  1. Parents will always want/expect their children to play more, that is their job, to support, uplift and protect their children. Nobody, coaches included, should ever hold that against the kids. Coaches are hired to do a job, and the majority of that is to win games. Coaches play the kids that they think give the team the best chance to be successful. Are the coaches always right? Hell no, they are not always right. In fact, some of us have left jobs because we disagree with coaches on who should be playing and why.
  2. This is a system hire, Doughty is a Slot-T guy and that is what Kirbyville wanted. Strickland must have too PROGRESSIVE for them.
  3. The make-up of the town of Gunter, the community as a whole, the attitudes of the kids as well as the fans, are polar opposite of Silsbee. Takes a special personalty to run the TRUE triple option in today's world.
  4. Kids in Gunter are a little bit different than the kids in Silbee.
  5. Hearing that Overton's Strickland was in town this week for a second interview. Can anyone confirm?
  6. Money talks, I understand. But who the heck wants to get their doors blown off every week for two years and then have to explain in an interview why you took the job in the first place. HOWEVER, most coaches are arrogant enough to think they can win anywhere, so I guess I answered my own question.
  7. All I can say is WOW, and Nederland and Central had less than 10 applicants each? Lee has been a dumpster fire since Dick left and they built the new school, yet they get this quality applicant pool.
  8. I guess, I can't see anybody enjoying getting their brains beat in game after game. But, I'm sure there are a number of young coaches looking for that first chance and plenty of old guys looking to get those retirement numbers up.
  9. Considering the applicant pool for Nederland and Central, I'm guessing they are going to have to hire the Janitor at Lee.
  10. Nobody in their right mind submits a letter of resignation, or tells their peers, or informs their boss that they are leaving until the have signed a contract or received a letter of intent.
  11. Why is it ridiculous? I actually think it is classy and a very accurate representation of an Indian head dress. Did you ask your son what he thought?
  12. It is either a case of school districts deceiving the public or nobody wanting to relocate to the Golden Triangle.
  13. That would look more like Oregon with the wings, but I agree that would be a good look. Call it the Chiefs ceremonial head dress look.
  14. White is not a color. Everybody wears white.
  15. He won't get more than two years. He has to at least maintain, 6-4 and the playoffs both years will probably allow him to keep the job. But, 4-6 and missing the playoffs two years in a row will probably cost him the job.
  16. IMO, long-time, loyal assistants should always be rewarded with the opportunity to be the Head Coach when their mentor steps down. This is how you continue successful programs and keep continuity in a program. Now with that being said, if Nederland has two years of losing football under Monte then I definitely think a move to the outside will be necessary. And having a Masters Degree in some BS subject in no way proves you have the ability to lead.
  17. No doubt that this was the smart and prudent move by Nederland ISD. No reason to make a change with the success that the formula put in place by Neuman has had. For the kids and the community, let's hope Barrow can continue the winning formula. And if he cant, then Simmons is just a phone call away.
  18. I'm guessing he is in the area for a very specific reason.
