  1. Yep, LCM found the holes in that good defense of Vidor....we really dont defend the pass very well sometimes.  But I do recall that the Pirates hung 63 points on LCM and won the game.  I look at SC like Nederland in that they will have a quick defense that will create problems for our offense, and, SC has a high powered offense, so its gonna be a very hard game for the Pirates to win.  It ought to be a smash mouth affair at the line of scrimmage.  If the score is close, that favors Vidor.  If its not close, then SC will be on top.
  2. 74-71  I think.  The win was by 3 points just not completely sure on the score.  One of my kids went and told me about it.
  3. Dont know where the Pirates will finish in district, but they just knocked off HJ to open the season.  #7 in state HJ.  Way to go Lady Pirates.
  4. I think Central, Ozen, and Nederland are the top 3 in 20-4A this year, in no particular order.  The rest of the district will have to battle it out for the last spot.  I do agree with the post that mentioned that the Central coaches "give up" on the team when things are bad.  Heck, I dont see much basketball discipline from that team at any time.  They get by with lots of basketball talent.  It sure aint the coaching.  If that team had an English on the sidelines, they could be incredible.  As it stands, they wont make it very far past district play.
  5. The whole thread seems to be about Vidor scoring 66 on Lumberton.  I was at that game and knowing the staff at Vidor like I do, I can tell you they didnt run the score up.  The starters were being replaced in the 3rd quarter.  I can tell you that those 2nd and 3rd stringers for the Pirates went out to play ball.  You cant tell kids not to play hard.  The Pirates dont throw the ball, they run it.  No better way to get the clock to keep running and end the game than by running it.  Lumberton is just having a bad year.  Those kids on the Lumberton side of the ball fought all game long and I was impressed with their mental attitude to keep going even though they knew after awhile that they couldnt win.  I have seen games where a team ran the score up and believe me, the Vidor/Lumberton game wasnt it.
  6. Ive given myself a headache trying to figure out how Livingston has clinched a playoff spot and Vidor hasnt.  We have the same district record, so can somebody please explain it to me.....
  7. Central has the talent but their decisions on the sidelines are horrible.  Its almost like they arent even watching the game and adjusting to what is going on.  Central gets outcoached on this one and LCM wins.  And we really need Central to win, but I have to call em like I see em.
  8. I know that Summer Creek and Dayton are both very good teams but I think that Nederland is an exceptional team and would beat either SC or Dayton.  Of all the teams in 20-4A, Nederland is the best.  We tested them and they impressed me with how they handled everything we threw at them.  Heck, even their loss was impressive in how they turned the ball over 5 times and still pushed the game to OT against a very good Angleton team.  I see Nederland going to the semi-finals or better this year.
  9. I think this game comes down to defense.  I dont think Livingston can stop Vidor and I think that Vidor will stop Livingston.  Livingston is a good team and they run their offense really well but I still give the defensive edge to the Pirates.  No prediction on scores, but I do see a Pirate win on Friday.  Livingston has to hope for a close score because if its a route, then it would be the Pirates on top.
  10. There are no easy wins in 20-4A.  The Pirates have 3 tough opponents to face with PNG, Livingston, and LCM.  LCM scares me the most, especially at home.  For some reason they play like a different team on their home field and Vidor doesnt play very well there. I hate to say it, but I see the Pirates go 2-1 from here on out.  It doesnt change things for the playoffs, at least for us.  It would be nice for us to go to D2, but that is out of our hands, so we cant worry about that.
  11. The only comment I will make about that game is, it was the worst officiated game I have ever seen, on any level.  I realize all officials miss calls, but there were a couple of guys out there that had to be watching a different game than the one on the field and the ring leader was the head official in the white hat.  Im glad somebody finally told him to quit calling out the number of the player who was flagged...these are high school players and that isnt supposed to happen at that level.
  12. Its no big deal when the Pirates get accused of "cheap shots".  I know that our coaches teach cut blocks down field...its legal, but I hate it as a fan.  Most schools dont teach this and while at Clear Brook we were told we couldnt do it.  I think it sets up players for injuries, but again, its just my opinion.  The UIL has ruled that it is legal or Vidor wouldnt be doing it.  I do agree that I didnt see any choir boys out there Friday night.  All teams do stuff in the pile and it is pretty much expected.  I do know that no player is targeted for injury.  The play the dad mentioned was flagged and it should have been.  My hope for the player is that he fully recovers and helps Nederland go into the playoffs and represents our district well.
  13. Hate to say it, but LCM wins this one....those Bears defend their home turf like, well, Bears.  I hate it when we have to play them at their place...its like a different team when they are at home.  PNG wont have the season they wanted this year, but I do expect them to win more than one district game.  I just dont think it will be this game.  Its just an opinion though and I expect PNG to play hard, just like they always do.
