  1. UIL put the kibosh on this idea by making our local 4A district a 10 team league. That leaves time for ONE tournament and ONE open date. West Brook, for many years, has gone to the Governor's Cup in Georgetown - it doesn't get much better than that. Many local schools went to the Brenham 4A Showcase in previous years. This is a creme de la creme weekend for 4A's from all over the state. As far as playing in Houston, they won't play you unless you go there, and we do have a budget that we must stick to. And if you decide to go to a tournament in the Houston area, get ready for a ton of cards and many injuries. I could go on and on with horror stories about getting cusssed out in Spanish by a player with a hispanic official near by, getting physically abused by big 5A schools with more than twice our enrollment, playing in places where I feared for the safety of my players and fans... Anyway, as to the jist of your post, you could not be more SPOT ON! I'm not in the know directly in the local club scene, but I can tell you from my vantage point it seems that the numbers are down. I wish somehow, as you say, all of the local clubs could consolidate a Mid and South County team along with a Beaumont / Hardin / Orange County team that would compete at the highest level. And I don't know if there is a trainer shortage or if local kids are content with just having fun, but it seems as if too many of them are playing glorified Rec Soccer.
  2. I haven't gotten confirmation, but I heard Central lost 1-0. :'(
  3. Go US! Sunday at 11:00 on ESPN2. [Hidden Content]
  4. How can a coach repeatedly attempt to embarrass other programs by running the score up mercilessly, and then QUIT on her program in order to aviod a similar fate. ??? Invertibrate! > It would be different had she stepped down to coach another program or for personal/health reasons (And if this is the case I will sincerely apologize), but to QUIT out of fear of failure is unacctable for a coach and sets an absolutely poor example.
  5. Can I start a thread: "Who has bestest english teachers on thIEr team."?
  6. Hey jcb, if someone started a thread sarcastically titled "Kelly's Superstar" and went on to claim that Matt Kirby was overrated based on the one scrimmage and one game that he saw, do you think that you'd come to your teammate's defense? Your opinion is great, and I love the fact that you obviously have a knowledge of the game, and more importantly, I appreciate the fact that you attended a game in which you had no rooting interest, just there for the love of the game. And don't take this next question as me being a wisenheimer, I'd really like to know your opinion: If Matt had played the role of Brent last night, would he have done much more? If so, how so?
  7. WO-S had some stud players a few years back, too. Who was the guy that was the kicker for the football team, and was really good at soccer, too? I think he played with some attitude. Where did Jared Cooksey go to school? Lumberton? And Soccerfan, no love for the Heinze brothers?! I think Dave might cry his bald self to sleep tonight on his HUGE pillow with that enormous noggin.
  8. Hey Bullets, did Jeff Collins play in the goal for Silsbee. That kid was crazy and crazy good. And wasn't there a Mikey or Michael guy that graduated a few years back that never got tired. A few more Lumberton names: Heinz (sp?), D-Ray Richardson, Chris Owen, and Freeman from a few years ago. And going way back to the early 90's in Central history: Jonathan Mohammed, Wesley (can't think of his last name but was 6'4'' and played in the goal), Hung Nguyen.
  9. Where are you West Brook folks? On the way back from Baytown? Fussilo (sp?) was faster than small town gossip. I know there have been others. Jsmitty?...
  10. Shark, you wouldn't put Newton in goal for Nederland!?!?!
  11. Jimmy Stone was INCREDIBLE! That kid was quick! Where did he go on to play... Wake Forrest? Mark Lindorfer is an old schooler, but was pretty solid, and still is well into his 30's. Didn't Jonathan Lavoi graduate from Kelly, too? Bad knees, but great skill.
  12. All you youngsters do some research and all you old fogies dig deep into your memory. Who would you put on your team's All Time Starting XI? And if any you greenhorns put more than 3 of your current players on that team (for most programs) you obviously don't know your history. I want to see names like Derrick Knapp, Josh Davis, Chris Swanson, Brent Gallager, and any of the Morrels. Come on now, whatcha got?
  13. I gotta agree with Soccerfan. If you look over the last 15 years, Lumberton, West Brook, PNG, and Nederland could all make a case for being the top program in the area. Some teams have made deeper runs in the playoffs than others, but all have been consistently competetive each year. LCM has put together some good teams, too, but in my opinion, they would be considered behind these four when you consider the summative history of soccer in this area.

  15. Fernando hasn't gone into the archives of this site to comment on things that were posted WEEKS AGO. I am talking to you.
  16. Young man, if you put the same effort into your soccer game that you've put into this message board over the past week, I have no doubt that you'll be on the USMNT some day. Don't you have some homework you should be studying?
  17. Go to the last "new standings" thread that you started and add 3 points to the five teams that won on Tuesday the 6th. Oh, yea, add WO-S with 3 points to the list. I forgot them.
  18. There is no time for an extra game to determine the district champion. The tie-breaker system is: #1 Points taken head to head #2 Goal differential head to head #3 Coin flip
  19. Our district champion will wait on the runner up of Dist 17, right now Whitehouse, and third from 18, right now J'ville. Our second place will play the third place team from Dist 19, which right now is either Waller or New Caney, and then that winner will play the Dist 17 champ, Pine Tree as of now. Our third place will play the runner up from Dist 19, probably Willis, and then play the Dist 18 champ, which looks to be Nac. Here's the UIL link: [Hidden Content] You need Adobe. Look at "Alignments" and "Brackets".
  20. THANK YOU! How's about this for something else: Can you imagine both of them playing on the same team!?!? Now that would be fun to watch!
  21. Central - 39 Lumberton - 36 PN-G - 29 Nederland - 24 Vidor - 21 Silsbee - 19 LC-M - 14 Ozen - 7 HJ - 0
  22. Waldrup has the quickest excelleration from standing still with the ball to a full speed change of direction of anyone I've seen since Lance Watson of Nederland (and now the MLS). I haven't seen Kirby enough for me to say who I think is better, but then again, who really cares? Both of these young men are top notch soccer players with tons of class, and their best years of soccer are probably ahead of them. Maybe we can set up a Pay-Per-View cage match of FIFA 07 on the PS2 with these two so they can settle the score like real men once and for all!!!
  23. ??? Who is feeding you these stats? Bagdad Bob? Ozen has given up 39 goals in 12 games. I love your entusiasm, but don't get delusional. You guys are currently 7th out of 10 in goals against in district. Keep up the good work, though. I love to watch you guys hustle for 80 straight minutes every single game.
  24. For any ice-cream eaters who may be interested: Bmt Central - 36 points Lumberton - 33 PN-G - 26 Nederland - 24 Vidor - 18 Silsbee - 17 LC-M - 14 Ozen - 6 H-J - 0
