Port Arthur Memorial 34 Houston Westside 27/Game suspended
AggiesAreWe replied to WOSgrad's topic in High School Football
This is the story I was just told about the light situation at Memorial. The lights are set on a timer, they shut off at 10:30pm. Game was taking too long and it would have been another 30-40 minutes to get lights back on. If it's set on a timer, someone should have had the forethought to by pass so the lights would not have gone off since the game was running long. Ball dropped on this one. -
Tradition? Is it done after a loss, particularly a blow out loss?
-
Defense actually playing quite well (for an Aggie defense of late). Offense, well........

Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPN 6m6 minutes ago Breaking news: Houston has decided not to attend in-person meetings w/Big 12 officials next week. Instead they’re sending UH-OU game film -
I will be in press box

One or two board members and some folks in community.

There will be no Jasper/Silsbee basketball game this year. That's a good thing for Jasper. They have won one game all time against Silsbee in basketball. Something like 1-100 record.
-
So you got Silsbee losing to Alvin Shadow Creek. I'll take that bet.
-
A little of both. Got some folks not wanting Silsbee to spend any money on turf.
-
Are you kidding? It was Jasper folks who jumped the Silsbee basketball team when they were heading to the bus. But I do understand, losing to a team 126-72 at home would make me mad too.

Does this site do a local player of the week?

Used to. This year, leaving that up to you guys. If you want to start a nomination thread and the members vote on it, be my guest. Grad and I have too much on our plate to keep up with this again. -
I have seen teams go 0'fer in non-district and win district championships and make deep runs in playoffs. I have seen teams go undefeated in non-district and then go 0'fer in district and stay home for the playoffs.
-
True. But an example: 1998 Silsbee went 1-3 in non-district with one of those losses to WO-S, 17-0 went 5-1 in district, losing to Dayton, 45-38. made it to regional finals losing to state runner up LaMarque, 20-14. Silsbee beat WO-S in first round of playoffs. So yes, non district games do matter, but not near as much as the "other" games.
-
Changing the subject: Newton rushing 35/216 yards passing 9-11, 260 yards total 46 plays, 476 yards Silsbee rushing 40/151 yards passing 12-25, 210 yards total 65 plays, 361 yards

It hadn't rained all week. I walked out on the field. It was completely dry. I have been on that field for the last several years. I know exactly what condition it's in. Very poor. The district knows as well and is very concerned. Just don't have the funds for it at this time.
-
My point being, the field surface affected both teams last night. And on a dry night, that should never, ever come into play. Again, embarrassing.
-
The field surface is terrible. Been that way since 2009. An embarrassment for the school district and the nice facility. They have tried everything imaginable to fix the problem. Only way to fix it is artificial turf. From what I heard in press box, turf is coming. It has come to a point where the district is fearing an injury will occur and they certainly don't want that to happen. Last night, first home game and field conditions were bad. Not a good start.

I agree to a point. But I am ok with a team losing all their non-district games but winning all their district games and making a deep run in playoffs. Just saying
-
2009. and yes, it has never recovered. Great stadium, terrible terrible field surface.

That full court press in 2nd half won it for Beckville