  14. That move forward was a false start that wasnt called.  I saw it live and was screaming at the officials for not calling it.  Way it goes, though.  The game was very clean from what I saw and both teams showed a lot of class before, during, and after the game.  Two quality programs showed that tonight.  I thought the game was sloppy at times for both teams and it looked to me like a lot of nervousness.  Hats off to Nederland, though.  They made more plays and controlled the clock.  The Pirates dont see that very often.  No reason for the Pirates to put their heads down after that game.  I hope to see both teams go into the playoffs and represent our district well.
  15. Nederland played a great game.  Unless the Pirates go far into the playoffs, they wont see a team nearly as talented as Nederland.  It does show me that the Pirates can play with anybody though.  It was a tough test for both teams on both sides of the ball and Vidor did ok.  Well done by both teams and congratulations Nederland on a good game tonight.  I think both of these teams will represent district 20-4A in the playoffs very well, provided both teams make it....long time before that is decided.
  16. Concessions????  I predict lines....long, slow moving, mind numbing lines.
  17. Yep, it really is a bad situation when it comes to parking.  Back when the school was built nobody had cars so there wasnt much concern for parking. Just kidding.  With all the homes in the area, there really isnt a nice, close place to park.  Get your walkin shoes on for this one.  The earlier posts about taking the highway 90 way in are right on the money to beat some of the traffic.  Stay off of Main Street.  There is a huge bottleneck at the tracks and turning onto Orange Street coming from that direction.  And it never fails that there will be trains coming through every 30 minutes making it even worse.  Im leaving my house at 5:30 and I live in Vidor.  I would rather sit in the stands sipping on a cold drink than cussing traffic.
  18. UPDATE: I just bought up ALL remaining tickets...I will sell them to you if you want.  Vidor fans cost is $6.00....Nederland fans cost is $50.00.  Ok, just kidding....get your tickets at the gate on Friday or at the Vidor gym today.  I know we will have a full house, but please, both sides remember that this is a football game...so cheer loud for your guys, but dont disrespect the other team.  You can be a fan without being a jerk...or so Ive heard.
  19. To answer the original question, I dont think it matters about the ticket.  I honestly have never tried to go in the visitors gate at our stadium, but I would think you would be ok if you entered the visitors gate with a general admission ticket.  The gates open at 6, btw. If I am wrong about the ticket, let me say now how sorry I am...I wouldnt want to mislead anybody, as I know its a long way to travel but the people who sell the tickets have said that Nederland folks can buy their tickets beginning tomorrow at the high school, and Im pretty sure that all the tickets to be sold will be general admission.  Hope that helps.
  20. I was going to post this on the ticket thread but the admin shut it down.  I had a chance meeting today with the folks who are responsible for the tickets and I was assured that the usual amount of tickets were sent to Nederland.  Vidor is treating this game like all others, in all respects, including tickets.  If you are coming from Nederland and want to see the game and dont want to stand in line you can go to Vidor High school starting Thursday and get them.  I was told that the hours were from 8 til 11 and then from 1 to 3 on Thursday and then Friday from 8 til 11.  You can also get them at the gate.  You wont be turned away.  It will be a packed house and standing room only for sure.  Like I mentioned in the other thread, you will want to get there early because of the parking situation.  Other than that, it would be great to get back to watching two quality programs go at it on the field instead of poor sportsmanship in the stands.
  21. Well, its good to know that some folks from Nederland want us to "get the sh;t" beat out of us because of the ticket issue....class act there bud.  Now, onto something that everyone should know about if you plan on going to the game.....get there early, very early.  Parking is a nightmare on a regular game night....it is gonna be much worse for this game.  Thought it was the right thing to mention, even though there are those who post here who make statements like I have read about how classless we Vidorians are.  I still hope for a spirited and injury free game for both sides of the field.  Some may call us classless, I prefer to show how much class we have.  You folks coming from Nederland are rivals, nothing more, nothing less.  If a Vidorian posted something like I read from some Nederland folks, I would call them out on it..but thats me.
  22. To answer some of the questions/accusations that have popped up here...the stadium itself seats about 9600 people.  I dont know the breakdown between home and visitor but the home side is larger, like most all stadiums.  I would have to believe that the visitor side probably seats about 1000 of fans, not counting the band and drill team.  Its a guess, but Id bet it pretty close.  As far as Vidor only sending 10 tickets to any team we play, well, that is rediculous.  Nederland got their allotment of tickets and they got gobbled up by season ticket holders and then what was left over was offered to the general public.  No school district wants a huge bottleneck at the ticket gate on game night.  The game will be a sell-out and I expect both sides to be very supportive of their teams.  So, enough with running down Vidor.....maybe next time, we need to rent out Lamar stadium for this one.  I would love to see 15000 people watching a football game in southeast Texas...that would be so cool for the kids.
  23. Back in the 50's Vidor was purple and gold and then switched to black and old gold.  Just tellin like it is.
