It's gonna be hard to restore ozen to their playoff years from a few yrs ago when Nelson was there.. When Magee was hired ozen lost good coaches in Taylor (Central), Strange, Douglas (west brook) and a few more coaches whom each left on their own terms b/c of Magee and what they saw in him... These were the coaches who parents knew and kids respected now they are left in the hands of basically Magee flunkies who followed him in from Dallas only to desert them and move to MISSISSIPPI I highly dought he has jobs for em out there.. In order to give ozen any hope they need to go after one of two coaches either YOUNG or even KEVIN GOODWIN both were finalist last yr for head jobs in BMT both had success at WOS and GOODWIN has been a head coach of a playoff team for the last few yes OZENS only chance!!!!!! If not I seen Ozen losing kids by the mass over the next 2 yrs

I would highly doubt it if Coach Babin were to come to Ozen. My pick should be Verrill Young of Memorial! He is the right person for the job! He lead WOS to the State title game in 2000 and was on John Clayton's staff over there and was the head boys track coach! We should be lobbying for Verrill Young to be the head football coach at Ozen!

In that case, SHAME ON YOU COACH!!!!  I really hope they find someone to bring Ozen that will stick around and develop a tradition of excellence. The kids deserve that.  They should contend for the district title every year!!

Hey guys I am a Panther/Jaguar/Bruin, but most of all I am for what's right and if any of our schools are doing wrong or are doing injustices to our kids by developing anything less than good moral character by instead teaching a win at any and all cost mentality, I have a problem with that! The games will become a memory, the trophies will collect dust, but honesty, discipline and good character could last a life time! Our job is to give them tools to be successful in life and if all we can do is win games, go off to school for a few years and come back the same way we left, then we have failed! POINT BLANK!

I must ask, where did this outrageous, misinterpreted, and obviously misdirected comment come from? I mean no one is asking for respect of their programs, respect is earned. Most importantly no one's (quote) "Bitching", and your agressive tone is definetly not needed. Nederland has done their thing year in and year out in all sports, which makes them what some would say a power house in 20-4a. With that being known and said, no one is going to take a backseat to anyone in the district, regardless of any past accomplishments! The games are played between the lines and you have definitely crossed it with your hostle remark. Let the kids play and the results speak because it sounds better when they do it! IJS

Well Bigcam, Ozen is considered the bottom dwellers of 20-4a because of their past history! The district arguably has some of the best baseball teams in this area year in and year out, therefore Ozen & Central has a lot of work to do to become contenders! But, the good news is both programs are starting to have large numbers of kids who have been playing this game for awhile now. If they had a quality coach in Little League as some have, then their programs should improve each year. They may shock some teams this year and make the playoff race more interesting due to some possible upsets! :o Lol

I don't think that is it at all.  Rather, it's not the responsibility of a coach or teacher to make sure my child has a college education or scholarship. That is on me and my child.
I do think it VERY important that a high school coach teach my child to be a team player, work hard, have respect, have school pride and work toward a goal in whatever sport and those things do lead to winning.  I DON'T think a teacher has the responsibility to get my child an academic scholarship either.
Nothing in life is free that's worthwhile, and if you ask anyone who has received an athletic/academic scholarship, it takes work to keep it. (But not everyone has the ability or potential to get an athletic scholarship). So if they have those tools and work ethics that the coaches helped developed (let's hope I did my part, too), then they should be able to maintain those scholarships and complete their education.

Which program do I consider more successful? Easy, Nederland. Always said put the Nederland coaching staff in front of an Ozen team who had 10 D1 players on it and Ozen wins state. People just can't grasp just how good our coaching staff makes our players. We don't have 10 D1 players at Nederland but the boys play team ball. They play for each other not for themselves to get a college chance. So I consider Nederland more successful.

kinda have to agree, kids have to hit as many camps as they can, best way to get noticed. cant rely on coaches for this , kids and kids parents need to do the leg work in that. but there are some coaches who go above and beyond, but for the most point it relies on the parents and kids. you cant put stock into being successful based on how many players get scholarships vs who won the most games and judge that as being succussful. Take Ned and Ozen, Ned highly successful program, playoffs in and out just about every year . Ozen well not so successful. who is to judge whether or not the more successful program is , do you go by playoff appearances or scholarship awardees. my opinion is who is playing after district in my books, i go with win %s vs scholarships. but if you are getting those schollies even though you are not that successful does mean something is being done. win win in my book.

I love it! It's going to be crazy I just know it, and I also know that if Ozen ever get's a good head coach, they will make district title runs for the nextfew years! This years team will have a lot of depth and the O-Line has to be taught to be physical 1st and then spread game when needed! Enough Said! Lol

Yes Cam, a lot of those kids came through our S.T.A. Raiders program and are doing really well at Ozen, WB & Central. Ozen has a bulk of them and should probably benefit from their experience! Rodney was pretty good then but your hard work with him has made all the difference!

I watched this young man develope through the years as one of my little league running backs who showed talent early on. He is one of the most hardest workers I've seen! Give him the opportunity and he will make the most of it and he can do it on both sides of the ball!
