  1. If we are talking about high scoring games and not blowouts, then Silsbee's playoff loss to Palestine last year would be a good one to mention. Score was 63-49.
  2. Two hits come to my mind. First, the hit of the year according to ESPN, when Texas Aggie LB Quinton Coryatt leveled a TCU receiver coming over the middle on ESPN's Thursday night game in '86. The other was Silsbee LB Gary McGuire cloths lining a receiver for Nederland in a scrimmage in '82. Both players were out cold for several minutes. Vicious, vicious.
  3. Cleveland has been 3A for 10 years or more, don't know the exact years though.
  4. Actually, I think this is all just a waste of time, it's just a scrimmage. Besides, that's just what one side will claim if they lose( if there is a such thing as a loser in a scrimmage ) is that it was just a scrimmage, no real test of what either team really is. Particullarly if this is the first scrimmage. Anyway, I'll say that the Mustangs will look the better of the two, but I don't know who will score more or wins or whatever.
  5. Former Tiger William Morrisey, all-state and Willie Ray Smith winner, has taken a leave of absence from the Aggie football team. Siting personal reasons, Morrisey has left indefinetly. As to when or if he comes back this year or if ever, remains to be seen. Let's hope William can get things taken care of and get back to playing ball.
  6. Silsbee's homecoming game is the one I want to see. Their opponent: WOS
  7. David Frye's shot in the Astrodome has to be it. It was in the all-star game but it wasn't centerfield. He hit it over the left center field wall on to the concourse behind the mezzanine seats. The scoreboard operator posted it at an estimated 475 ft. To do it in the place where homers die into flyballs was pretty impressive.
  8. I did not include soccer because not all of our district foes play soccer. The soccer districts locally have a mixture of 4A, 3A, and 2A. Only 5A has its own district. With that said, I stand corrected in that Silsbee did not qualify for the playoffs in every sport.
  9. The '05-'06 school year for Tiger sports will go down as one of the most successful years in their history. Silsbee claimed 10 district championships, a runner-up, and a third place in the 12 team sports it participated in. Not bad. Here is how they finished: Football: 4-1, runner up Vollyball: undefeated, champ Boys basketball: 10-0, champ Girls basketball: 10-0, champ Baseball: 10-0, champ Softball: 7-3, third Boys track: champ Girls track: champ Boys golf: champ Girls golf: champ Boys tennis: champ Girls tennis: champ Silsbee sent a team in every sport to the playoffs.
  10. As for 2006, we already are their daddys. Silsbee has 9 district titles this year to Jasper's 1. With the possibility of the baseball team getting another, 10 district titles in one school year is pretty dominate.
  11. What amazes me with these records is that only four other teams have played Nederland more than Silsbee has. I didn't know we had played Nederland that much over the years. PNG, Orange, Vidor, and Beaumont French played the Bulldogs more but most of those were district games.
  12. Jay McGuire of Silsbee had 454 yards rushing and 6 TD's against Nederland in '93. He had a total of 600 all purpose yards in that game.
  13. I thought this thread was for non-playoff games? Anyway, the Silsbee-Nederland game of '93 that was mentioned earlier was a classic. Jay McGuire of Silsbee( Willie Ray Smith award winner that year ) had 454 yards rushing and 6 tds to bolster his total yards for the game to right at 600 yards!! The game was back and forth until Silsbee made a key defensive stop in the 4th to get a 10 point lead and won the game 48-45. The qb for Nederland( forget his name ) had a terrific game with over 275 yards passing. He picked Silsbee apart. To say the least, it was a very exciting game. The thing about this game that amazed me was not what took place that night, but what took place later on in the season. Silsbee faced Nederland in the 1st round of the playoffs without Jay McGuire. He broke his leg in the last game of the season against Jasper. Most people figured that we had no chance against Nederland without him, seeing that he basically won the first game by himself. But the Tigers changed up their defensive scheme from the last time they faced the Bulldogs, and came away with a 34-7 win. The Tigers sacked Nederland's qb a total of 10 times that night, basically blitzing on every down. Playing the zone in the first game was not effective at all, so they decided to live and die by the blitz. Good call. I have both of those games plus all of Silsbee's games that season on video tape if anyone would like to see them.
  14. If I'm not mistaken, Silsbee and Jasper has the oldest rivalry. They have been playing each other since the birth of football I believe.
  15. I go to the state tourney every year regardless of what schools are there. My dad and I have been attending the state tourney every year together since 1972, when I was 8 years old, haven't missed a year yet. This will be my 35th straight year to attend. My dad has not missed a year since 1958, he's working on 50 consecutive years by 08. I would have loved to have seen my Tigers there, but hey, that's how the ball bounces sometimes. Better luck next year.
  16. If WOS makes it to Austin, then it could be said that their road to the final four went through district 22-3A.
  17. I called this one. Coldspring very underrated. Where's my BH people? District 23-3A gone after tonight.
  18. Silsbee turned up the heat in the second half and blew Cleveland out by 32. Silsbee was down 28-25 at the half and then outscored Cleveland 54-19 in the second half for a very convincing victory. It was evident early on that the Indians would eventually tire as the Tigers depth and pressure defense turned to be too much for them to handle. Cleveland only played about 6 players while the Tigers continued to sub their usual 10-11 players. The Indians finally tired out and started committing turnovers and lazy fouls and Silsbee took the game over. Silsbee's depth and their relentless pressure defense along with their fast pace transition game will carry them to Austin.
  19. Question: Is Jason Henry going to be Lumberton's new football or basketball coach? Clarify please.
  20. I have read three different scores for this game. This site has it 75-53, Channel Six has it 75-66, and the Port Arthur News has it 75-63. Only common denominator is Cleveland's score( and them winning ). Just curious how close this game really was.
  21. Silsbee could not host the playoff game because we are playing one ourselves that night.
  22. Channel Six had the score 75-66, not 75-53. Which was it?
