  1. the mustangs will be fine  as long as thay play smart football . back in 1963 stark high tigers had a QB names david foster, and a tight end called  R C these two guys made it look easy on friday nights, foster loved the short passing game , i do belive he made ALL AMERICAN that year i think.boy oh boy how football has changed  from back in the  60s

Had he not broke his arm before the semi's,I believe Orange would have won state. Not only did they have a heck of a passing game, they had a pretty good running game as well, plus a stout defense.

I'm not so sure the stangs will be fine and you can't possibly compare them with that team Orange had.Until they find a running game, which has not been there sense game one, there is reason for concern.Hypo can't take the whole load for the offense. We say it all the time about teams that are undefeated... they haven't played anyone yet, wait until they face a good team.Well we haven't played anyone either. The defense is going to carry this team in the playoffs.Defense puts you in the position to win games. If you can't move the ball ( La Vega anyone ) you ain't going nowhere. If ever the term ," one game at a time ",meant anything,it's now and starting with the first game.

  2. WOS87 has posted more stats than carter has pills about this years high scoring WOS offense compared to prior years. He also threw in for good measure point spreads of victories over opponents since Coach McCarty. They are off the chart.

The stangs are 3rd ranked in the state and undefeated. We score 50 and lose, and we are excited as heck to be going to Vidor.

Loosen up Stang fans, enjoy the ride.

Yes we have put up some big numbers but I just think they are deceiving.A lot of those numbers have come from special teams and the defense. We have been tested only once and that from a struggling Silsbee team which took us to overtime.Where was that high scoring offense then.Yes I'm concerned going into the playoffs. As for the # 3 ranking...I think it is a little high at this point in time.

Oh we will enjoy the ride but it has been kind of like the rodeo and we keep getting bucked off before the full eight seconds. ;D

Despite their district domination, I don’t know if the Mustangs are the well oiled machine their record represents.

WOS football has to have a solid rushing game to be successful in the playoffs, which can be said for just about every team.

The special teams and defense has been a big part of the Mustangs success.  Both have accounted for five touchdowns through six games which is phenomenal.

I'm with Gary on this.Though we have put up big numbers there is something about the offense that concerns me...Lack of sustained drives. If you live off big plays only you're going to get shut down sooner or later. We will find out in the playoffs.

  4. Teams that opt to play up are at the top end of the cut off numbers and would not be effected that much imo.WO-S is closer to 2A numbers than they are 4A. I think. They might have been able to do that the first two years but now the numbers are to far apart and they are still falling. They would compete for a while but would get worn down in the end for lack of numbers.

  5. How about the 10-7 game WOS won versus LaMarque in 2000 in the Dome?  Hope's shoulder was messed up so bad he could barely lift it.  Caught the ball on a 4th Down (I think) that was over his head and ran down the sideline with less than a minute to go.  Finally some revenge on LaMarque.

Also the Jasper vs WOS game in 1990.  I was 7 and still remember.  WOS won 7-6 and I think (help me here) there was a stop at the goal line that sealed the deal.

I remember that game with Jasper.Jasper was on the goal line with a first and ten with less than a mintue to go if i recall.I think it was a big play that got them there and the wo-s stands started emptying.Jasper coughed up the ball and wo-s recovered on the first play.If i recall right the rb just dropped the ball.

  6. ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NO hope thay stay in D2 thay lucked out last year and thay know it

I disagree Sam.They shut us down in the second half.Had nothing to do with being lucky.I will say,had it not been for a great defensive stand on numerous occasions in that second half LV could of put up a lot more points.I'm not sure but I think in the second half LV started all their possions on or close to wo-s 35 yrd line.Great defense to keep them out of the end zone as many times as they did.I want get in to why we couldn't move the ball...just that what we were trying to do they stop.

I'm with you though...would like to have another crack at them.

  7. If talent is the main reason a high school team wins, then places like Ozen and PA Memorial would never lose!  Don't take the coaches and structure of the programs for granted!!

The two go hand and hand = winners. But your right, talent alone want get you there and coaching without talent want either.

  8. i dont understand the kneel down.

Scooter:  There was only about 15 seconds left on the clock.  The qb was told to go up under the center and then spike the ball but the qb kneeled it instead.  Maybe he thought there was still a time out?  Anyway, the clock ticks off and the game ends tied 7-7.

but isnt it kinda the teams responsibility to let that QB know there is no timeouts left? that was weird. if he goes clock play they win on a FG. they were in position. maybe the team asked for a kneel down i dont know, kinda odd IMO.

I talked to a Silsbee coach after the game and they were telling him to spike it. He must have just gotten confused.

I think that is what happened. They must not have had time to go over this kind of sistuation with the qb before that last play. This is just a kid and he did his best.Lord...you have people in the pro's that make bonehead mistakes.

  9. WO-S did win Region 3 in 2005 and lost to the eventual state champions in the semi-finals.  I also don't believe WO-S has finished under their ranking except possibly in their first year in 3A.  You are also saying if you have never been to the semis or the finals you should not be ranked #1.  No hard feelings, but you talk like a man with a wooden neck.

You are right...except for 2005 we have been only a play away from advancing to the next round. That's what is so frustrating.

  10. IMO.It seems to be just not the win/loss thing.Heck,LCM has been loosing forever and they never had people leave the program. It seems attitudes, commitments and the like have gone south in the past few years. To quit just because your losing games will make that person a quitter in life imo.Not good.I don't know what is going on over at lcm so I can't justify it one way or the other...or if it is true.
