  1. With all do respect to West Sabine...there is a reason the only loss Beckville has this year is when they had to send their JV to a district game in order to still get to play at Minute Maid. They are very, very good. They've beaten 4As and below, all comers. They've only scored less than double digits 6 times this year, and 3 of those were tournament games on a time limit. Are they beatable? Absolutely, any high school team is. But there might not be a more complete baseball team in 2A. And for whoever said West Sabine made some errors that allowed some runs. Well that is what happens when the ball is put in play just about every at bat. It takes a great defensive effort from all nine positions to beat a team like Beckville.

And if your "ace in the hole" is who I think it is...that makes you that much more prone to defensive mistakes when he pitches.

  2. Honestly this is why I think Carthage will win. They are a complete team. Every phase of their team is above average without a doubt. Offense can beat you on the ground or through the air. Defense is more than capable of getting stops. Have some really good players on that side of the ball. Special teams are solid. Coaching staff is very good, their record speaks for itself.

i just don't think a team that relies almost entirely on one/third of the phases can knock them off.

  3. Yeah, and Kilgore beat Carthage in district play and El Campo beat Kilgore and Silsbee beat El Campo.

Silsbee has a big and physical offensive line.

    I like Silsbee's chances

I'm not comparing scores and playing that game. I'm looking at what I saw with my own two eyes on consecutive weeks against the same opponent.

Carthage is better than CH. As a unit are better at WR. Are better on the offensive line. Are probably better at rb (considering that was Ch's JV running back for 8 games). Better and more experienced at QB. Silsbee is going to have their hands full with Carthage on offense.

on the other side of the ball. Carthage is definitely better than CH was on defense. I think Silsbee will have success, don't get me wrong. But it's gonna be a TALL task to out score Carthage.

  4. Seen both of these teams against chapel hill. Carthage absolutely dominated chapel hill. Silsbee got into a shootout with them a week later. Silsbee O is very very good, but Carthage d is very good as well. Their defensive line is quite impressive. Silsbee defense can't stop running water but are very opportunistic. Should be a good one, but I think Carthage takes it.

  5. Just got in from this one and boy oh boy was it crazy. From an unbiased point of view, I know silsbee thinks they let it get away, but Chapel Hill was 2-3 plays away from out scoring them. The first fumble happened as CH QB was fixing to start his throwing motion. Looked to me like they had a screen to the RB set up and it sure looked open from my vantage point.

In the 3rd qtr I think CH left atleast two TDs out there. First one came on a swing pass to the RB that the QB threw too low. He had 2 wrs in front of him blocking a safety and a corner and that was it. The 2nd came on the 2nd interception. The CH WR was open by 2-3 steps and the CH QB just under threw the post ball big time. If he threw it up like he did several other times instead of trying to thread it in he had him.

Also looked to me like the onside kick at 60-46 was mistakenly called. The refs missed that one.

Lots of penalties on both sides. Some ticky tack, some legit. But in the end it came down to Silsbee seized their opportunities to turn the tide and CH just got into too big of a hole. I enjoyed watching both sides empty their tanks and compete though and both communities should be very proud.

  6. yeah um thats not the CH squad that Png faced during the early part of the year, and I gotta smh at Henderson, a rematch with Newton id pick Newton to beat em.

Chapel Hill got a lot more healthy there for a stretch during district. But the top 3 RBs are out. King is fully healthy now though and he is a beast (#12). If they come ready to play, CH could be a load. Outplayed Kilgore for stretches, but 4 turnovers got them. Beat a good Henderson team that stomped Kilgore week 10. All depends on which team shows up.

  7. Update for 9-4A D1, which matches up with jasper, silsbee etc.

Carthage is 2 seed with win OR loss by 14 points or less to Chapel Hill

Brownsboro is 3 seed with chapel hill loss OR win AND chapel hill win by 14 or less

Chapel Hill is 2 seed with win AND Brownsboro loss

Chapel Hill must win by 15 or more IF brownsboro wins (very likely) to avoid being 4th. This will force a 3 way tie in which all 3 teams are also tied in points and goes to a coin flip.

  8. I think region 3 has a dang good shot to win both of them.

West Orange looks like they are a step ahead of everyone in region 3. Gilmer will not be as good as last year. those were hands down the 2 best teams last year easily.

Region 3 champ will hav earned it. Navasota, Carthage, El Campo all in top 10. Chapel Hill should be salty as well. Region 4 isn't very deep. Region 2 is Argyles to lose until someone beats them (kennedale). Region 1 is same story as always.

  9. I said credit to them for bouncing back. I am happy for Colmesneil. My comment was negative and for that I apologize. But those kinds of inconsistent play will be tough to overcome the further you go.

Why would anyone purposely lose game 2 to win Game 3 30 minutes later? That doesn't make a lot of since to me. Why not just go for the win in Game 2? I obviously do not think on the same level as you guys. Must be because I am from the backwoods. (Wrong). Or because I am some disgruntled parent. (Wrong). Never played the game. (Wrong).

3 strikes. You are out. Maybe you will get a hit next time around.

I'm just taking a stab in the dark here. But Colmesneil was down 8-0 in the first when it got postponed the first time. It just makes sense to when you are that far behind the 8 ball that you play hard, but don't waste all your options when you are guaranteed a third game.
