Silsbee 72 Hardin-Jefferson 62/Final
AggiesAreWe replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
Personally, I didn't think Silsbee shot all that badly. HJ's defense definitely stepped up in 2nd half but Silsbee took less shots in 2nd half than they did in 1st half. Tigers definitely were more patient offensively but I think that had to do with HJ defensive adjustments. I also think Silsbee "slowed down" to try to limit offensive possessions for the Hawks. But like the Drango1 guy stated, I know very little. -
Silsbee senior QB Dontre Thomas had a record breaking season for Silsbee High School. He broke single season records of most rushing TD's, most passing TD's, most passing yards, most completions, total offensive yards and total TD's. Here are his final numbers: rushing 250 carries, 1,880 yards, 31 TD's passing 176-302, 3,146 yards, 40 TD's total 5,026 yards, 71 TD's He led an offense that also set school single season records with most points scored (669), most total yards (7,007), most points per game (47.8) and most yards per game (500.5) Dontre really worked hard in the off season and it paid off tremendously. This young man really dedicated himself to get better for his team knowing he was going to be the man to lead them this season. Big congrats to a fantastic season, Dontre. Job well done! Willie Ray Smith!!!!

Question, was Saladin struggling and having an "off night" due to his own inabilities or did Silsbee defense have something to do with it? Also, shouldn't a senior laden team like HJ (I believe they have 9-10 seniors on the team) believe they can compete with a youthful team like Silsbee to begin with? Experience should help that mentality. Taking a positive from a loss is quite okay unless you keep taking those losses. Losing 14 of last 18 meetings should have HJ fans wanting more. -
Thomas had over 5000 yards and 71 total TD's and Silsbee needed just about every inch and point from those numbers.

Tarkington 60 Cleveland 55/Final
AggiesAreWe replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Boys Basketball
I saw Tarkington at the Leggett and Bridge City tournaments. I can honestly say not one time did the thought of them beating Cleveland and competing for a playoff spot cross my mind while watching them. Decent team but to me it says more about how district 23-4A could be down more than I thought. -

If I didn't know any better I would believe that some on here are disappointed with a 10 point win and some seem content or okay with a 10 point loss. There are reasons why Silsbee won by 10 and reasons why HJ lost by 10. But what do I know? smh -

Yes, sometimes. And sometimes the more talented team advances further. Ask HJ. The point? -

1000% agree!!!!!! And on impact of a single player, I tend to agree with you. I was just stating that M. McCain is still missed to some degree. Will it make or break Silsbee? Probably not. But I know the team and coaches wish they had him on the court. Just makes them that much deeper. -

Actually, Silsbee was hot from 3 land in 1st half. Was 7 of 18 (39%) but went 0/7 in 2nd half. Only attempted 1 three in 4th Q. After Silsbee took a double digit lead mid way 2nd Q, they kept that double digit lead for the rest of the game with the largest lead at 23 mid 3rd Q. 2nd quarter was a big difference in game, but after 1st quarter, Silsbee controlled the game. -
Enough with the "sending back" talk or this thread will be locked. Debate the young man's eligibility status is fine (to a point), but let's don't make it a foreign vs. America thing. Kid came here for a better life and opportunity.

Plus the fact that HJ was intentionally fouling in last two minutes that had Silsbee shooting 16 free throws in 4th Q alone. I thought the game was officiated well. -
