  1. Only if every other player in every other UIL event (not just sport) had to show one before a game or contest. Soccer gets scrutinized enough as it is by the suits in Austin. No other sport has suspension rules like soccer does for its yellow and red card count. Can you imagine the uproar from the basketball coaches if there was a proposal to suspend a player if he had fouled out of three contests throughout the season. ;D That's wrong! Just plain wrong! ;D
  2. The message boards and bloggers are hammering Bob Bradley for Davy's inclusion. I hope he goes out and scores one and sets up one and shuts everyone up.
  3. As a member of the education system that you are so unhappy about, I thought I'd help you out a little. First of all, if the idea of the message on these boards is received, spelling and grammar doesn't matter. Next, I thought it was ironic that you get on a message board talking about butchering the English language and when...
  4. If you're a fan of international philosophy, Monty Python, and soccer, then this is for you!
  5. I haven't gotten confirmation, but I was told this by a relative. The Brazil roster looks pretty salty: [Hidden Content] Edit: Just got confirmation from another reliable source. Set your DVR's! I hope he gets his first cap.
  6. The word on the street is that Davy got a call up and will be getting on a plane for Chicago after the Dynamo game for the Brazil game. Nothing official will be announced until after this weekends games, though.
  7. U-17's (shockingly) advance after losing thier first two games! [Hidden Content] They'll play Germany Thursday morning at 6:00 am our time on ESPNU, or you can follow the game as you drink your coffe ussoccer.com's MatchTracker.
  8. On the 3A level, definitely spread. Take your two best athletes and put them at QB and RB and then take your next fastest kid and try and isolate him. At that point you're just saying my athletes are better than your athletes. And if it's true, you'll win a lot of games.
  9. Have you seen Dayton's D? A nose, two 3's, weak end, strong end, and the backers stacked over the tackles, with a cover 3 or man-free look in the secondary... It's tough to prep for since no one else around here runs anything similar. The problem with the 46 and Double Eagle - which in some circles is a ghost 7 and 4i on the weak side with a strong shade and 4i on the strong side with a 7 or a 9 - is that there are waaaaay too many adjustments when you face a four-wide team.
  10. Are you talking about the "Bear Defense" that's usually called a "46"? Which is called a "46" because Buddy Ryan named it after Doug Plank who wore number 46 and was the strong safety on those Chicago Bears teams when Ryan was the DC and developed the defense? That "Bear D"? Thanks for enlightening this person from MC who marvels at your infinite wisdom about all things football. :
  11. Eventhough there was no punctuation at the end of the sentence, I thought this was the best choice, too.
  12. :-[ How does Bob Bradley expect to score when the only healthy striker he invites is Kamani Hill who received his first cap today. The US essentially ran a 4-6-0 with Dempsey and Landycakes supposedly playing up top - neither of which is comfortable there. Altidore had a game today so I suppose that was why he wasn't called up, and our other choices at forward...ugh! If you or anyone you know can score a goal, please contact Bob Bradley at the USMNT. Convey was an ash-tray on a motorcycle. I know he's been hurt, but friendlies like this in Europe are hardly the place for a rehab game. What kills me about this is Beasley had a really good first half at left-mid, so (obviously) Bradley moved him to right mid in the second half so Convey could play on the left, therefore negating any creativity or possession on the wings that we had in the first half. Also, Bradley took Pablo off for Convey so Feilhaber, who in the first half was playing a position he almost never plays - right mid, moved inside with Lil Bradley and then Donovan dropped back as a withdrawn striker for a 4-2-3-1. Which on paper looks great...if you have a lone striker who knows how to hold and stall a ball in traffic in the middle of the field or has blazing speed (see Thierry Henry for both). I love Deuce, but every time Dempsey received the ball it seemed like he was within 5 yards of the touch line looking as threatening as a kitten pawwing at a ball of yarn, really not his fault though. Bornstein started again. I... I just... Someone please explain this to me! Spector played only 25 minutes. Demerit fifteen. Pearce and Simik didn't even get a call! All four are based in Europe. You flew Bornstein across the Atlantic! You know what he can do (not much)! Venting aside. The US looked great at times in two thirds of the field. Sweden is without a doubt a quality squad. A 1-0 result in Sweden can be seen as a moral victory, and, man, do I love moral victories! Now we can start prepping for Brazil on the 9th at Soldier Field! :-\
  13. I'm pretty sure the strong safety and the Whip in A&M's 4-2-5 are pretty close to what some would call outside linebackers anyway. Without a doubt, though, the Ags could use this type of attitude to bring back the Wreckin Crew mystique that has been gone for a loooooooong time now. When I was in school we cheered louder when the defense came on the field than when the O did.
  14. Article, roster, and schedule for the US: [Hidden Content]
  15. The Semi-final between the Dynamo and Pachuca is on now. [Hidden Content]
  16. What about the two hits Nederland's Pillitere put on those two Broncos at Dayton a few years back, Penny? If I remember correctly, you turned a few heads on the home side when you yelled, "Good God! He killed him!" after reviewing one of the hits in the video camera.
  17. Edwin Van Der Sar was a brick - friggin - wall during penalties after a 1-1 regulation. Here's the highlights: [Hidden Content]=
  18. Yeah, I think this kid could have started for us this past year! Unless he flames out, I expect we'll be hearing a lot about Rhain Davis in about eight to ten years.
  19. [Hidden Content] It'll be interesting to see if the Mexicans decide to exchange jerseys and shake hands after the game since they've refused to do so for the past few years. Here's a little explanation about ardido from Oswaldo Sanchez as to why he took a swipe at EJ last February and why the Mexicans have behaved the way they have: "It gives me a lot of courage," he said, "because they make fun of us and enjoy it. It makes me angry that they make fun of me, it's true, and much more that they make fun of my country. Therefore I gave him a kick of ardido (rageful pride)." Ardido. They can call it what they want. They come off like petulant children and sore losers to me. And maybe it's a cultural thing, but I'll never understand urine bombs, chants of "Osama", or making disgusting claims about what you did to an opponent's mother or sister the night before as being "part of the game." No predictions from me about the outcome until the rosters are announced. It's a FIFA date so our EURO's should be available.
  20. I agree that Vidor lost a lot good players and great leaders. I have a feeling that they will have some guys step into those roles in the next few years, though. I think West Brook lost a lot good talent this year, too.
  21. The MLS clubs have done pretty well so far. I think you can watch most of the games here: [Hidden Content] . The Dynamo are on tonight against Club America.
  22. I set up a fantasy league on ESPN soccernet for anyone who wants to play. The league name is TexSoc and the password is roundrock. It's a bit different than the MLS one in that you have bench players and you can change your formation.
