  1. It's at Nederland High School at Prather Field. Next to the varsity baseball field. On Spurlock Road. There's an exit for Spurlock off of Hwy 69 near the airport and Sanderson's Restaurant.
  2. Thanks, smity. I'd tried not to be too negative, but I truly have not been impressed yet. I'd rather say I'm "cautiously optimistic." Sure, the Nats are 8-0-1 under Bradley, but who have they played? Mexico...Ecuador....and the seven dwarfs. And is there something wrong with player's passports? Have they played outside of the States yet? Just because the opposition fans outnumber the American fans for many of our games on our own soil doesn't really prepare us for a hostile environment. Copa America will answer both of these questions. Hostile environment? Check: the Venezuelans will be burning flags where ever the US plays. Legitimate competition? Check: The Nats are in a group with Paraguay, Columbia, and (gulp!) Argentina. I think the US will finish second in this group with 4 points, and then play (double gulp!) Brazil in the Quarter-finals. Here's the link: [Hidden Content] The American D has looked organized and solid, but the best forward they've played, El Pescadito Ruiz, a pretty good MLS player, is known more for what he does on the ground - not on the ball. I don't know who Argentina will have on their roster, but look at their internation-based pool of forwards: Tevez (West Ham, EPL), Milito (Real Zaragoza, La Liga), Messi (Barcelona, La Liga), Saviola (Barcelona, La Liga), Crespo (Internazionale, Serie A). N-E-WAY, If the US forwards continue to squander good opportunities, I see Thursday's game against Canada going to PK's. That being said, I think the US will win 3-1.
  3. I'm happy with the win. The defense looked solid and cohesive for the most part. Franke HeyDude is a work-horse. He couldn't cross to save his life today, but his effort was awesome. Bornstein is growing on me now, and Gooch played within himself very well. That yellow he got was bollocks. I wish Bocanegra would stop kicking the ball into the stands every time he has pressure, though. I thought the midfield overall looked the best. Lots of combination passing, team defense, took on defenders, and made the crunching tackles when necessary. Except for Ralston, he's just a big friggin spazzzz out there. There are many better options on the bench and I have no idea how he keeps getting into these games. Donovan and Beasley out wide give us such legitimate threats on the flanks! Pablo was strong and Bradley is gonna keep getting better along with Clark and Feiieieelhaieber (or however you spell his name). I thought the forwards were the least impressive. Sure, tons of opportunities, but neither goal came from the run of play. Twellman was useless today. He had "warning track power" with many near-misses, but I was yelling for him to leave in the first half. Dempsey SHOULD have fininshed that sitter that LandyCakes gave but instead he had to do a flashy pull-back because, after all, he is Deuce. Just put the ball in the goal, Deuce. You'll get to do your silly dance if you do!
  4. We're gonna meet again Wednesday at 5:30...if the weather is OK.
  5. That's why I picked up Ching and Ricardo Clark. I like to saddle myself with a degree of difficulty.
  6. Mild knee sprain is what's being reported so far. Game three is tomorrow at 6:00 versus El Salvador. A point assures the US the top spot in the group. No indication on what line-up Bradley is going with. Mastroeni is available now, too, after serving his suspension from the World Cup game against the Eye-Ties.
  7. WOW! Ben Olsen had a hat trick today! I wonder if anyone had him this week... 8) Too bad everyone but me has Juan Pablo Angel, who scored yet again, on their team.
  8. Don't forget the US vs. TnT today at 4:00. Let's hope our opponents today won't be as disgusting as the Guats!
  9. The games will be broadcast on FSC. Here's some info: [Hidden Content]
  10. We had fun the other day before the storm hit, but we'd love to get more people out. We're gonna move it to 5:30 next Wednesday the 6th to see if we can get some more folks out. Come and join us.
  11. What's the name of the brothers from Silsbee who were really good then? I think one of them was Seth...
  12. Weather-permitting, we're still on. If anyone needs directions, pm me.
  13. I thought it was a very entertaining match. I still don't know what took Rafa so long to put Crouch in the game!?!?! ??? Down a goal to an Italian team and you wait until 12 minutes left to put in your target guy?!?! And then you take off your best holding midfielder, Mascherano, who has been effectively harrassing Kaka?!?! How long did it take Kaka to score after that? Four minutes? And for anyone to say that officials in this area are bad... and I'm not saying the officiating was bad in the Champion's League game, but TWO of the goals were contraversial. The first Milan goal could have been argued for a handball, and the Liverpudlian goal was clearly off-side. I guess the point I'm trying too make is officials miss calls at every level for every team. Sometimes you just have to deal with it.
  14. Wednesday, May 30th, at Nederland High School Prather Field (Next to the baseball field on Spurlock Road) at 4:00. Calling all hacks, studs, gallaticos, has-beens, wanna-bes, young uns, old farts... Come on out. You young guys, remember every time you compete and challenge yourself, you get better. And old fellas, remember these guys actually think that they're better than you! We've got light, movable goals, so we can play small sided games or whatever. Who's in?
  15. Let me be quick since you envious types with a sense of entitlement spew your fury and throw a tantrum any time a neighboring community gets any kind of positive publicity in football. The recruiting services that rank the athletes are not based in Nederland. Who is this "they" that you are speaking of? Does one speak for all? And if so, can we use "you" and "they" to reference all of Port Arthur based on one person's actions or words? Again the PA Hate Machine rages on...
  16. I see the South County Hate Machine is running well, too. :
  17. Vote for the MLS All-Stars. [Hidden Content] Don't forget to show a little love for the local player, Davy Arnaud. ;D
  18. You're right GoDogs. And come to think of it, basketball doesn't draw as many fans in a season as football does in a game, either. So we shouldn't be spending any money there. We should make them play at the Rec. Baseball... Softball... Your rationale is a little flawed. High school athletics (other than football) isn't about making money. It's about providing an oportunity for kids to be a part of a positive experience. And I think the previous poster was talking about possible plans to rejuvenate Prather Field, not build an entirely new stadium. Most football stadiums aren't wide enough for a proper soccer field, but now that new light poles have been set much wider at Prather, there is plenty of room to put soccer field there. Now all they need are nets to keep the soccer balls out of right field and off Spurlock Rd, reset the crown of the field, put in some drainage, build a locker room, pour concrete for a walk-way to the stands...
  19. I think Kingwood Park is going to be a 4A. It's projected to hold 1,300 to 1,700 students. They are going to be a force in soccer, as well. Here's their link: [Hidden Content]
  20. That's awesome, guys! Please. Please. Please. Keep us updated when y'all play. Some of us aren't in the club soccer loop and have no idea when or where you play, and never hear the results. Good luck!
  21. Should be a good game tonight between Colorado and RSL since these two teams really hate each other. I don't have anyone from either team, though. The Balla's are lurking right now, but look for a major move in the next couple of weeks...I'm just not sure which direction that move will be.
  22. This will have a huge impact on soccer, too. The top UIL soccer programs in Texas are either predominatly hispanic or upper-middle class and white. I'm pretty sure most private schools cater to one of these categories. Kelly could definitely compete in soccer in 4A and some years in 5A. They would dominate 3A if and when there's a 3A division.
  23. Eventhough I dropped DeRo last week, I'm still tail grabbing yer arse, aries! 8) I'm only 13 back & in third place, and fourth place is a ways behind, so it looks like I'm on track to qualify for the Champions League next year. I'm going to the Dynamo game next weekend (the 19th) for the match against the Revs. Anyone else going and wanna tailgate?
  24. Are you counting the quarterback as a "RB" alceus?
