1.
How are yall still ranked #4 and yall lost to a 2a team. Oh I know why, just learned former coach from hj runs the UIl. This really explains yall success now.
Showing your ignorance here swag. The UIL has nothing to do with the TABC rankings. The rankings have been updated since the New Waverly loss.
 2.
We scheduled 3 teams from last years 3a regional tournament! Tell Hj to schedule 3teams from the 4a regional tournament. I promise you yall won't do it. I don't see Hj jumping up 2 classifications to play better teams like us and Silsbee. You can't win this 1 bruh!
But according to "your" standards, HJ can't be claimed as a great team, and you lost both times to them, so you have to toss those games out. As for Jasper, everyone that knows anything about basketball knows they were a one hit wonder last year. They won't sniff the playoffs this year. As for talking about playing up 2 classifications, you guys played 2 4A teams, Lumberton(2) and Vidor, and 2 of those games were tourney games, not scheduled games. Whoopeee! What a gauntlet.
 3. I agree Steve. The Yates team is an all-star team, no question about it.
 4. Let's see, point out on this "incredibly" tough schedule the great teams that Kountze has played. Kountze Lions (20-2, 2-0) HC: Duane Joubert Nov. 17 - Lumberton (W, 107-69, Walker 26) Nov. 20 - Hardin-Jefferson (L, 79-76, Whisenant 19) Nov. 23 - Shepherd (W, 107-50, Bray 31) Nov. 27 - vs. Silsbee (W, 94-89, Bray 33) Dec. 1 - @ Goodrich (W, 108-50) Dec. 3-5 - @ Evadale Tournament vs. Bridge City (W, 99-58) vs. Buna (W, 109-39) vs. Orangefield (W, 83-57) ----------------- Dec. 7 - Jasper (W, 97-62) Dec. 10-12 - @ Hardin-Jefferson Marathon vs. Vidor (W, 79-44) vs. Bullard (W, 85-81) vs. Valley View (W, 98-68) vs. Lumberton (W, 103-70) vs. Gladewater Sabine (W, 84-53) vs. Hardin-Jefferson (L, 81-78) ----------------- Dec. 18 - Deweyville* (W, 96-55, Bray 29) Dec. 21 - @ Woodville (W, 92-64, Bray 27) Dec. 22 - San Augustine (W, 109-61, Walker 35) Dec. 28-30 - @ Tenaha Tournament vs. Hughes Springs (W, 112-36) vs. Central Heights (W, 73-43) vs. San Augustine (W, 103-58) ----------------- Jan. 5 - @ Hardin* (W, 104-33) Jan. 8 - @ Anahuac* Jan. 12 - East Chambers* Jan. 19 - Warren* Jan. 22 - @ Buna* Jan. 26 - @ Deweyville* Jan. 29 - Hardin* Feb. 2 - Anahuac* Feb. 5 - @ East Chambers Feb. 9 - Legacy Feb. 12 - @ Warren Feb. 16 - Buna* By your standards Swag, I could only highlight one great team on Kountze schedule. ;) Clean your kitchen first. ;)
 5. Since when did Silsbee beat HJ twice this year? I can't believe I missed those two games. ;D

 7. Baseball has a run rule because there is no clock involved.
 8. Banquet?? Who said anything about a banquet? They are just announcing the 8 finalists. You know Gabe, I am beginning to wonder how you managed to be in the newspaper business. ;D
 9. I find watching a girls volleyball game to be on par with watching a girls basketball game. I used to hate watching girls basketball. All that happened was tie ball, traveling, and foul. ;D It has improved a little over the years.
 10.
You guys talk like Yates recuits!  They have the same opportunity to get kids as good as they have or as bad as Lee has.  The playing fields are level, they both play by UIL rules, and they both suit up to COMPETE!!! WIN or LOSE!
Where did anyone in this thread say or even suggest that Yates recruits?
 11. I like the idea of a running clock. This is already being done in football.
 12.
isn't Texas/Alabama game tonight?   ;D
Very good point, Blue.
 13. Don't get me wrong, short, I don't think Lamar is anything special. But I do know that they are good enough to beat a high school team, even Yates. ;) ;D
 14. It's ridiculous to even think that Yates would beat Lamar. Show's lack of inteligence.
 15.
What's sad is there is a 6 page thread going on the volleyball page and no action on the basketball page. ???
I'll help out.
 16. C'mon LAZEEK, 135 point wins don't just happen. Those kind of wins are forced. I can respect a 70 point win by Yates after calling off the press much more than a 135 point win and pressing the enitre game. It was just totally unnecessary. Difference between a 70 point win without pressing and 135 point win pressing the whole game, is class and respect.
 17. Again, why press when you are up by 100? Just another spin. ::)
 18. I was thinking the samething Chad. What do those poor folks do up North? ::) There is no reason to cancel any games.
 19. 1970 is correct They beat Henrietta Midway 75-53. Class B State Champs
 20.

