well when we played bridge city this year their coaches were very good to our kids during the game, their fans were very good to our fans and the umpires during the game, I had several of their fans after the game come up to us and say great things about our kids and program. Bridge City players were very respectful to me and my asst during the game if we spoke to anyone it was yes sir no sir. Chad runs a great program

Well, on a plus note, I didn't see any BC or CS kids throwing punches or fighting among themselves as was previously reported.
BC kids were out of line, no doubt. No excuse for that at all. Very disappointing. I don't have a problem with discipline being handed down from the UIL. I'll be very disappointed if Landry/Dubois don't make a very strong statement by punishing the kids who touched or aggressively approached the umpire. That's not who we are.
Back to my original thought that was misunderstood by a lot of the faithful. You have to wonder if this whole situation was worsened by the behavior of some BC fans. I'm not justifying the calls.... I wasn't there and the video of the at bat in question looks bad, but who knows? I DO know that multiple fans from BC were ejected from the game prior to this altercation. Did their behavior improve the umpire's performance? Apparently not.
How are players supposed to react when they've got an hour's worth of "Hey, Blue.... you're blind..... You're horrible..... Got to hell," etc, etc.? How can you expect kids to respond appropriately when their fans (and possibly family) have been disrespecting the officials for an hour or better?
Nothing good comes from bashing the officials.

Guys, that's not what Cardinalbacker is saying for the love of all thing Holy. He is pointing out that these guys, the ups, already take enough crap. Their whole existence is judgement calls. Last I checked there is no instant replay in HS baseball, hell, any baseball. He is saying that riding the up all game will NOT help in the decision making of his said calls. And it might actually be detrimental to the team that is doing it. Not in spite from the ump, but just the ump getting fed up in general. Now, with that said, we all saw the pitch and all of us can agree it was a strike, probably CS people also. But that is baseball, it doesn't always go your way. CB is trying to say that riding an ump all day won't help the cause period, even if he shakes it off!!

These are kids. Most of them young. Emotions happen, especially at their age. The ending of last nights game, though not condoning actions whatsoever, put the teenagers emotions in overdrive. Let's all look back when we were 14-18 years old, did we make the best decisions at the spur of a momment?? I know I didn't. Maturity comes with age. Thanks to the quick actions of the coaches and some fans that helped get the situation under control, because it could have been way worse. And to speak about some parents getting upset, etc. I don't believe in cussing, etc at the umps what so ever but if that was my my child that was robbed, I would be a little upset also. Unless any of us "bystanders" are in that situation, we wouldn't know how we would react. Speculation and assumptions only cause more damage and misunderstanding. Remeber, once again, these are kids....kids that aren't playing for money or fame, rather, the love of the game. Putting everything on the line with their hearts and soul.

Hassling blue doesn't help your team. In fact, it hurts the team more often than not.

walldrill reacted to td in District 22-4A Shame
According to actually being there, the umpire threw out a guy that was there just as a fan. A guy that would be thrown out of a game after a grandmother. That guy did nothing. He wasn't yelling, all he did was raise his hand up and was saying the pitch was high. The umpire accused him of flipping him off. Not even a little close to being true. The dugout warning was for speaking on balls and strikes. All I can say about that is, if you had been there you too may have gotten a warning. I can't speak on any of the other situations but maybe our district is very passionate about our sports because we are that competitive. I can agree that we (22-4A)had a few things happen that shouldn't have happened. Those were kids not making the right choice. Let's not go overboard and say the whole district is out of control and should be ashamed because of a couple of incidents. I'm very proud of 22-4A and the way they compete at every sport.
