after the state finals I had a girlfriend and my cuz riding with me it was stone cold quiet all the way till about Beaumont when one of them asked me if I was mad. My reply was I wasn't mad that we lost, I was mad because I always wanted to see PNG in a title game and it just happened and I was pissed that the ride was over and would only be a memory now, such is life!!! I cant see myself ever not being a PNG fan I am hard on the defense because they set the bar in that year. The level of talent we had was unreal, two 1000 yard rushers, 3000 yard passer, Defense that flew by the seat of their pants, Whipping the #9 ranked Ned Bulldogs by a tune of 31-8, crushing Lamarque 22-8 and the funnest playoff run for 6 weeks, Priceless!!

You have no idea how much I pray for this for my Pirates...just once in my lifetime.

  2. OK, I've seen a little film of College Station and the one thing all of you are talking about is Perez and the offense. The star of their team is their DEFENSE. Y'all need to research how many points and yards they're giving up. I'm sure BF is aware of this...I'm not so sure running Shug every other play is gonna work as well. Need to air the ball out a little more this game.

The success of this year's team, was suppose to be a few years away. West Brook has over achieved, considering we only had 3 returning starters on offense, and 3 on defense. So, for the Bruins to have been this successful, this season, makes me look forward to next season, when the majority of the team will be returning. The Highlanders are still the team to beat, in this district, but I do expect a lot better game, in our match up, next year.

Sometimes this is when you have your best team IMO. Expectations aren't high, coaching philosophy has set in to the kids and a little unforeseen talent = winning. GO BRUINS!!!

I was giving y'all credit man. Kronos was trying to marginalize getting their head beat in. Mathews record is what it is, I was just pointing that out because no matter how good he thinks PAM might be you have to take into consideration all aspects of the game and that night he got outcoached. Same way he would have against PNG if they had some athletes. As far as the Crosby vs Vidor game I guess it's just how you look at it? I'm sure you were pleased because Vidor played a solid game. I was pleased because Vidor was a solid team and had it not been for two tds called back and the dumb late safety we gave up the score in that game is probably 47-22 which gave me optimism moving forward after playing against someone's district champion like that. I felt the same way in 2011 you did in last week where you play and undefeated squad, knock them off in a physical game then have to turn around on a week night and drive 70 miles for a playoff game. Only thing that hurts Vidor is that offense isn't plug and play meaning you need personnel yearly, another thing I saw is that Mathews loads up the offense at the expense of the defense.

What a lot of you don't understand though 14.2 is when you go from absolutely NO program to a playoff team every two - three years; that is something! It took Jeff a few years of trial and error to see what would work with our kids and get the philosphy all the way down to the little leagues. I've looked at Crosby's history and you guys haven't always had the glam years you do now, that takes time. I would love to see what a Westerberg could do at a school like Vidor but it ain't never gonna happen...we don't have the tax base to pay for it. Mathews is one of the highest paid coaches in our area, though. Personally, I don't see any of our teams getting any better because unlike your area, ours is shrinking. And, unless the refining business or some other industry decides to move here and upgrade, it will continue to do so. I doubt that Crosby will even be in the same division after the next realignment; most of our schools with the exception of PAM are under 1600 kids so this will be a DII district.

Since I've read most of Louis L'amour's novels, and have a working knowledge of western history, the Quirante's choices for their boys is outstanding.  I forget the oldest, but it was in the same group with Montana, Maverick, and Bridger.  My hats off to that family.

    ^^^^^^^

This is the truth...you hit the nail on the head. Alicia told me she named them from those L'Amour novels. The eldest son is named Remington but he goes by Cutler. Didn't play football; only basketball. We only have one left and I'm not sure he'll play QB for the Pirates.

  6. OK, I gotta jump in here. First off, I will admit that 9 out of 10 times PAM would have beaten us but all the stars aligned and our kids wanted it worse. PAM's Achille's heel is their coaching, plain and simple and Jeff out coached Harrison, period. Xbox has talent EVERY year, it's just putting it together. Vidor has a kid go off to play D1 ball about every 10 years; Harrison has 5 or 6 every year so no matter what his record is, give Mathews his due. Besides 14.2; he has a winning record since 2009; it took a while to build the program. I think his big mistake was playing Crosby Thursday night; our kids were pretty beat up after the PAM game and about half of the Vidor fans couldn't come. It was a much closer game than you want to make it out to be...however Crosby won and deservedly so. I think all of you make issue of this who beat who stuff when these are 16 - 18 year old kids who, on any given night with a little inspiration, can make crazy things happen. The annuals of Texas football are filled with those stories; it's what makes our Friday night religion so special.

We hit the exit, or close to it, @6:30 and traffic was backed up down IH10 trying to exit on Sjolander. By the time we made it into the stadium first quarter was almost half over.

Yeah, I think my brother and I got there around 6:00 and it hadn't backed up yet. We got a pretty good parking spot as well. I'll probably follow the same game plan for this Friday night. See y'all there. GO INDIANS!!!

I am leaving at 3:30pm. That's about as good as I can do on a Friday.  Will be there to support the PNG Indians 100%.

It won't be bad going to Stallworth. Get off at Sjolander Road right pass the chemical plant and you're there. We left at 4:30 last Thursday, stopped and grabbed a burger and were there by about 6:15. Pretty easy drive as long as you don't get to Baytown proper.