I listened to the Coach Wise interview on Sportstalk 610, he said himself that they pressed the entire game. He said they know no other way to play. I find that to be bull crap!! Chad, when is enough, enough? I do not know what the circumstances were in the HJ game, but if they did what Yates did, then they are a bunch of sleezeballs too.
I wouldn't start alot of name calling... 87-28, 125-54?!?!  You tell us when is enough enough? Roll Tide!
Since you brought those games up, I will tell you about them, since I broadcasted both of them. Silsbee never pressed in the second half in both games. In the latter game, Silsbee starters played the 1st quarter and 2 minutes of the 3rd, that's it. Silsbee led by 30 at half of both games, not 100! Legacy, particularly in the second game, just kept shooting the ball, their offensive possesions lasted maybe 8-10 seconds and that was on their own, no pressure. Again, I am never for a team to lay down and not score, but there are things that can be done to help prevent the game to get like what Yates did. Silsbee did some of those things. Trust me, if they played in the manner of what Yates did against Lee, you would have saw a score close to that in the Silsbee/Legacy game.
 21. As far as I am concerned, it's NEVER okay to do what Yates and what HJ did. I see no reason to press while up by 100. You'll never convince me otherwise. I never suggested that a team stop scoring and just hold the ball. I think those players off the bench should get the opportunity. But in these cases, the bench should have been playing right after the first quarter and for the remainder of the game. ;)
 22.

Also, why all the uproar now. If you have seen Yates play the last three years since Wise has been there you know thats how they play. I have said all along that they may hit 200 points more than once in district because their district is so weak.
What is the point in scoring 200 points unless you need to score that many to win a game? Like I said, I have no problem with any team scoring 170 points if the game is competitive, say like 170-105 or something like that. But when you are up 100-12 at half, time to rethink on how the rest of the game should be played. Wise needs to be a better man, not necessarily a better coach.
AAW he play 13 player the first quater. All 15 the rest of the game. You cant tell a player not to score.
Catman, care to explain why a coach presses while up by 100 points? Nobody is saying for someone not to score. ::)
Coach said on the news we press the whole game that what we do with all of the 15 player we have.He will not change anything that we do, that the way we play ball full court press for 32 min.
I know what he said. I was asking YOU. Him saying "that's what we do", "that's all we know", is just a lame excuse for rubbing it in, kicking a team while they are down, taking full advantage of a situiation that he felt he could do something of this nature. This had nothing to do with winning the game, it was about self glorification.
 23.

There are lots of poor and working class immigrants living near Lee High School.   Basketball is not the sport of choice in that area.  it is probably soccer.  It is an old and run down school.  There are some affluent families in that area.  They send their children to expensive private schools.   Yates running up the score on Lee is classless.   That would be like one of the big suburban schools beating Yates by 10 runs in baseball.  It is too easy to do, and therefore not that big a deal.
What does class have to do with basketball?  Nobody cries when teams beat the Jags by 20 goals in soccer or when Lake Travis beats teams 50 to nothing!  I have seen the suburban baseball teams drag these same inner city schools by 20+ runs!  I guess since these are inner city black kids, this big wins is a definition of class?  All these kids play one way, and that is all they know.  A lot of what they do wont even transfer to the college game, but that is what they know.  Even if you back them down to the half court they would swarm and play aggressive!!! What's classy is how these kids represented themselves in Hawaii and Alabama.  What’s class is how these kids have positioned themselves to attend college academically and financially.  What's classy is how this is the ONLY ranked team with no kid listed in any scouting polls top 100 (first time it has occurred in history of ranking high school players!)  Do me a favor, go sit at one of these high school soccer game and baseball games and call those kids classless too!!! Other than that.. You need to check yourself!
Short, nobody is calling the kids "classless" or at least I am not. They just played how the coach instructed them to do. Wise on the other hand, that's a different story. He could have done something to keep it from getting like this but he CHOSE to allow it to continue. I have seen many 60-70 point blowouts, those games just happen. But you'll never convince me that Wise did not go out of his way to get a 135 point win. That score was forced, it didn't just happen that way becasue they were that much better than Lee. They proved that they were better before the game really started. But if you are up 100-12 at half, do you think the game has been decided already? ::)
